What is MS aiming at with this ad is what most people here don't seem to understand. Here is the answer.

Together with other Samsung ads they try and destroy Apple image, and years of Apple's advertising that built a brand image appearing as innovative, cool, smart, upper class, high quality etc.
it's not about advertising their own products. It's not about being convincing, fun, annoying or whatever. It's about preventing people from becoming AAPL customers, also about making current customers question whether Apple is really what they made us think they are.

Apple brand is strong. Hence there will be other ads like this. Maybe not that many though, if they deliver products somewhat short of the expectations they themselves create.

There's nothing wrong with a little tongue-in-cheek humor, except when there's no humor. At least in the Mac vs. PC ads, most people could relate to the problems with the PC.

Most people? Most OS X users, you mean - especially those, who hadn't seen a PC from up close in 10 years. The Mac vs. PC ads heavily relied on opinions formed years before when Windows actually did suck. That had long changed however and while the ads were clearly much more expensive, they were just as dumb as Microsoft's

Keep pushing Microsoft and I'll never buy another one of your products...

ever...

I had considered an Xbone but after all of the controversy... nah...

I had considered a Surface but after a poorly designed and executed roll out... nah...

I had considered a Nokia Phone but after you bought them... on second thought... nah...

Keep it up losers...

I've been struggling with my decision of either getting the PS4 or Xbox One... This makes it much easier. PS4.

Apple doesn't seem to need any help to destroy said image on their own.

Very bad taste from MS. Their image improved when Windows 7 was released and now it's gone back down.

Poor show.

What great new technology are you expecting from the iPhone 6 ?

A new design/body style to start out with. We've been looking at this same body style (with minor variations) for almost 4 years now! It is getting old & booorring! Second, 8mp!?? Are you serious lol? You can call it isight, bigger pixels, or Van Gogh.. in the ens it's the same 8mp camera lol.

If that is true, they must not care about their own brand image enough. Here they're playing as the lowest qualified player on the field to create technical fouls hoping to win the game. Is that a smart strategy? Maybe. But at the cost of their own image, which of course, is at the bottom of the barrel right now.

Cause the tiles are so cooool!
Most people over 60 and even only 50 can't use new PCs properly even when they had one before running XP or Vista or Seven !

I thought they were kinda funny and clever. :)
I think the pointless part, from the point of view of Microsoft, is that these ads sound more like Apple fans whining about apple products. Microsoft doesn't offer any better suggestions.

Sure, Apple is making a plastic phone. But they are also making a metal phone. Pretty much every competing smartphone on the market is plastic, and most of those are "cheap" plastics.

Yeah, Apple is "only" giving us a fingerprint sensor. WTF is Microsoft giving us? Can Microsoft-owned Skype on a WP8 phone answer calls in the background yet?

I get it actually, but ....

Truth is, it's not about people being "iSheep" OR about Apple offering something "really innovative" this time around.

It's more a matter of people finding a product they like (iPhone and iOS) and wanting to stick with what works for them. If you've been using iPhones for years, you may just be ready for a replacement handset because your existing one is starting to look worse for the wear. So what's the most logical thing to do? Line up for the latest version of it, so you can keep the iOS you know and like, and get some incrementally new features and improvements while you're at it.

I gotta agree with the ad. What the hell has Apple been doing the last 6 months? But unfortunately, the iPhone 5C/S will not flop. People will once again line up in droves like nice little iSheep. I don't understand it. They're not bad phones, but their not innovative.

Apple vs Microsoft

The add was pretty lame but maybe it worked as intended. Look at all of the comments that people are making, it got you talking about windows. I have seen some pretty childish things come from Apple too. Now, I own products from both companies but I do not defend either company as if it were my child or as if the add was intended as a personal attack on myself. I've never understood the hate relationship that each companies customers have and show towards one another. If you don't like something, simply don't buy it. No reason to bash the other. With that said, I'm looking forward to purchasing the iPhone 5S when it becomes available.

If I see some %$#@ commercial by htc targeting Apple...I'm done with htc:cool:
I do like Apple and this year I decide to go with htc because 4.7" 1080p screen.
If Apple bring the same screen next year I may go with SAMSUNG.

Truth is, it's not about people being "iSheep" OR about Apple offering something "really innovative" this time around.

The problem is: outside the US, where Apple hasn't managed to maintain their submissive (for the providers) contracts with the mobile service providers, the pricing of the new iPhones is so bad that people literally can't afford them anymore. I live in Switzerland - probably the wealthiest country in the world - and people can't afford the phones. A 32gb iPhone 5S costs 1100$ here unsubsidized and around 800$ on a two-year contract. The 5C is about 100$ cheaper. Go figure.
