I think it's funny how many bad reviews they will get because people didn't or don't know how to read descriptions. The thing I hate most about the App Store is that reviewers can say what ever they want about an app even if it's true, false, totally made up, ect. And the developer has no way to respond not even in email.

Ok , i want to scream it. I CANNOT WORK ON TABLET OFFICE SUIT. Its pain in the ass. They are only valuable as a readers. You cant work on this device.

I can't either, but as I wrote before, it's nice to have a quick edit capability and great viewing of office documents when on the go.. There are also other people that use a keyboard with their iPad. For these people Office is definitely more valuable, even if this is not as good as working on a real computer.

downloading is not the same as paying for it ...

I also downloaded it to give it a try, just to see what they came up with. But actually, you can't do anything with it without paying. Officially you can 'read' documents, but only if you have the microsoft drive (or however they call it) - there are no other ways of getting documents in there. I know I can only read, but sort of was hoping to have some decent ways of getting documents in there to read.

So yes, I downloaded, found out that not usable (even for a quick try out) and deleted.

To bad they don't have a measure for the most deleted app .....

Actually, you can manually add documents to the various Office apps via iTunes (Plug your iPad into a computer and select the iPad within iTunes and go to the Apps tab). You can still only view them without a subscription and viewing a document doesn't reveal much of the interface...

I gladly pay the $99 a year for Microsoft Office. 5 licenses... All being used.

Eventhough iWorks is free... Well... Free is good if Keynote, Pages and Numbers where any good. But they are a joke and almost absolutly useless

Sooooo MS Office it is...

People just do not get it. Everyone at work gets an Office 360 account, Basically this just killed whatever chance iWorks had in enterprise.

iWorks never had a chance, it is just too limited. Doesn't help that Apple are too secretive and don't offer a native windows version. There's more chance of Office being around in 10 years than iWorks.

Also, there's the issue of iCloud - it is aimed at the consumer not at the enterprise - again, iCloud has too limited functionality.

5 people?

I'm not seeing that.

And while I'm sure I could make it work, do I want those 5 people seeing my documents in my OneDrive space?

UPDATE: And here it is at Microsoft, looks like it's got decent management too. Seach the page for "household". http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/microsoft-office-for-home-and-school-faq-FX102926087.aspx

I am seeing that. I helped a client set up a new Office 365 subscription a few weeks ago. Had to set up a Microsoft account for him to get the subscription. Once we got the subscription going we had to setup another Microsoft account for his wife to set it up on her Mac.

She gets her own OneDrive space and unique login. That 20GB of OneDrive space is really 100GB spread over 5 users. Now maybe she could have just installed using his credentials, but I wanted to do it in a way that made more sense.

I agree. I think the Surface Pro 2 is an excellent product and it should get even better for version 3. Someone has to come up with a 256GB SSD tablet or ultrabook and have it come in at $899.00. Microsoft could do this with the Surface Pro and include the type cover.

I still think the one thing it needs the most is a good touch interface. Something that offers the power of the desktop, and the ease of use of the iPad.

Metro comes close, but...no apps. :\

Been there, done that. I have a MacBook Air for that.

Well, I like it.

Well, I like it.

So it's good that we have choices. There is something out there for everyone.

No one wants this.
The App store lies!

Don't underestimate Apple customers. There are people buying year old plastic iphone's over the premium model that's faster and has better build quality for a measly $100 difference. The Apple fan base has plenty of suckers.

As long as you can get Angry Birds and Doc McStuffins Paint and Play, what more could you want?

Would you mind writing these tidbits down. Heaven forbid I get into a situation where I need to buy something and I don't follow the "cdmoore guide to buying the right thing". I mean, jesus, how have I made it to 25!? I've bought all kinds of things - what if I was wrong? Of course, my opinions and thoughts on the matter couldn't have been right....or could they?

I don't know, I need your guidance. You can go ahead and shoot that guide along to givemeadamnbreak@ridiculous.com.

I browsed through and was surprised to see no one mentioned you can get it for FREE for 1 year today if you are one of the first 50 people into a Microsoft store.

Luckily happened to have one 10 yards from my office elevator and so I waltzed in after lunch even mind you and got my free 1 year card.

They make you take a picture with your iPad and post that pic with a scripted text ad to one of your social accounts and then bob's your uncle, walk out with a free 1 year subscription.

It's a full subscription it appears with 5 licenses, 20gb storage, etc.

Well clearly what worked for your company would work for every company. And any company that doesn't do exactly what yours did is - what - incompetent. Personally - I think I would prefer to not do business with you (specifically) if that's what you think of any/every other company that does things differently.

I doubt the legitimacy of his post. If a company is really turning down proposals or projects because another company sends them on a format they dislike because it is Microsoft, they deserve to fail. To miss out on potential profit because you are a software snob isn't really a trait that will lead a company to success.

It is like that article of macrumours where some hipster IT director from some tiny company said they only accept documents from Quip or something. When you are going to make money you don't tell your client that you need them to re send files in some obscure mobile os document suite.

Subscriptions?

They really are pushing away from you buying software and keeping it to use for years. They want to move you to the payment model of opening that wallet monthly and forking out the cash to keep using their software.

Still running some office 2003 systems here and they are working just fine. Wont be able to do that much longer with the way this is headed.

You are so correct. It becomes harder to justify the costs for software upgrades because so many people are not willing to pay big buck to get so few new or improved features. Software companies need to have a business model that produces income to survive. The pay as you go leasing model may work well for them, but time will tell. I know I will never buy a Photoshop upgrade due to the value/cost ratio being so bad for how much I actually use it. Microsoft users will each need to determine if the cost/value ratio works favorably for them. Power users will gladly pay the $99 per year, and the others will stick with older versions of MSO or be happy using Apple's products. We all now have viable choices, which is great for everyone.

It's also near the top of the grossing charts which means people are subscribing/paying

And at the low, low price of $99/year in an App Store that has been pushing prices down, no wonder it's near the top of the Top Grossing chart. Even one purchase is enough to offset tens of (many, not all) other apps. :)

I thought they would let you BUY them with the ability to edit and create documents. Not some lame ass subscription. #@$! you Microsoft. I am not paying you any yearly fee to use Office (even tough you keep trying to make it happen)! If people are smart, they will shun this subscription B.S. until MS lets people purchase Office for iPad the same as the desktop version. Make "Office 365" fail!

In the UK, most university students get Office 365 subscription for free for the duration of their course which is great.

Other than that, would I pay for Office 365? Heck no.

Hey, I see it as a win-win for Apple. All the 'but this has office' crap is all but moot now, and Apple takes a cut of the subscriptions. :apple:

No, judging by your other posts, you just hate his company because they dumped Microsoft. So did mine. They decided that Office was outdated.

I never pay attention to ratings unless the reviewers complain about something like "hidden IAPs". Hopefully, others don't either. There are always morons rating these things. I saw 1 star reviews on a Bluetooth walkie-talkie saying "it only supports Bluetooth, not wifi". And it was a pretty good app.

I am kind of confused. I downloaded it on my iphone and it seems to allow me to create documents and excels. Is the pay subscription only for iPads?

So you just have a free Drive account, and it's giving you full functionality? If so, I might clear up some space and grab it before they fix it just in case I need it some day. EDIT: You mean MS Office Mobile, right?
