If Jobs doesn't buy Disney with Apple.

And then buy XM Radio and Sirius and use it to create a MacDis phoneTV internet service that can undercut and out preform all other networks -- CONVERGENCE at last.

¡¡¡ HE IS OUT OF HIS MIND !!!

This implies that tomorrow at least a portable MacTablet will be announced, the merger could happen anytime after that and be announced after the fact. The MacTable will have unannounced wireless networking capabilities and a killer interface that will blow MS's weak incantations into the WEEDs !!!!!!

Remember Jobs said the Apple phones were just for experimentation and practice !??!?!?!?

And now you know why performance/power consumption and being able to deliver in volume is soo important !!!

This is a huge opportunity because MS will just help generate more buzzxs.

The resulting AppleDIS would be a VERY BIG COMPANY, look out MS you loose !!!

Of course the stock of AppleDIS would appreciate very rapidly !!!

Tablets themselves are pretty lousy for every day use IMHO, unless you have a niche need for them like if your standing up all day. It feels like a fad.

Are people really too lazy to turn the entire laptop 20° to the left? And looking at a screen flat on the table is super unergenomic.

I have yet to see anybody using their tablets as actual tablets (as in, standing up). In fact, I still hardly see any tablets even on campus (where there are hundreds of laptops all over the place).

Tablets are really, flexible input devices, although the existing tablets don't yet demonstrate this.

Phones will become this, and make the point !!!

Flexible displays will be implemented via projection screen tech that is about 1" square, the screens will unfold and unroll and have adjustable sizes.

They will stand up like a book holder.

The best type of flexible input will eventually be laser tracked hand gestures out way from the screen, touching won't be required, and the inputs will probably be simulated to be behind the use interface so that the hand movements can be mirrored, expanded, and the interface can be seen most easily -- hand gestures may also be behind the device or in front of the screen on a table, laser tracked so no visible hardware.

The Precog stuff only applies to very large screens.

You've never been in a class where you had to draw out structures or something that couldn't be typed out? Tablet PCs would be in high demand right now if they weren't so freaking expensive. In college, they are useful beyound the normal laptop. :) I've been wanting one, but $2,000 is not what I want to spend on one with decent specs. Also, I want a smaller screen than current companies have to offer.

when (in how many hours from now) will the apple presentation of the "fun" products be? Have to get popcorn and a beamer to read the tickers. I'm in western european time zone if you wanna do the math but number of hours from now on are fine.

And wouldn't it be nice to use the full screen iPod as a phone? I'd buy it immediately... think of it: finally only one device in your pocked, not your pockets filled with various thingies.

It looks like MSFT wants to manufacture this themselves - taking Job's advice.

Running a 90mm efficeon processor - fast and cool. Sweet!

Apple will have a version of this out very shortly I imagine. It'll be better looking, but maybe not as fast...intel chips are too hot.

They will sell a lot of these babies if the price is 999 or less.

Hence the word "niche" in my original post.

I would like to see a folding display though. That would be hot.

People don't want Windows on a tablet. So I hope Microsoft make this. It's going to be a 'blue screen of death' heap of junk.

This could end up being quite relevant to Apple; we'll see on Tuesday. Meantime, here's a direct link to the ad:

http://creativecoremedia.com/mso.swf

lol, the computer she's working on is a Mac :p

The device itself clearly runs XP or Vista but its a darn big, not really ugly but to big and clunky to do the things in that movie and it aint gone be cheap either. BZZZZT bad move MS, next plz.

I think the market has spoken on that one.

It sure has ;) The fact that more and more models come out every year does say something. ;) They just need to lay down a budget tablet to boost sales even more :D

Does anybody care about Tablets?

I don't think Apple would have a small media event for the introduction of a big new line of hardware like a tablet. I think the best bet for tomorrow is more along the lines of ipod accessories or something. Why MS moved their event to Tuesday, as well, is still a mystery.

The more important question is: Is anybody really clamoring for some sort of tablet pc? It would be nice to have some sort of new innovation in hardware, but I don't believe that these tablet ideas are going to lift off the way the iPod did. Perhaps it's my lack of vision on this case, and I hope someone can tell me why I'm wrong, but who cares about tablets.

From my experience of what most people want in a computer:

Pentium 4 comes first for 75% of people then comes windows xp

My guess is that 90% of people dont know any better then intel/windows so. I guess it must be the same thing for tablets PCs (besides, all the tablet pc ive seen run windows)

Origami Website

I can't help but noticing that Microsoft's Origami Project website bares an uncanny likeness to the default appearance of OSX. I suspect that this isn't all that Microsoft is trying to copy.

Maybe imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I have a HP TC1100 tablet PC for almost a year and I have to say it the best thing since slice bread. I use it for maya and sketching and it works awesome. I demo it to co workers and they too bought one for themselves. I think it is picking up steam...I'm starting to hear more and more people at CG forum buying tablet PC. I will probably buy another one when it's time to replace my current one.

The problem for their lack of success is they are marketed for business people only and not artist...typical PC market! They expect business people to use pen as its main input devise, but the problem is that the program has to learn the way the users writes and that can take time...time business people don't have. Even I don't have time for the program to learn my way of writing...I can manage quick notes, but I rather use a keyboard for long letters. But my co worker swears by the pen...he uses nothing else, and he doesn't even bring the keyboard anymore. Another issue is the way retailer display tablets PC...rather than laying them out flat like the way tablet pc are suppose to look, they have them opened and looking like a typical laptop with a higher price. When I was looking for a tablet, I went to an electronic store, took one the tablet, laid flat and started doodling and all the sudden people around started looking over my shoulder wondering what kind of gadget I was playing with...line of people wanted to try it out after me. I came back the following week and those salesmen opened it up again...looking like a typical laptop with higher price.

Oooh, Ooh ...

It definitely a multimedia serving somethin or rather, cellphone++ !!!

Apple just bought a HUGE data center !!!

"Apple Computer pays $45M-$50M for data center in Newark"
http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2006/02/27/story5.html
"Data centers generally house computing, data-storage and networking equipment assisting in Web-based services and transactions. The most elaborate "Tier IV" centers such as the Newark facility have the highest levels of redundancy and security, and can cost upwards of $1,200 per square foot to erect and equip. Cupertino-based Apple, which declined to discuss its facilities, is thought to have paid in the vicinity of $450 per foot."

AND tons more office space ...
"Apple, with Mr. von Thaden's assistance, also just signed deals for the entire 116,830-square-foot office complex at 10400-10450 Ridgeview Ct. in Cupertino. This includes about 56,315 square feet leased directly from property owner Grosvenor International (represented by Brad Martin and Rich Hardy of Cushman & Wakefield) and 60,515 subleased from IBM (represented by CBRE's Frank Friedrich, Don Lonsinger and Doug Beck)."

REAL NICE video mockup but the name is dumb, how about iPod Moxi instead.

Anyone notice in the Oragami video that right as the girl is adjusting the amplifier (after she tunes the guitars pitch) there is a mac mini on the floor?

Really funny =)
