I don't think Apple would have a small media event for the introduction of a big new line of hardware like a tablet.
I disagree. The original iPod was released at the same Apple Town Hall about five years ago.

If Microsoft is releasing a modern-day version of the Newton, and Apple doesn’t do the same (before), the possibility of Apple ever releasing a new Newton like product that will be as strong as the iPod is low. Actually, if the product rumors are true, M$ stands to make a lot of money and to dominate the market, as I know a cost effective trans PDA-laptop computer is something that the market can bare.

Heck, I'm intersited.

As long as it has a decent screen that will allow me to draw my cartoons on i dont care, if Microsoft do it, and make it affordable and Apple dont bother, I dont care If I work for them Microsoft will have my money.

You guys failed to notice that the invitation is extremely limited, and annalists are invited.

This means its mostly about a financial move, something like buying Disney !!!

This thing is truly hilarious. Looks like an old tv set. Far too big to be really appealing to someone who already lugs around a 12" or smaller laptop... and the design? Looks like it's encased in formica.

If the origami is as clunky as it looks in the ad, Apple should have a great opportunity to really blow it away with a competing product.

Repeat after me:

Fun. New. Products.

;)

Now maybe the data center purchase has something to do with the products, but I sincerely doubt that a Disney merger is the highlight. (more likley that they're buying Akamai, and will offer full length movies for download on iTMS, for example).

lol, the computer she's working on is a Mac

I'm not so sure, that's just protools, and they just gave the windoze version the same look as the mac.

That ad is the lamest thing ever, they couldn't figure out any real uses for this piece of junk.

Seriously, they're showing someone taking a pix with a camera phone...then using the tablet to send the picture to someone??? THE PHONE ALREADY DOES THAT. By itself. And you can easily add text messages. It just looks like a bigger, heavier, more expensive palmpilot.

ok i know watched the video all the way through, I am VERY impress, did I really just say that? Oh Steve dont let us down just do it better.

The FUN part almost requires Disney !!!

Akamai WHAT A WASTE !! They would NOT NEED the media center if they bought Akamai would they -- HA, HA, HA !

Apple is in the media business, NOT server hosting

Disney has cell phone, you didn't know that because the business never took off, now if Apple upgraded them then that would be something.

Now WHY did Pixar go too cheap, WHY did Jobs positions himself in Disney as the CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD !!!

Just because YOU don't like Disney doesn't mean that they can't be steered into being worth a LOT more then they are ...

... Oh YAH, Apple has a market cap of 60 bill, Disney 12 !!!

The LAST MacRumors page 1 posting was posted after I posted a comment in this forum about the purchase of the data center.

The PREVIOUS MacRumors page 1 posting was after I posted a comment in this forum about the Origami Project !!!

The way it is often done is that the first half of the presentations will be public, which would be the actual products, without mention of the source, the network that the product run on would a hypothetical network.

Then the last half of the meeting would be under nondisclosure, that part would be about what would be happening over the next few days or weeks.

Things like a leveraged buyout of Disney, maybe XM Radio being purchased outright or who knows what else.

If they don't get in the business of media business consolidation they have lost it !!!

Isn't this how the repleclents are introduced to socity, a media event with no instant outlet. Like the Invasion of the Body Shachers, or any of other SciFi books or films. The replicants hold meetings. and thoes who attend become replicants, and pretty soon we are all... buying white Apple products... like the movie The Stuff. Dam you all. Take your iPods and cool gadgets elseware. I got it, it's like They Live. Only aliens could come up with cool things that look as though aliens made them. I won't let popular culture control me. I'm buying shody uncool gear from now on.

Wait, I went some Apple training classes. I forgot that I am now a replicant. Never mind... I'll just get back to work at Yoyodine

Pop-culture will not affect me!

I just watched that Oragami video. It's interesting, but it's too stinking big and totally rips off the iPod UI. How about that fugly yellow-green plastic on the sides? That's just awesome!

I'd buy something like that if it was a whole lot better.

[edit] Speaking of HAL, I think that's the next thing Apple should work on. I don't know how it could be done, but Apple should make HAL eyes that you can put around your house. They should wirelessly work with all your electronics and appliances (minus the door locks), and be voice-commanded, just like in the movie. Or...something like that...

Hmm..if MS actually pulled this off, aka it worked with anywhere near the efficiency of an Apple product, it could be a shift for a lot of things. Granted, the thing they show is huge (its not an actual product anyway) but that level of integration with other things could a hit. Remember, the enemy of your enemy is your friend, and EVERYONE (phone makers, PC makers, MP3 makers) has their targets on Apple.

Lets see what Steve does tomorrow, if its a similar product, I would not be suprised whatsoever if Apple planned on this thing being released a little later, and bumped up the unveiling to take away MS thunder (again, making MS look "me-too")

EDIT: and if you think tablets are not popular, a dead end, thing again. Walk around NYC, they are starting to make their presence known, just like iPods did 4 years ago...

 Steve Jobs is not the Chairman of the Board of Disney, nor reportedly is he interested in that position.

DIS has a market cap of 54.66B, AAPL 60.24B

I personally do like Disney, except for some aspects of the last few years of the Eisner reign.

It just looks like a Newton message pad. They were similar size and there were plans for a even bigger Newton back in the day.

With this said, it looks like a cool every day device, like to read and scribble etc. Sometimes a laptop is too big with its keyboard and screen. I'm so very tempted!!!!
