yes the ad sucks but then again most do these days

It's all scripted, with hired actors. That has been established already. Even if it wasn't and the guy decided he got the Mac, they could... oh I don't know... just not air it ?

Yes because if he would have looked at a macbook he would have actually paid less.

Oh yeah, and another thing. Did he ever once mention an os? I mean how "Tech savvy" can you be if you don't even care what the operating system is?

We had the same problem in the commercial with Lauren. It's just alot more funny when you have someone boast being "Tech savvy."

I love how they mention a built in camera.

Oh really. Quite an assumption on your part. Who knows, I may be applying for a job that requires Office 2007 skills and I need to demonstrate my proficiency in order to get hired.

Additionally, while I may not have a full time job, I may be doing part time work that necessitates the use of the Office 2007 suite.

Hum... I don't even know where to begin with this. You're saying that if you had 2 candidates, one that says he knows "Office 2007" and the other that says he knows "How to do Word Processing", and the guy without the Office 2007 docx and without Office 2007 on his resume has about 10 years more experience, you would hire the Office 2007 guy ?

That's some BS requirement for a job. Any secretary worth her salt can jump into about any version of Word and type out that document you need. Heck, even in our technical positions, we don't require knowledge of specific versions, even though managing Solaris 10 and managing Solaris 9 isn't alike at all. We're pretty confident that if a guy has been a Solaris admin for 10 years, even if he's never seen Solaris 10, he'll be able to pick it up.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

Wait till this guy shows up at a Best Buy needing to get his viruses removed. They sure do avoid showing any kind of software type of advertising. Hilarious

He mentions being "tech savvy" in one scene and the very next scene he's asking the sales guy "how big a hard drive can I put in this?"

I couldn't help but think "if he's tech savvy, he knows the answer! It's not up to the laptop model, he just needs to find the largest capacity 2.5" HDD he can pick up from his local parts shop...

I mentioned to my brother that it would be cool if some rich benefactor really did offer people money to buy laptops, and film the results. I wonder how many real people would go in and buy a Mac given that opportunity!

Maybe someone a few years ago, who was unfamiliar with Macs could think this - the fact that Macs were lower in Ghz than the PC equivalents.

Since Mac has been on Intel, they're getting more computing 'power' faster than some of the Dell/HP/whatever PC's out there.

He's clearly just an idiot.

Seems like you are bigger idiot by making this statement and on top of that an oblivious donkey!

I had a lot of issues with Windows, and very much prefer Mac, but I never had a real big issue with viruses. ( Spyware was a different matter). I think this is an exageration that we need to get past.

Ugh. The ONLY reason why Micrsift is still here is because almost all of the population is IGNORANT to the fact that OS X is vastly superior to Windows XP, Vista, 7 etc.

2 years ago I had a custom of with XP, never touch mac before in my life. Sure XP worked but I was always hitting ctrl alt del and my experience was never perfect, maybe sometimes I would have a good day but it was usually corrupted.

Then I got a mac mini for Christmas 2008, all my problem were solved. Everything worked, it was magic! I'm just sad the majority of the population hasn't experienced this yet... We need to do something.

The fact that you're on a computer forum means you're probably more proficient than the average person with them. I've seen my fair share of virus in my early years, when I was in charge of the abuse@ e-mail of my ISP, in the Code Red and Nimda days.

Even very recently, I've had to clean up a few relative's computers from viruses. And these people have auto-updating anti-virus...

Saw this commercial during the UNC game tonight and almost couldn't believe it: I went to middle and high school with Giampaolo Paggi, the star of the commercial. I wrote him, asking how he got into that commercial, he hasn't responded yet

i think these ads have some merit

not gonna lie, i envy the hardware selection with windows immensly

Yep. Where's Apple's tablet, netbook, and slim factor tower/desktop (don't say Mini)?

On the server side, where are the blades and 4U rack systems that can scale to 32 CPUs and 256Gb of RAM? Clusters aren't always desired. A dense system is preferable over a cluster of servers 9 out of 10 times.

i kinda feel bad for these people. they obviously haven't used os x, or else they wouldn't be saying the things they are saying...

For big screen computers, PC's currently have the edge.
However for the 13" form factor, nothing beats the aluminum macbook for cheaper. Anything that is metal, has a LED screen, is a high end Sony/Lenovo/Dell and costs more. The GIANT multitouch trackpad is much more productive than a 0.2 Ghz faster Cpu as well. And since it's based on iPhone tech, it's patented to hell so good luck getting that on a non-apple computer.
For regular customer, I recommend the macbook, for the price conscious, I recommend the hackintosh Dell mini 9. As long as you buy a retail copy of os x, it's legal enough that I don't feel guilty in my book.

... You're kidding, right? I thought you'd link to an actual competitor, taking two glances at it and I'm saying, "Of course that's better".

It's well over twice as thick as a MacBook Pro. It's almost twice as heavy. It's made of flimsy plastic. It's a Windows laptop. Asus is an unreliable company with poor customer support.

Yes, in this scenario "better" isn't a strong enough word.

FYI Asus holds 70% of the market. Kind of odd for "unreliable", don't you think?

disgusting misrepresentation

I just went to the hp store link and customized a laptop as closely as possible to the low-end 15" MacBook Pro. The hp came out only 100 dollars cheaper, and the hp had a lower resoluton monitor and DDR2 RAM (MacBook Pro has DDR3). Apple doesn't make expensive hardware.

Plus HP are having a fire sale and giving you free RAM, free HD, free burner, the works...

I will never install a piece of apple software on my windows machines.

Well, I'm sure Mr Jobs won't lose any sleep over that revelation, especially when he compared iTunes on Windows to "like giving somebody a glass of ice water living in hell".

I have often found in comparison, that Apple software which is available on both Windows and the Mac, the Windows versions are more sluggish and not as responsive as their Mac counterparts.

This applies especially to Safari 3 and iTunes, in my opinion at least.

I've seen this as well.

Curious.

Especially when you consider that a) it's not true. http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/other/...able_Personal_Computers__Service_Company.html
Apple, Asustek and Lenovo Make Most Reliable Personal Computers – Service Company.
b) Asus has been the contract manufacturer for many models in the Apple line. (Though I am not sure if any are still made by Asus for this model year.)

Oh boy, here we go again.

Give me a break freaking people, 29 pages already?

Last time that I checked this is a free country and companies have a right to make commercials as long as they're not obviously lying.
