“I don’t use it, so I don’t see a point” is always such a winning statement. There are millions more iPhone users on Windows than on Macs. If you can’t see why this would be useful, I don’t know what to tell you.
Absolutely this. Never fails to amaze me how a lot of members either don't know or want to admit that the Windows user with an iPhone is by a significant margin more common than the Mac user with an iPhone.

Apple’s going to kill this quickly sooner or later. Even with limitation, Apple won’t like the fact that iMessage is being sent out from non-Apple device.
Apple will eventually be forced by the regulator to open up iMessage to other platforms, just as it’s being forced to allow installing apps from sources other than the App Store (the so-called ‘side loading’).

Ok, I am good, I have no use for this lol.

They made this super useless lol. This won't make me switch to Windows because I want to be able to send iMessages wirelessly in the middle of school.

Bring back Windows phone finally. Cross platform app development is on another level than back then.

“lack of support for group chats, photos, videos, and conversation history beyond the current chat session”

Yup it’s Microsoft…

No thanks I don’t want Windows to have access to all my text messages.
Limitations are totally due to Apple, so saying "yup it's Microsoft" is an obviously biased viewpoint.
It also doesn't have access to all of your text messages.

The big thing that is lacking support is the encryption. I am surprised Macrumors didn’t mention it.

Obviously they can’t support that.
It's not different than sending a text from your car's head unit via your iPhone.
The encryption is still there because your phone is what is sending the messages, not Windows.
From what I can see, message history isn't retained just like a car's system doesn't retain them either.

I don’t use a combo of Windows-based PC and an iPhone, so I struggle to see the point here. From what I can tell, I’d probably just use my iPhone for messages and calls as opposed to barely doing so on my PC.

I don't even have an iPhone- I use iPad with voip app and buds as my "phone."

However, I suspect that the bulk of my texting is done via Mac using a real keyboard. With people on either desktops or laptops all day for work, I bet I'm not the only one. That may be the driver here.

Pretty sure they won't - they are doing this basically via bluetooth API's that exist for things like car stereos and third party smart watches. The user approves notifications be sent to that device, and it allows replies from the device. But the limitations of no groups, no images/video are going to make this pretty useless, other than for connecting your phone and drafting quick replies with a keyboard.

Not much anyone can do to allay your lack of imagination, so c'est la vie.

I've been using this for years between my PC and my Samsung phone. Works incredibly well. I prefer typing on a real keyboard to texting on the phone, so just being able to read and respond to texts on my PC during the day is pretty nice.

Meh, to little to late. Now I have both Windows and Mac Mini. And the mini has become my general internet computer so this feature has become useless to me. Windows being my gaming only computer. I'm not gonna be texting anyone while I'm gaming lol. AT least not enough to feel the need to have it up on my Win PC screen.
Well since it's useless to you might as well not bother for the billions of users it would be useful for.

They can't kill it. Microsoft is doing this over Bluetooth just like non-CarPlay cars do.
Not sure if the iPhone app and connection is different, but on Android, the connection between the phone and the PC is done via WiFi, not Bluetooth.

EDIT: Looks like I stand corrected - it uses both.

LOL, Apple doesn't provide API and then it's somehow MS fault that they can't access the data... you can't argue with Apple fans :D
