The EU could make all that data collection illegal. Microsoft even sends data to it servers, if the customer does not want that.

And non of those corporations you mentioned invades my privacy. Google of course is even worse than Microsoft. The world would be a better place without Google.
Never going to happen. EU needs Microsoft more than Microsoft needs EU.

Doesn't hold in my bit of Europe, particularly away from the enterprise sector and desktops. It's unusual now to see anything other than a Mac laptop in cafes and iPhones are by far the most common phone you see. (Companies there now seem to issue them too).

One thing that doesn't seem to be being picked up on is that in the last couple of years all the 'yoof' I know have now started buying recon or secondhand phones. Five years ago they all were queuing up at Apple stores for the latest releases but that's now not the thing to do. My daughters friends do all still buy plenty of iPhones but she doesn't know anyone who's bought a new one in the last couple of years.

I think there's a few reasons - cost inflation, durability (they don't like wrap around cases so they get cracked / tatty very quickly) plus probably the most important - they've all had their phones stolen at some point. (The police here, no matter how info you give them simply aren't interested). My other daughter had her fancy new one stolen within a month of having it. They just can't afford to invest lots of money in something that will just be taken from them quickly.
Well, you are from the UK while I mainly work for Northern and European companies and the only companies that are using Apple products are the UK companies, which is why I said that almost all the companies that I know use Windows.
Still, as far as I am aware and as far as my experiences go most companies that we provide IT Support to use Windows and Android.
Not sure if I'm breaking any NDA's, probably not, since I'm not giving the names of the companies still use old computers and most companies are still on Windows 10.

If a laptop or a phone gets stolen you can lock the devices from Azure. Most servers are on Azure or VMware too and I've only seen Linux and Windows servers. Never have I seen a Mac server. And everybody still uses Microsoft Office even on Macs. In real life most people I know use Android phones as well. I'm the only one using a Mac and an iPhone and an iPad.
Some people call me 'an American' for that, but yeah, it might be different in the US or the UK, especially considering many countries still don't have official Apple Stores.

Sure, not disagreeing with your experience. Mind Apple never really chased the enterprise market I guess - although remember X-Serve?

I think I was trying to suggest that it's often odd, unexpected things, that can cause issues for products - the theft aspect here has become a weird catch 22, the more phones that get stolen the more people don't buy new ones ... which creates demand for secondhand ... which creates a bigger market for stolen phones... and so it turns.

i agree with the valuations
aapl stock has been stagnant
msft seems to be going steady with revenues
its been awhile since aapl released something "insanely great"

Microsoft are doing very well in the Enterprise field, the work they've done with Copilot is pretty awesome. It's definitely going to change how people do work day to day. I wonder if Apple will ever complete with Microsoft productivity suite and Enterprise Cloud services for the everyday business
I just wish they'll stick with cool consumer things they do that might not do amazingly at first instead of killing them off before they're fully developed. Apple succeeds because, well, marketing and their complicit fanbois in the media but also because they stick doggedly at something they want to sell.

I miss almost everything they did in the last ten-plus years. Zune. WP. The original vision for Surface. Band. And stuff they didn't ever get to do - like a trickle-down Hololens before Apple put blonde hair on it. snif

I'm also European and just on personal experience Apple has gone up but it went from "never seen one" to "look, there's a Mac!".

I practically live on Excel and there is nothing like it. It can be replaced but if only your needs are really basic.

Excel is the only good part of their office suite. Google sheets it’s actually a really good alternative, if you are ok with online only.

Copilot is annoying, simply because they push it so hard in Windows and Edge. I have to use both at work, and CoPilot, ChatGPT and whatever Google offers is network-wide blocked at my company (hospital), so things in Edge just time out or load forever...
Do you know that you can go into the settings in Edge and simply turn Copilot and the sidebar off? I did that for my Windows 11 PC and i never see or hear a peep out of it.

I do like Google Sheets. Sometimes being online is an advantage. I use it mainly for non work stuff and easy file sharing. It's better than emailing non technical people which never take care of files.

If your IT is at all competent they can turn all that stuff off on your Edge. In fact if it's policy then the mind boggles why it's not.

Wow... insanity...

I wonder if Apple will do what they can to overtake Microsoft...

Hopefully with Windows 10 EOL, it will become the year of the Mac (Not Linux)

I noticed savvy users are moving to Windows 10 IoT LTS or whatever it’s called. Supported until 2032

I'd say not 'savvy' but 'hates change'. Their tools most likely won't change in the intervening period (and is probably carried over from 7 or XP if that's their mentality) so they will probably feel right at home. But not really savvy as such.

Me, I'm starting to despite Windows 11 in the way that they're actually trying to make it more like MacOS, but they seemingly don't realise they're not Apple - and also without Apple's doggedness in making something work and having it not be plastered with unfinished parts. If I wanted Explorer.exe for 5-year-olds for example, I can just turn to my existing Macs for a far more finished version of that.

Windows I get, I've always been a mac user so I do struggle when I use it but it’s not bad, but man their whole office suite is a complete mess.

I’ve only just started using it, and man is it bad. How the hell has it become such an industry standard?

I guess you don’t need to be good to be on top.
You're using it wrong.

lot of components come with scratches and scuffs and it is unacceptable. AirPods still come scratched up out of the box. There was even an article with complaint back when the Airpods Pro 2 came out and misaligned assembly.

All Macbook Pros come with scratches in their display.

The list goes on...they will not fit cause people will just buy, because its Apple. The same excuse Forstall used with the Maps fiasco which got him fired.

That's a very long way from your original statement. And "All MacBook Pros come with scratches in their display"? That's just silly.

I'd hate to think what would happen if you start unpacking a bunch of Surfaces with that kind of take

Maybe an aneurysm

😂

I should clarify that my main gripe is with OneDrive/Teams/Sharepoint/Loop/etc.

They are all trying to do similar things, but separately they don’t do everything you need, but there’s still overlap in each of their functionality. Then there are the associated apps like Lists, which you can access from some places but not others, and there are different versions. It’s just a massive mess. They are like google where they just build all these products, but instead of canceling them like google does all the time, they keep them around for longer.

Also Word has and always will be a pain in the ass to use. And also the online version of Excel is pretty bad too.

Ok rant over now. 😅

Microsoft is just a giant hollow shell of its former past. They now just make worthless overpriced bloated products.
It is just a matter of time before that shell collapses and the true "value" of Microsoft will show.

Does anyone remember Nokia and Microsoft Windows Phone and how hard they both failed worldwide?
Nokia became almost irrelevant. Microsoft though, will become absolutely irrelevant.

Microsoft Windows, a massive bloatware/laggy software project, is the only "valuable" product Microsoft has left.
And once Microsoft Windows dies (less than 10 years), Microsoft will no longer be relevant.
