One thing that hasn't improved is that both the new Outlook and OneNote are slow to open. Compared almost any other app on my SSD, these take way to long to load for what they do.

I've been using the new Outlook for a week and I'm going to ditch it because it's sooo slow. Going back to using the windows version via Parallels in coherence mode which is much quicker.

I can't stand the way it groups all of my pop email accounts into one folder either. I know I can create a sub folder for each account and create a rule to move new emails to the correct one but why should I have to do this? Aren't mac users expected to have more than one email address?

So it seems like the new Outlook is still a crappy piece of software. I hope Outlook is updated when the new Office comes out next year, and that the rest of the suite is good.

Yes, I'm hoping that the reports that Outlook was rushed out because of the leaked screenshots and when the rest of the suite is released it will be updated.

It'll be updated... but don't expect much beyond what is already out. The team's focus is on Android at the moment. There's far more interest, desire, and need for Office for Android than OSX.

I see... That's very unfortunate. It seems like the Mac is the least interesting platform for Microsoft (except perhaps for Linux). Even Android gets more interest, and sales of Android tablets have historically been a disaster. At least I hope there is not another delay in the release of Office for Mac.

I don't use Outlook so much, and my expectations are more focused on Word, which I use every day. I make a lot of use of PowerPoint and Excel as well, and I want to see the improvements there.

However, the news are not encouraging. Depending on how the next Office for Mac performs, I may decide to change my laptop for one that runs Windows as its main operating system.

This is what I hope as well.

MS Office 2013 for Mac vs. MS Office for Windows running on a VM?

Which is better, MS Office 2013 for Mac vs. MS Office for Windows running on a VM such as Parallels or VM Fusion?

MS Office 2013 for Windows in a VM, not only has it got better functionality and is more stable but I find it actually runs faster than the Mac version.

The exception to this is Outlook. Windows Outlook doesn't play nicely if you have a retina and the new Mac Outlook is it's (very) poor cousin.

I use Windows Office 2013 in a vm and mac mail.

There is no Office 2013 for Mac, the latest version is 2011. Office 2013 is the latest Windows version. Microsoft is expected to release a new version of Office for both Windows and Mac in 2015.

Office 2013 for Windows is much superior to Office 2011 for Mac.

For documents or spreadsheets or presentations which are simple or at least not very complicated, Office 2011 is just fine and will do the job quite nicely. Not worth to run a virtual machine just for that.

For more complex work, I use Office 2013 for Windows on a virtual machine. I use Parallels and it runs fine on my retina MacBook Pro, although there are certainly some performance and battery life penalties.

You are, of course, correct. I read the question and just though he was referring to the new Outlook seeing as that is it is obviously intended to be like Outlook 2013 for Windows

Many have great interest in this topic. I watch this forum for updates etc.
The running commentary here has added absolutely nothing, the last several pages specifically.

The horse is quite dead, no reason to continue beating it. Unless of course you feel the need to continue pontificating.

There were a lot of rumors and some screenshots that leaked, and these were probably the updates.

When Microsoft released the new Outlook and a roadmap for the next Office version for Mac, all rumors went silent. It seems like Microsoft found a way to kill all the rumors and speculation.

We keep waiting for the next Office for Mac, but nothing else came up in the meantime. I just hope Microsoft releases the public beta early in 2015, so we can get a better taste of what is to come.

Yes, I know. You've been prattling on about this since 10 April.

Many would love to see a new version of Office for Mac that actually worked like its Windows' counterpart, but in 25 pages of posts, nothing material has been shed.

Office for Mac's revenue is less than a rounding error for MicrosoftS. Microsoft will do what they are going to do, when they want to.

Well, this is just an Internet forum, and I don't see how it would bring any significant news on the next version of Microsoft Office for Mac. This is not a place where Microsoft employees share their deepest secrets.

There were some interesting stuff, though. The screenshots of the next Microsoft Office were mentioned on this thread right after they leaked on a Chinese website, and before the U.S. websites noticed that. In addition, there were some insights and impressions from people who had access to beta versions of the next Office.

I don't see how we could get any more of it in this thread.

To those using Outlook 2011 (or later), does it work with outlook.com via MS Exchange server?

I can't get it to work. Keeps popping up messages regarding auto settings over and over til I end up terminating the program.

Well, it is working on both Outlook 2011 and the latest one. However, I still prefer to use the default Mail app in OS X to it. And I prefer to use the web-based Outlook than both Outlook and the Mail app. Given my current needs, and the clunkiness of Outlook for Mac, I see no reason why I should not use the web-based Outlook.

OK, how'd you get it to work?

I don't know. It just worked.

It's a strange thing that there are leaks of the Office 2016 beta for Windows on the web, but no leaks of the Mac version as far as I am aware of.

Could it just be a reflection that MS more widely tests the Windows version? More copies would mean more opportunities for leaks.

I believe its more along the lines that the Macbu group at MS, is a much smaller entity and do not have the same level of resources or budget to put the product through a more extensive testing regiment.

Been using the new Outlook 2015 (15?) for Mac for over a month now, with an Office 365 subscription. Clear improvement in both speed and reliability over its predecessor. Stability, however, remains an issue and the software feels beta-like (for example, it crashes 50% of the time when trying to quit).
