The original RTM version is very out of date. Make sure to apply the latest Service Pack and updates.

The whole Office 2011 is "very out of date" at this point. It has been more than four years since it was released. Anyway, you should of course apply the latest Service Pack.

I was replying in the context of Yosemite support a few posts up. The RTM version doesn't support retina displays for example.

Anyone has a clue on when the public beta will go out? I read beginning of 2015 somewhere, perhaps as early as January.

Office for Windows and Mac will both debut in the second half of 2015. It will be interesting to see how they will compare to each other, and if Microsoft will keep the trend on making Office for Windows superior to anything else.

Are you sure MS will even have a public beta? I think its impossible to know when they'll do that, since they've been very quiet on the whole Office for Mac process. We're almost in 2015 and didn't they already publicly state it would be out in 2014 (I forget since its been so long now).

The pubic public tech preview is January

Did they state that? Granted, I haven't been keeping my eyes out for it (I now use Windows Office), but I don't recall seeing any announcement by MS. That's not to say they didn't make the announcement.

Microsoft announced, on its Office blog (when it released the new Outlook), that a public beta of Office for Mac will be released in the first half of 2015. Here is the link to the announcement:

New Update on Office for Mac 2015

Hey all
Microsoft just released a new version of Outlook for Mac for Office 365 users. As far as I can tell, it is similar to the Windows version just reorganized the controls. You can download it from your My Office page for Office 365. But it is way faster than 2011 and matches with Office 2013 for Windows's Outlook way better.
just by the way, I haven't seen anything about it in your posts yet.

It has been available for a while. ;)

Yes, I think it is kind of old news. Unless Microsoft has released a new upgrade to the already upgraded brand-new Outlook...

Meanwhile, I am waiting for the public preview. It will be interesting to see and I am looking forward to it.

They released an Outlook update at the end of Dec. Just bug fixes. I think Mr Trucker just missed the previous announcement last year.

How are you tracking when an update for outlook is posted? I did not get a notice. Even clicking on check for update did not show 15.4. Only happened to see it on this board.

I guess there are no notices at all. You should keep an eye at Microsoft's website.

I haven't seen any public beta announcement so far.

Even the beta version can't come soon enough. I am using Microsoft Word 2011 for an article and it is buggy. It crashes often; it has issues with characters appearing duplicated; and the spell check, grammar check and thesaurus in Portuguese do not work anymore.

I've been tasked with writing a report for work on how well Office 365 works on a Mac. Its not looking pretty so far, Microsoft need to pull their finger out and release the things they have been promising.

Lync crashes continuously, lets hope Skype for Business is better however I am betting that Microsoft will just release the same Lync client on Mac and just change the name.

The new Outlook although more stable than 2011 still seems to crash at least once a day. I've not been able to switch fully yet because we still have Exchange 2007 on premise which isn't support in the new version. We should be going up to 2013 in the next few weeks though so then I can ditch Outlook 2011.

There is still no Onedrive for Business for Mac client, despite them promising back in April last year it would be released by the end of the year. Currently third parties are doing a better job although then there is a cost involved when Microsoft should be providing it as part of Office 365.

The rest of the office suite although fairly functional is showing its age, they really need to have added some features and improved performance but I am guessing its going to be like Outlook pretty much the same old software but with a newer skin on top.

Sigh.

I gave up waiting. I stopped using Office 2011 altogether. For viewing and editing documents someone sent me I am now using Office 2013 on Parallels, and for my own documents, i started using Numbers and (to a lesser amount) Pages.

And I have to say: it's growing on me. I'm liking Numbers more and more each day.

Too bad, Microsoft...

I'm not sure why, but I'm using Word 2011 daily on my MBPro and find it outstandingly stable. I'll have crashes in Evernote, Chrome, even Safari, but Word 2011 keeps chugging along great.

I use OneDrive continually in the background and it's completely dependable.

I also use Outlook from Office 365 each day and it's equally stable. I'm sorry to hear there are others who don't find them working well.
