The whole save a version is a pain the hoLe, requiring user to duplicate file to re-edit rather than just the previous and much better way of choosing to 'save as' and rename the file and save as a new file.

Yeah, i agree. Until now, since Versions has only appeared on programs like Pages, it seems to have gone unnoticed, as Pages is i'm guessing more used by people who would be open to changes like that. I reckon if you started forcing 'Versions' onto Microsoft Office, there would be a backlash :)

"Word" of warning. My update is now asking me to enter the product key. I have a legit copy but it thinks its already registered, now I have to call Microsoft.
If you have a copy that fell off the back of a truck, be careful.

... fell off of a track ... - that is so funny.

I like MS Office on mac a lot, missing that feature of removing spaces between pages though

I love Word and Excel. I think Word 2011 is a lot better than Word 2010, a huge improvement over 2008, and is way better than Pages for what I do. I tried using Pages to write a paper once and it was a disaster. Pages is fine for writing letters and short documents but Word is a work horse.

Word 2011 is extremely stable for me, easier to use, very powerful. It is my 2nd most used program and I think that Microsoft did a great job.

Also, I hope Microsoft doesn't implement Versions until Apple gets its head out of its ass. Versions paradigm is way too dangerous when you are working on important documents and need to be in control. I haven't lost a document due to not saving in over 2 years, but in less than 3 months with Lion I had three sets of data corrupted and had to find an alternative to TextEdit just to keep my data safe.

I tend to agree with you. I prefer the option to save and save as.

The whole save a version is a pain the hoLe, requiring user to duplicate file to re-edit rather than just the previous and much better way of choosing to 'save as' and rename the file and save as a new file.

Pages irritates me profoundly now with the lack of the save as option.

I've got used to duplicating although it's boring having to close the old versions afterwards. What always annoys me is having to find the original folder in order to save the duplicate. Let's hope that mountain lion will bring major improvements to this area, and perhaps Microsoft will have office ready for this...

Maybe because they realise that Versions is at best an acquired taste.

Having not used Office on Mac, doesn't it just auto-save versions like it does on PC? Does it use its own method instead of the system-wide version in OS X?

Curious to see how many installs get "broke" because of this....not that my copy fell off a truck or anything.......

Did they finally include the statistical analysis toolpak missing in Office for Mac 2011 but present in the windows 2010 version?

Some nice changes to Outlook, but no full screen? That really sucks and continues to make MSOffice look and feel out-of-date. (I understand why it's harder to do with Outlook, but it's still a thrashing.)

i keep getting this....

Ugh. I've been (somewhat) patiently waiting for this and of course it's not there. Thanks for fixing major bugs but seriously... how about the next step of actually making the Calendar usable for us.

Office for Mac is very good in my opinion, it's just Microsoft release updates for it incredibly slowly. I would also like them to add iCloud document support to the apps so it could work like iWork as well as have office on iOS.

Office for Mac is great. I'm glad they finally added fullscreen support. (Now, if only Firefox would.) I don't like working in fullscreen often, it's an awful habit Windows users have, but it's nice when you need all the space you can get on a 13" screen.

As for iCloud? Not gonna happen. If anything, they'll tie it into SkyDrive.

I'm excited about a patch for Outlook. Since the upgrade to Lion, the thing beach balls like crazy and it won't quit, even after rebuilds of the database. I use exchange so I'm pleased to see them doing something.

Having said that, I still get nervous updating for fear of getting one thing fixed and 10 other features broken.

No way. I love this version of office. I'd take Outlook over iCal/Mail and the upcoming Reminders for Mountain Lion. Office is the only thing I like from Microsoft.

Yet, somehow, beyond all comprehension, they still don't support Lion's full screen, auto-save and versions.

Mind blowing.

EDIT: Seems I was mistaken. The three core apps got full-screen support. At this rate, we only have to wait 18 more months to get the last two features!

Thank GOD it doesnt support versions. What a disaster that concept is.

Slow over VPN

Does anyone VPN into their office server and open word files?
It's painfully slow and wanted to know if this update addressed the issue?

Does Word even support opening files off a server, because It takes about 2 minutes to open a 2mb file over the 10mbit VPN connection and then when you scroll down pages, you get the beach ball. It's painful.

Any chance of Publisher?

I installed the trial version of Mac Office 2011 and really like it. It's slick, stable and makes me want to get down to some serious work. My only stumbling block is the absence of Publisher.

My work place are stubbornly holding on to Windows PCs and their app of choice for seemingly everything they want me to work on is MS Publisher. Will there ever be a Mac version of this powerful but exclusive little gem?

I know there is plenty of Mac-compatible software that does similar things (I currently use "The Printshop" for my own projects) but if I need to do anything for work, I have to do it "at" work. :(

Hey Jordan, thanks again for another update! It seems you are the only one to report OS updates.....:D Sometimes, Macrumors announces the update before it is available for my Mac.

I would call it "ubiquitous" or "widely used", but not "hugely popular". I don't know anyone who likes that suite.

The update lists no improvements to Excel and it fails to mention that your custom toolbar setting will be reset.

Meanwhile in Word, my toolbar is unchanged, including the bug that means that if my toolbar is hidden, I have to show, hide then show it again in order to see my tools.
