I walked in there yesterday.

With my iPhone playing music
and my 17 inch mac book pro
and a fake genius tag
and a 'God uses a Mac' t-shirt
My car? Its a big black mercedes with a apple logo on the side.
Parked outside the freakin microsoft store.
The reason? I was bringing my Toshibia in and tell them that Im switching to mac, so I need the hard drive coppied.

One of the overweight employes came over with her red face
Just about slapped me..

so I was curious if steve ballmer was going to jump all over the NBC set when he was introducing windows so I watched this clip.

i couldnt tell if this was a PowerBook that NBC used to display the Windows machine? What do you think?

if you don't know what I am talking about with steve ballmer acting like an idiot - check it out.

Its pretty obvious, its not a powerbook what so ever.

Its the older generation of mac book pros.

Powerbooks cant run Windows 7 as they have a G4 chip.

Are you still using a 50 year old powerbook?

this is another reason why i don't like microsoft. just totally copying someone else

Oh please. Like Apple invented retailing. What was Apple doing when they poached retail executives from The Gap and Target back in 2001? Not to mention recruiting employees from Gateway's retail operations.

That's just embarrassing.

Plus examples like hiring away Motorola's head of European, African and Middle East sales to run iPhone overseas sales.

Companies don't do things. Individuals do, and their experience often comes from elsewhere. They also tend to repeat themselves.

Microsoft R&D meeting...next Macworld! Just stay two years behind them.
Maybe they'll buy Palm now lol.

Let's bring in those Pc's with viruses and see what they do at the "bar?'

I know-call tech support in India. Here, get on this phone, they'll talk you through it.

Yep, it's a first generation MacBookPro.

You are right, sir. What do you think chances are that Balmer did not even recognize it (iconic as it is...) as a Mac? What do you think chances are that Steve jobs would walk onto a set and NOT notice that one of the exemplars he was standing by was a windows PC?

What an amazing PR department screw up.

By the way, I could not believe that Matt Lauer kept bringing up Apple, at least three times, to confront Balmer. Pretty bad, Mr. Lauer. Pretty bad.

The thing is, only tech bloggers and apple fanboys actually give a **** about this. The average user doesn't care/won't notice so that isn't exactly a PR screw up.

Yes, but HOPEFULLY Balmer is not an average user...

Even worse, the PR people that put together that appearance should be shot. That was a major error. I used to work in corporate marketing, so I have some experience from whence to discuss this.

Well aren't you badass.

The funny thing is that this is likely to actually help Apple Stores sell more computers.

hummmmm, no

so basically microsoft opened another best buy, with microsoft as the name of the store, I could see a purpose for it, if they actually made their own computers.

lol'd

It's along the same lines as "hey, this new clothing store will obviously help the other clothing stores sell more."

Yes, curious how presence of Circuit City stores actually boosted sales at nearby Best Buy Stores, or that proximity of Best Buy Stores actually increases sales at Ultimate Electronics.

Here's a clue for the retail illiterate in this thread. More competition often means more business for everyone as there is more advertising, more foot traffic, and more comparison shopping taking place.

Stay Classy Microsoft

Imitation is the sincerest form of desperation... er... I mean flattery.

Stay classy and current Microsoft. Don't let anyone tell you that stealing 8-year-old ideas from Apple is lame.

Kind of like how other houses influence the property value of the neighborhood. I think this will lower property value of the `hood.
Soon msoft fanboys packing heat will be runnin' drive-bys on the apple stores!
We're going to have to fight back and defend ourselves!

Anyone ever done a Poll here to determine the average age of members?

I am a fan of Apple...but this thread sounds like a middle school pissing match... :)

As a brand executive I would envy MS's market share and power...but I also would envy the Apple's "fanboy" instensity (to use your terminology). Reminds me of Harley-Davidson, Ford pick-ups, Airstream trailers, etc...Apple is truly one of the strongest brand images in the world.

Well...I'll let you all go back to arguing whose ???? is bigger...get your mind out of the gutter...I mean CPU! Tom

So? Poaching employees isnt rare.

The warehouse here is the worst offender. Plus people here can take another company to the tribunal if someone copies their store 'character'.
