Shouldn't be that surprising since Microsoft still are the household OS, they charge premium prices for their surfaces. And also sell an OS and other software that all relies on third party hardware sales. I was somewhat surprised to see Apple surpass them in the past.
 
Just bumping this thread back up because Apple has just regained the distinction as being the largest corporation as measure by market capitalization.

Perhaps, but Apple has a long term view.

It would have sucked for the investors that bought at $230/sh and panic-sold at $140/sh.

It is great for the folks that bought in on the dip at $140 because they'd be looking at a 21% gain in a month.

It sucks for the shorts that didn't cover at $140, hoping it would drop even further.

As with many things in life, if something sucks for somebody, there's probably someone else who's cheering it on.
