Microsoft needs to focus on telling people why they should buy a Surface and not why they should not buy an iPad.

You're right, it creates negativity and that reflects on the surface. When viewing my thoughts went like this: I didn't see a lot but I heard a lot of moaning and.. oh it's something from microsoft?

Does the buyer want something that can be a computer, or a tablet?

Microsoft surface sucks because it is neither fully centered around being a tablet yet, when you try to make it like a computer, (attach a keyboard, pop out it's stand, etc.) it isn't entirely centered around being a computer either.

It needs to have a good experience in one aspect. Not a bad experience in multiple aspects.

Oh dear!

I have nothing against a bit of competitor banter but this is laughable! Microsoft seriously need to rethink their strategy...this ad is just embarrassing.

The mobile side of iPad is iOS , the desktop version is OS X , blah blah same argument.

What? I'm saying there are two sides to the Surface, the tablet side and the regular old Windows side. Why would you compare it to iOS and OS X? Apple don't even have a device which runs both.

Though not sure what is so exciting and attractive about iOS to be honest

iOS is popular because it focuses on being simple, easy to use and beautiful. Thats what makes it attractive to the majority of people. The same can't be said for Windows 8 in my experience. And as you pointed out, iOS has way more apps available which is another reason why the average person would be better of with an iPad.

If you just want to use the most common apps, consume media, email and surf the web the surface is fine.

Sure, but the iPad can do all of that as well, so why not just get an iPad?

Pretty?

Natch. If they would be fair they would have had Siri say 'Oh well at least I'm making Apple some money'... And mind you Apple is paying for research with that among others...

I don't really let myself get annoyed by these ads anymore because Microsoft already had to discount it to $350 due to their $900 million loss from the Surface on top of the $1.5 billion advertising budget :p

Microsoft has an Image Problem. The ONLY reason anyone buys a Microsoft product is because it is cheaper than the competition. Then in their ads they tell you "Yes we know you want the Apple product that you can't afford, but ours is almost as good and it is much cheaper."

The above might work to sell product, "cheaper" is always better but it ends up giving MS a bad image as a second rate discount product.

lol cheap since when? Their software apps have always been pricey (office, windows etc.), certainly more so than Apple in this. Now a hardware manufacturer like HP would get the vote for discounted, but I wouldn't really put microsoft as cheap.

At first, these 'bash the iPad' ads were funny. Now, they are just plain sad.

@Ballmer: if you really have cash to burn, don't use it for producing more ads. Use it to hire 2-3 top notch devs and create something that people want to use.

Surface is a dead product or soon to be if we want to be 100% accurate. The iPad is getting free publicity and that's a good thing, another good thing is the fact that competitors unknowingly are making people believe that the iPad is the high end standard in the tablets market and they are trying to offer an alternative with work arounds to additional hardware that Apple missed out on yet their sales keep stinking and the iPad is still selling. I though the USB argument is way too old, and a keyboard extension for a tablet? no thanks.

Back to the drawing board Microsoft.

Wow.... I still don't want one

Zuna Zuna Zune..... tablet.

If you want to take a great idea, really any great idea (the browser, the operating system, iPad, iPod, iPhone) and completely make it suck.

Just let Ballmer and Gates put their sweaty, smelly palms on it.

Next Week..... Microsofts Newest technology (patent pending)

a rock disguised as a rock.

They were going to call it the "iRock" but they didn't want to sound too self promotional.

Make it Tegra 8; nobody cares anyway.

But at least the ad is accurate on one point: "this is not going to end well"...for Microshaft.
I can imagine RT going first party for them. There does not appear to be any new hardware built around 8.1 in the cards. There are still rumors going for Tegra 4 though and along with RT. Tegra 3 is ancient and they have already invested into their store. Time for round two.

AMD is MIA with Kaveri and Temash right now.

I wish there was a report citing if these ads work, drive iPad sales instead, or something similar to it. :p

This is getting out of hand.

Like Windows Phone, they came WAY too late into the game for this to have a chance. There is just no reason for any RT developer to make something that will only work on that one device.

The problem in this instance is not the Surface physical product, which is actually pretty slick.

The problem is Windows RT, because it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

MSFT needs to combine their mobile initiative between phones and tablets, and then have a desktop platform. This jumbled mess of Phone, RT, Windows 8 is retarded as hell, and is bound to fail.
