Those stores are freaking stupid! MS licenses off their OS to anybody with a pulse. They just sit back and wait for the royalties to come in. So what is up with an MS store? Nothing IMHO.It looks like a best buy.
Will MS service the pcs they sell? I doubt it. Thereon lies a big flaw, again, IMHO. If MS is selling the hardware powered by their OS then they should, they better, know how to diagnose them pcs. Apple does with their computers. HELLO!!!!!
Anyway, did anyone see the latest I'm a pc ad where that pretty as hell India tech lady is in her back room surrounded by freaking identical cpus stacked like the dead from the floor to the ceiling? Ha! Pcs ain't nothing but problems. At least her job security has been given a thumbs up.

JOKE! The employees are cheering, "WOOHOO, we have crappy products and we are so glad that people are still willing to use them!"

Eheh. The video is really.... i don't know how to describe this pathetic rip off. Anyway if people are just so retarded to keep buying a pc, good for M$, easy money for them.

Since when was that Apple's layout?

In my town there are Sony, O2, and various other stores with similar layouts that offer electrical products.

the reason they opened a retail store on the same day as launch of windows 7 is because there going to have to have a designated place to downgrade everyones computer to xp after they realize it sucks.

and they made it look exactly like an apple store (infinite possibilities? really? with he apps plying and ****?) because they didn't have any ideas of there own so they made it so while there downgrading peoples computers, it'll remind them of the apple store so they will go buy on of those where they really don't need a store, cause there computers work.

You clearly haven't read the reviews of Windows 7, which are mostly full of praise. Boots faster/shuts down faster than XP, and a lot of other operations are of course faster.. they removed some of the annoyingness of vista's UAC, etc etc.

Sounds like they've got some nice ideas in their stores, like this one...

http://www.destructoid.com/ms-does-on-demand-software-printing-at-retail-152772.phtml

We had stores offering this in the UK a few years ago for about 10-25% discount from the RRP. Very few Mac titles, though. I think they were run by Softwareparadise. I bought a copy of Sage Accounts in the early noughties from the branch in the Harlequin Centre in Watford. It took 30 minutes or so after payment. From a distance, it looked just like the retail version but in your hand it had the look of a decent pirate copy (although totally licensed and legit). I suppose inkjet printing has come on leaps and bounds since. I'll have to dig out that disk and see if it is still readable today.

Dumb and Dumber

That has to be lamest thing on YouTube...

I'd go jobless before working there.

Here in Taipei just passed a Windows 7 street concert launch thingy. W7 bus, W7 tent, W7 outdoor stage with band and TV, all in front of big building converted into a W7 billboard.

What a waste of space and time....

That video is, well, disturbing.

But hey, it's totally new and innovative to have a store like this, so they must all be incredibly excited to be part of something so groundbreaking.

I like it

I think this is a good thing. My son will enjoy playing the new XBox games. And it's always good to have a place to go surf the web in a mall while killing time as my girlfriend goes shopping. I'm running XP on my Parallels virtual machine, so I guess I'm a bit of a MS user too. If the products fail to have the necessary lust factor to generate the buzz of a young cool clientele, that's Microsoft's problem, not mine.

Those video walls would give me a headache within 5 minutes! If you're walking a round a store with your peripheral vision being constantly assaulted by 24fps of plasma flicker I think it's going to be a bit of a distraction.

"Look at this lovely <insert manufacturer name here> Windows laptop and the lovely range of colours it comes in."

"Sorry Sir - this one's black, and YOU are having a seizure..."

Um, Everyone in the store making it looked packed it a store clerk and a couple of M$ suits - seriously, count the colored shirts and try to count how many non-employees there actually are.

Loud Noises!!!!!

No... Screams! It is close to Halloween after all and everyone deserves a good scare!

Same minimalist design as the Apple store, same wooden tables as the Apple store, same bold color t-shirts and cheering as the Apple Grand Store opening, followed my MS OS similarities to Mac OS X, Zune mp3 player and The Social Marketplace similarities to iPod, iTunes and the ITMS, and you know they are working on a MS version of iPhone out there somewhere despite MS denials...

The biggest Apple Fanbois out there is Microsoft!

Those who can, innovate. Those who can't imitate!

hahah I come back and this thread is still alive!

Anyways I was talking with my wife about this. She doesn't know a whole lot about computers but she is learning. So I told her about this. She thought it was amusing. She sees the irony in it, they're a computer software company.. So why build a store to peddle their software? She also said they're doing this to try and win people back from Apple.

I only started using Macs about 2 months ago. Like a week ago she's like, "I never realized it, but if you look on commercials and tv programs, but macs are everywhere!" I think Microsoft needs to do some more interesting advertising instead of merely opening up a store.

Although as an avid Xbox gamer, It will be awesome to see if they carry a buncha games!

Backups aren't going to help. I don't see a reason for you to reply if you're not going to read my posts with the entire story.

I don't get it.

I don't get your ranting about blowing off Snow Leopard because you don't have column view in spotlight ? You claim all browsers are crashing when you use the "Save as" command ? I tried for 20 minutes on Firefox and Safari, can't make it crash. Not saying yours isn't, just saying it's obviously not effecting everyone. If you really have good knowledge on how to use OS-X you wouldn't be letting these minor issues be such a burden to you.

The large space is to accomodate that obese woman in the green t-shirt. How the F can you employ someone like that to frontline your very first concept store??

This is just sad

this video REEKS of corporate Bull*****tery. These poor saps are just happy to have a job in this recession. I pity them. They would probably do headspins for a paycheck.

I guess Microsoft believes that it can use a variant on its original formula for success (you know, copying it's UI from Mac OS x).

:apple: FTW

Only if they sell the games with a Microsoft discount. :-D

lucky MS employees buy their games for $10 a pop on the MS campus.

you do realize that mac was the one of the first tech companies to actually hire people to work in hollywood and get their products placed in tv shows/movies right? its something they do rigorously.
