Ugh, back to terrible scrolling off page. Two seconds after I three-finger drag off screen, I end up advancing thousands of columns or rows. There is no middle ground. If I have to copy/paste/select cells that are offscreen, my only choice is to use keyboard controls.

Oh, and now macros crash Excel as well. I'm using Excel Preview 15.9.0 and Yosemite 10.10.3.

Outlook preview question. Can one increase/decrease the text size, not font size, in Outlook like you can in Word and Excel with use of the zoom slider bar?

Thanks,

DM

Changed my HDD to an SSD yesterday and it has made all the difference in my mid-2010 MBP.

The Office 2015/6 Preview apps open up in just about the same amount of time as Office 2011's do.

Can't recommend enough to do an upgrade of HDD to SSD for older MBPs.

Indeed. My 2008 white MacBook got a new life when I put it an addition 2 GB of RAM and an SSD instead of an HDD. It still works well, even though it can only run Lion (the new Office is out of question).

I need it for commercial use as I share pamphlets with PC users in a number of organisations. One thing that I would really like to see however is an development in the presentation of office, exclusively Excel. Scrolling from one place to another in Excel 2011 when working on large spreadsheets is painfully slow. So slow intact that I run it in a Windows VM instead where it performs fine. How can that be right? A VM performs quicker than a native app.

So, can any heavy office users tell me if the new suite for Mac appears to be able to replace the need for the Windows suite?

Are there still any critical omissions from the office suite? (Aside for applications like Access)

Depends. There's so any functions in office, depends on what you use. Outlook is still missing some core functionality imo.

I have a 2013 rMBP with Apple SSD. I still find the latest builds of Office 2016 far slower to load than the 2011 versions. OneNote as well takes an eternity to load.

I would think much of the sluggish findings are due in part to the debug coding involved to automatically (with permission) send to MS. This is the norm for beta software in my experience with larger companies testing. I do not inspect nor understand coding, but others smarter than I have suggested its presence in other software Ive tested with speed hits.

I think it correct to review/talk about what is functional or compare to what one wants to see in comparison to a Windows version or 2011 version. But I think speed is just going to be slower through the beta process.

So basically, how good will the new Office for Mac be compared to its Windows version?

I am currently on the fence as to whether to go with the new update once it is released, or run parallels on my Mac just for Windows Office?

In what ways?

The current office for Mac 2011 lags like crazy, even on my iMac. Just drag to resize is a pain, it's lacking in a fair amount of functionality, and regularly chokes when handling larger documents.

I am basically curious about parity in terms of features and performance.

Basically, the new Office for Mac (at least until now) is inferior to Office 2013 for Windows both in terms of features and performance. It seems to me that Office 2016 for Mac will be similar to Office 2011 in both features and performance, but with a revamped interface.

i think the thing mac office 2016 is missing is pivot graphs, and the keyboard shortcuts for menus. A lot of the alt + key shortcuts now work with office mac. From talking to one of the devs they will try to add the advances shortcuts too.

I do financial modelling on excel, so nothing TOO fancy or advanced. I'm very happy with this version (apart from the beta bugs and lags im sure will go away) because instead of now relying full time on parallels, i can now seamlessly work on files on work pc's and on osx on macbook. same shortcuts, same feel, i like that. basically for only the very very advanced things do i expect to load up parallels (probably never). So i'm happy that instead fo relying on parallels 80-90% of the time, i can cut that down to 0-5%. so for me its worth it.

I found out that removing Office completely following MS instructions screws system fonts, or at least the font on some web pages are not rendered properly (eg Amazon log-in page).

Ok guys, here we are with some more updates to Office 2016 version 15.10.

For some reason they do not show up using the autoupdate tool but here are links for the standalone updaters:

Thank you! I've been leaving feedback through the smiley face; Outlook has been completely unusable for me since the update from around mid-April. The other updates were sent through the update app, so I missed this.

Gaaaawd, it's so annoying that AutoUpdate doesn't download it, and what's worse is that I have no clue where to look to see if there is an updated release.
