Native Onedrive was released weeks ago. Just download it direct from Microsoft. Onedrive updates itself automatically so you won't have to worry about the standalone Microsoft updater either.
Oh, that's cool, do I have to set it all up and resync everything again or does it continue using the existing onedrive folders?

Yes, just replace the App Store version with the directly downloaded version.
FWIW I was unable too do this. When launching the new version I got a message about there already being a OneDrive account with a vague warning and a link to a Microsoft page with troubleshooting tips for Windows...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think you need to make sure to log out and disconnect the account first before replacing it with the AS Version. I ended up having to use TrashMe to totally remove OneDrive, then reboot, then install the AS Version, reboot again to confirm all is well. Since, I've rarely seen the OneDrive process listed when checking iStat Menus, and I check regularly..

After I installed the update it deleted all 250GB of my local files and made them "online only" to save local space. A decision Microsoft decided to make for me which I wasn't happy about. So after the update I had to download 250GB of my data to bring it back local.

I presume later updates have stopped doing this. If not, then beware.

That used to give me the absolute rage.

OD4B: HEY! We detected a problem? Can we fix it?
Me: Sure!
OD4B: GREAT! *proceeds to delete and download 4TB plus of data*.

Another Mac App Store update, 22.077.0410, and STILL Intel-only.
Yeah, this just came through for me now since I still haven't got round to switching to the standalone build, how it's taking them so long to release this is genuinely ridiculous, I understand why they might choose to roll it out over a few weeks, but this is absolutely ridiculous now

I'm having major issues getting OneDrive working. I had it installed initially via the App Store, but moved to the direct install from Microsoft as to get the Apple Silicon version. Now I'm trying to go back to the App Store version and it's not letting me pick my OneDrive folder, telling me an account is already linked, and continues to say this even after choosing the Unlink Account option and using TrashMe to remove the app entirely and restarting. Sooooo, now I just can't use OneDrive at all other than on the Web.

::EDIT::
I was able to get the direct install working again, but not the App Store version. At least it's the Universal version

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Microsoft’s stance is that the ‘AppStore’ and ‘downloaded from Microsoft’ versions are the same for Office apps, which is, clearly, not the case (for OneDrive anyway). I wonder what differences or delayed features there might be in Word/Excel/PowerPoint etc.

Has anybody noticed anything like this for other MS apps?

There's sandboxing to consider with the App Store versions. I don't use the App Store versions of Office.
All Office for Mac apps (that is Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote) are sandboxed, including the direct-from-Microsoft versions. The apps are bit-for-bit identical, the only difference is how you acquire, update, and licence them.

Microsoft has repeatedly confirmed and explained this:

This does not necessarily apply to the OneDrive app, mind you.

Ah ok. We stopped using the App Store versions as we seemed to have way more calls generated by machines that have had them deployed via that method - go figure. Not a huge Mac estate (maybe <100 out of 4k+ machines) so could have been something else.

Is the Microsoft installer app apple silicon compatible?

installs just fine, and the apps it installs appear to be Apple Silicon native.

Hold on - Apple Silicon Teams? I had no idea that it had been updated. The Intel version is a total pig!
The Apple Silicon version of Teams is an early pre-beta version. The release versions are still not native.

so... I installed the apple silicon version, deleted and set up my accounts, and now the finder is telling me that onedrive has encountered an unexpected error... great, now I can't use it at all
edit: seems like I managed to get it working, this hassle was originally the reason I decided not to bother switching to the standalone build but ms have pushed it too far now
edit 2: my school onedrive account is working fine but my personal one now shows only the documents folder, nothing else
edit 3: as with every problem, restarting the computer fixed it, everything is set up again now

For those that have installed the standalone version, are you having any issues? I'm about to bite the bullet and switch since the App Store version doesn't seem to be updating anytime soon. The AS version has been out for >2 months now with no sight of it on the App Store.

No complaints on my end :)

You need to use trashme or something similar to totally remove the app store version, before I did that I had issues
