Thing is, this shouldn't prevent the update from being applied. A lot of us want the ability to clear out the language files we dont need or use. This never was a problem with office 11 (or any other previous version), why have it be one in 12? This is something that should be corrected. Because if you clear out those files that are unneeded across the board, even with apple's applications and the operating system itself, it can return valuable space to those of us that are in desperate need of as much as we can get. Please, pass that along and have it corrected. That shouldn't really be an issue. I'd understand more if there was missing core files etc., but the language files are not at the core of the program and shouldn't hinder an update.

This is a very fair point to which I would add that we should be able to remove unnecessary applications without worrying that autoupdate will function properly. For example, I only need to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint on occasion for compatibility with work documents. I have absolutely no need for Mac Messenger or Entourage, no matter how nice Microsoft believes them to be. Why must I download and leave these unnecessary applications on my hard drive in order for me to be able to receive and utilize periodic software updates for the programs I do use. I understand that some programs have bug fixes for issues that effect multiple applications, but there is always a work around for well written software to be able to read the apps on a system and apply updates to those apps only.

I hope that can be passed along for future versions as I do not believe I am alone in my non-use for some of the Office Suite programs.

I installed this and it fixes two things I was finding annoying:

Word: new documents on opening Word had buttons greyed out until you clicked off that and refocused. It was an issue when endnote was installed.

Xcel: improved performance with spreadsheets with large number of entires and drawing charts.

Does anybody know if a combo update including all the office updates is available? Each time I install Office 2008 on a new/reformated machine, I have to go through each update individually (.1,.2,.3), which takes about half an hour all up :-(

Office's incompatibility with Spaces has become so annoying, I've stopped using Office entirely.

I understand that it may not be a simple fix but as there are now plenty of free alternatives, Microsoft better sort this one out pronto. It's embarrassing.

Anyone besides me not able to send calendar invites or respond to calendar invitations via exchange after this update?

I am currently running 12.1.2. Autoupdate does not find 12.1.3 or any update.

So I get this when I try to install either 11.5.0 or 11.5.2, I have Office 04 btw. I don't think I've actually updated anything since I installed, though I just downloaded the auto updater, which I can't find anywhere and isn't doing anything auto. Suggestions?

It is also not showing up for me through autoupdate .. so, it was downloaded manually.

ditto. some of us use MBA with limited hard drive space

Well, it looks like I'll just stick with Pages, and delete Office from my MBP completely. :D

I did that within 10 minutes of installing office and iWork to compare. It just doesn't hold weight.

Plus - if all else fails, I can always "print" as a PDF to ensure everyone can open my documents.

What a piece of crap! Yup, a waste of money for me. I re-installed MS Office for Mac 2008 on my MBA and my Mac Pro and kept receiving the prompt that I don't have the software installed on this volume:

MS Update didn't work because I had used XSlimmer but manually downloading and running the update worked fine. Ran XSlimmer again to save 100+MBs.

According to the website, you require 12.1.2 installed. I'm guessing the version you have on disc is probably 12.0. You'll need to apply each incremental update.

It's annoying I've done it many times. And this is why Apple likes to have updates to apps have them remove them entirely and install a new version - you don't have to worry about what version a user previously had.

Incorrrect; its clearly stated on their website:

Before you install this update, make sure that the Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac Service Pack 1 (12.1.0) is installed on your computer. To verify that you have installed this update, open any Microsoft Office 2008 application (for example, open Word), and then on the Word menu, click About Word. In the dialog box, compare the version number next to Latest Installed Update.

You've obviously buggered it up. Re-install Office and stop bloody well fiddling it with.

You know when I was writing my last post, I was going to write 12.1.0, because that was what I had read earlier when I updated. Then I went to their update page, and I swear it said 12.1.2, so I had to edit.

Checking now....

I have 12.1.2 installed and it still DOES NOT detect the 12.1.3 as an available update. I guess this Office 08 from Microsoft is a perfect complement to a new glossy screen from Apple

Just Manually DL from the MS Download site

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.1.3 Update

And install the update!

Worked without a hiccup for me even though Auto Update didn't recognize any new updates available. I did have 12.1.2 already installed!

The New MacBook, MacBook Pro, and 24" LED backlit display have us all a bit GRUMPY :( I'm guessing!

Let me guess: Still no fix for Office's Spaces hopping antics?

Are you serious? This is going to be one of the all new features in Office 2011 for Mac. Features like this takes years to develop and release.

With all due respect, if you manually force-feed the update, how do you know it installed correctly/completely? I have done NOTHING to my Office 2008 install and I still don't see the update. Doesn't that indicate something's wrong? I mean besides the fact that it's Mocrosoft software?

You're not manually force-feeding anything! My understanding is that all the autoupdater does is to download the update and run scripts that tell it to install just the same as you do (ie mount .dmg, run installer, agree to install, remove installer). It's simply that Microsoft hasn't put the hooks in telling autoupdater that there is an update. Yet.

Well since everything installed without hanging and all the proggies are indicating they are 12.1.3, I'm pretty sure they're working.

How do you know when you manually DL an Apple Software Download that it is working???

MS probably hasn't updated the AutoUpdate to recognize this update as yet.

You can wait for MS to do this or go the Manual route.

The Manual Update is working fine!
