I'm guessing it was in bad taste after all.

spend some time and money making phones MS and stop wasting time and money bashing your far superior competition. You are at the bottom at least come out with a good product that sells at least 100x more than you current shift.

I gotta agree with the ad. What the hell has Apple been doing the last 6 months? But unfortunately, the iPhone 5C/S will not flop. People will once again line up in droves like nice little iSheep. I don't understand it. They're not bad phones, but their not innovative.

What has Apple been doing?
uhh: Designing a 64-bit ARM CPU? And updating their OS and dev tools to 64-bit? And moving more functionality to dedicated hardware (to improve security --- fingerprints) and reduce power (M7)? Improving both the SW and HW of what is already a far superior camera?

WTF do you WANT Apple to have been doing during this time? What do YOU consider would have been a great new innovation over the iPhone 5? Adding an additional (never used) ARM core? Adding (unnecessary and power sucking) DRAM? Adding some useless gimmick like a crappy projector or that no-one uses like NFC?

Innovation consists of providing what people actually will USE, not in increasing the numbers of some spec checklist.
[The point of 64-bit is that it is NOT a checklist item. As I have explained elsewhere in great detail, it is the first step in a process that both allows Apple faster single-threaded CPUs and substantially reduces their engineering burden moving forward.]

Windows phone market share is increasing in some European markets and in Mexico, while shrinking in China and stagnant in the US. Nokia finally managed to gain momentum in smartphone sales, and it's up to Microsoft to keep that trend alive. Their current performance in devices doesn't lend itself to that at the moment, but only time will tell.

Windows Phone actually on a percentage basis last year increased more then any other mobile OS. Granted it was from a low starting point. It is now in 3rd place having surpassed Blackberry.

http://www.wpcentral.com/shipments-windows-phone-77-year-largest-increase-over-competitors

And through word of mouth, I expect the Lumia 521 to start making those numbers even better. It really is the best smart phone bargain out there. Cheap Android phones are just not as good since they usually run older versions of Android.

I'm a developer and quite honestly I can say that mobile development around Windows Phone is picking up very significantly in the US. Last year, Windows Mobile classes at the University level were very scarce and now they are not only available but they have a good deal of interest.

Expect Windows phone to have at least 10% market share in the US within 2 years. My bet is 15% unless Android does a better job of improving its user experience on low end phones.

I don't expect Microsoft to be making big profits but they will start cutting into Apple's and Samsung's profits.

In many ways, Windows Phone competes more directly with Apple IOS then Android since both companies offer a more controlled environment.

wow, the reaction on this forum is just atrocious - it's a parody ad and you iphone freaks just get all twisted up. Sheesh - the ads may be dull to you but it's hilariously accurate.

The only innovative thing which isn't really innovative just more refined is the touch ID fingerprint sensor. Everything else is not what we asked for. Worse thing is they intentionally kill off the iPhone 5 and replace it with a plastic iPhone 5. It's like putting the cMBP in plastic and saying the rMBP is it. Give me a break - get rid of the stupid plastic and just make the iPhone 6. You trickle push out incremental minor updates and it's just as pathetic as these ads.

Yeah, because the annual updates from the other phone manufacturers are just leaps and bounds ahead of Apple's! 64 bit? Motion chip? They're setting themselves up for the future, just like they did with Snow Leopard. You must be new to the Apple ecosystem if you can't figure out how they operate yet...

And they didn't "kill off the iPhone 5", they have actually created a new category. No longer does their previous model have to be the other phone in the lineup. By creating the iPhone 5c, they now have the ability to diverge the product line and differentiate their offerings, NOT just offer last year's model as a more economical alternative. Like taking the Macbook line and creating the Macbook and Macbook Pro.

Yes the commercial is in bad taste but it is also kinda true.. Better chip, battery, and camera (it's really the same 8mp) is getting old! The finger print is nice but is it enough to pay $250+ with tax? My iphone 4s is working fine and I think I will wait till next year for the iphone 6.

Don't get too excited...

I hope the employees at the Microsoft store in the Mall of America don't get overly excited and j*** in their pants when they see the crowd forming outside their doors. It's just the line stretching down the corridor and around the corner of people waiting for the new iPhone at the nearby Apple store.

Poor Microsoft, no sales for you! :D

False Indignation...

You guys are just butthurt about these ads poking fun at Apple and you don't really think they intended it to be Steve sitting there, right?!

It's very obvious that's supposed to be Tim Cook.

They may have been pretty badly done and did nothing to explain Microsoft had a better product but they weren't disrespectful to Jobs.

As an owner of each iPhone since day one, I am concerned about the lack of innovation, of late. I think that poking fun of Apple for this is fair game. While I have a lot of faith the iPhone 6 will be pretty amazing, that's a year away and Apple has left their lunch out on the table for the competition to devour.

In the past year Android got really good and is a viable alternative now, to a lot of consumers. Apple is just looking tired and arrogant with this years spec bump. Flame all you want, I don't wave the banner of any corporation and think competition is good for all of us.

Even if I do have a soft spot for Apple, having bought stock in 2002. :)

you do realize that you don't have to buy a new phone every year. Incredibly, you can keep the phone you have and wait until there's a phone that has many more features than the one you have. There is plenty of difference between the iphone 4 and the 5s.

They are a company trying to make money (and doing a damn good job of it), but if you don't like their incremental updates, you have the incredible power as a consumer not to buy it and wait until a new model has many more features compared to the one you already own. Or you can buy a (OMG should i say it?) a different brand of phone.

If you want a phone with a lot of futuristic features, you can start your own phone company and make billions instead of whining like a little b****.

What are you expecting the phone to do? Make you toast? I don't think some of you will ever be satisfied. You've grown jaded and don't really seem to understand all the technology that has been smashed together in such a small device. It's not just a telephone anymore, it's bluetooth, motion sensing, wireless, music, videos, web browsing, digital camera, video camera, streaming, the ability to face time with someone halfway across the planet by pushing a button, GPS (you know ... satellites that are orbiting the earth in space at 7,000+ mph are able to tell you where you are on the planet by the little device you hold in your hand), among other things.

I think some of you are just being negative to be negative. You take for granted the amazing things we have available to us in this day and age.

1st world problems.

My sentiment exactly!
The jaded addict looking for his new fix got disappointed.
Guess the coloured plastic and fingerprint sensor wasn't potent enough!
When is it ever enough ?

It is for me.
I just got a deal on a brand new warranty replacement iPhone 4S with 32GB bought off of a guy that's switching. It does everything I need & want with a fresh battery and I'll be satisfied for years with it.

Go buy that new S4 or next iAlternative phone every 6 months. Apple's competitor's stock holders will thank you for it. It's your choice and I respect it, but respect my choice too.

There's life outside of staring into a little or big screen.

What great new technology are you expecting from the iPhone 6 ?

My Commodore was 64bit back in 1986 and my Nintendo was 64 in 1997 why is Apple late to the party again?

seriously though, these incremental updates and "new colors" are pointless when the competitors are much less expensive

lowering the prices by $100 on ALL the models would have been sweeping, instead its another MEH updated and EVERYONE is disappointed

So sick of hearing this tired lament. People buy what they like. Not everyone cares about "innovation".

LOL. Funny how the Android apologists have changed. Suddenly.
They used to:

1. Mindlessly recite hardware buzzwords and/or specs (e.g. "Your wife will love the dual-core Tegra...")
2. Mumble incoherently about "choice" as a defense against un-deletable carrier spamware
3. Wave "open" pom-poms to try and convince consumers that "open" made any difference

Not any more. Can't talk hardware or specs because Apple's custom-designed 64-bit A7 crushes any vanilla ARM chip that Samsung can ship. Can't talk about "choice" any more because Samsung's marketing budget has crushed the life out of all other Android handset makers. (Remember when HTC was the #1 Android handset maker? That was only what, 18 months ago, and they're deader than fried chicken now.)

Oh, and yeah, your average consumer has zero idea what the "open source movement" is. And neither does your average Android handset owner. All they care about is Angry Birds and texting and Facebook. They would have gotten an iPhone if it were more colorful. Their wish has been granted.

Fortunately, I downloaded them all, just so I can tell my gran kids about that tech company from the 1990s that isn't around anymore.

Since the ad seemed to have been about the loss of Jobs meaning the loss of innovation, I don't agree with that. Not because I find Apple super innovative, but because I don't think it was related to Jobs being there or not. He must have been directly involved in the design and features of the iPhone 5 since it was such a close successor to the 4S, and today's iPhone 5s is directly related to that one, in turn. Actually, the 5s seems like an unusually nice "refinement phone" on that model. Camera improvements and fingerprint sensor (neither the Jobs-announced 3GS nor 4S had such completely new unique end-user visible hardware) and the M7 chip.

The only oddity here would be the 5c, but I think it's hard to tell what would have happened if Jobs was here. Regardless him helming Apple or not, Apple would have had a profit margin problem that needed to be solved. The 5c is Tim Cook's attempt at that. Who knows how Steve Jobs' would have looked?

Anyway, Jobs must be turning in his grave. These topics following him leaving Apple was exactly what he despised.

Isn't that right! You can just feel the anger in the iAddicts posts that he didn't get what he wanted sooo bad.
