This. All the Pros I know have already ditched Adobe. And good riddance.
You don’t know many Pros. Revenue from Adobe shows they make a killing off their products and that their use base dwarfs Affinity (itself w/ well over 1 million users myself included) never mind Pixelmator which is far less.

Wait, can users just use the ipad version while waiting for the full native app? The iPad version can run fine on Big Sur, no?

I use Office on my 2017 MacBook. It has always felt "beta," compared to what I run on my work PC.

Microsoft are much more on the ball this time with the move to Apple Silicon - I remember the pain of having to use Office via Rosetta during the prior PowerPC to Intel transition, Microsoft took forever to release a Intel version of Office for the Mac.

I think Office is Microsoft's bread and butter now, they don't want their customer to look else where.

I just really dislike the business model of paying indefinite subscriptions to have access to a computer application. I want to pay for it once, and receive the necessary bug fixes and security updates for that major version. If I want the next major version, I'll either have to pay full price or pay a subsidized upgrade cost, but I don't want to be locked into a monthly subscription for the rest of my life just to edit spreadsheets (yes, I know there are more capabilities, but the exaggeration highlights my point).

I'm not saying it's not a good value, I'm saying I don't want apps to be subscriptions. I feel the same way about music, by the way. I don't want to be locked into a subscription to access my music library, either. There is solace in relative permanence.
This should be what your looking for

So, how do I get into the Insider Beta to make sure I have the universal binary version from day one?

Hahaha oh that’s one of my favorites! The old “your experiences don’t match mine so you’re a fraud” MR trope. Haven’t heard that one in awhile — thanks for the good laugh, and have fun on the schoolyard.

Good to see the quick jump on the Silicon-car from Microsoft! They must have seen the enormous performance differences with Intel as well, they probably hang out the flag now their struggle for optimised code is less needed.
Ahem,

this isn't 'quick' by Microsoft jumping on Silicon-car ... this is just an updated x86 build while Microsoft needs (or is taking their sweet time) to create native build of MS Office suite.

Don't give them credit, it's not due until they ship ;)

I'm MORE interested to finding out what features are STILL restricted on MacOS that have always been that way (or almost always).

2010 Office allowed using .PST files yet even up to 2016 you still cannot create PST files - not from an O365/M365 or MS Exchange server (on-premises) account. Not to mention so many 4th party Excel Add-ins STILL not compatible. Sure, for add-ins it's solely that particular company is at fault, yet if Microsoft is not advising them of compatibility, they'll not even blink an eye.

Lets see these M1 based Mac's make SuperFly of all kinds of work by users in corporate offices over the next few years and THEN we'll see major industry changes by large and small companies to make premier and quality software for the Mac.

Who else hates it when developers display auto update notifications that contain no release notes and not even a link to see the release notes before installing? Instead, they just scream "UPDATE ME" and expect users to blindly install updates with no information provided.

Needs comparison with Microsoft Office for Windows on ARM to see if it's on par or inferior like MacOS x64 vs Windows x64 version.

Thank you for the reply and please excuse my ignorance. I have dowlnoaded Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and OneNote from the App Store. I do not see a Microsoft Auto Update option.

No ignorance on your part. It looks like the App Store version of office is tied into updates being pushed through the Apple App update process and thus don't give you access to the beta versions. If you had purchased an office 365 licence direct from Microsoft then those come with the Microsoft Auto Update App.

Hopefully the beta will be pushed to the current live version soon and you can receive updates through the App Store. Worst case you may need to run under Rosetta 2 for a short period.

I also jumped to the beta channel.

Installed all new beta versions, but when opening apps, the 'old' apps will start...

How can I get the 'new beta' to start?

The beta does not install separate versions, it will overwrite the current version with the latest beta version.

The current version of Beta is 16.45 - what are you seeing when you check Excel > About Microsoft Excel.

Note you can't run the Beta if you purchased Office via the Apple App Store.

For me with Outlook a short message comes up (within new version) that Outlook Exchange Servers are not supported and after that the old outlook version reappears... But I want to test the new beta. Cannot enable new beta look and feel.

So it is just Outlook that is reverting to Intel then ? I don't use Outlook myself but all the other office apps work fine for me.

I have found the problem, the new look only works with Microsoft hosted Exchange on 365 Servers, it will not work on a companies own Exchange server at this time.

Requirements section

An Office 365, Outlook.com, or Google account.

Looks like it's a long way to go for Microsoft... If they disable companies own on premise Exchange servers....

Could someone already check, if I can open an .PST File within the new Outlook Mac Beta (without importing it). Do have some archives.
At the moment I have to start a Windows-VM to have a look at those archives (with M1 and Big Sur not possible).
