That doesnt explain how it makes it better. It makes it worse. Now consumers are forced to buy the MBP if they want to record on a mac laptop. Which is relevant. It shows that apple's limited lineup doesnt really help anyone but apple at the end of the day.

Its a good copmuter, but removing it doesnt make it better, which was the point. Once again, its not hard to understand.

I have yet to bash apple, try reading my posts and putting down the kool-aid (i've always wondered where that phrase came from, now that i think of it). I have, however, bashed some of the idiots here for acting like the idiots they are. I use both MS and Apple products, a synergy some morons here cant seem to figure out. Micrososft makes good stuff, Apple makes good stuff, but MS sticks up for themselves once and everyone acts like everything made since 1980 that doesnt have the apple logo is worthless. Its ****ing ridiculous and it just makes this forum look like a bunch of whiny mac snobs.

If someone thinks a HP lappy is a better deal it doesnt mean they are wrong, it just means they want something different out of their computer than you do. Some people cant afford to spend $2700 just to get a 17" screen, some people cant afford to spend $1300 on a laptop that only has 2gb memory (yes, its ddr3, but the performance perks are minute), some people just want to choose their hardware instead of having it be chosen for them. THAT DOESNT MAKE THEM WRONG, DAMMIT. How is this so difficult to understand?

Drinking the Kool-Aid comes from the incident with Rev. Jim Jones and his followers that blindly drank poisoned Kool-Aid resulting in mass suicide.

As for the rest of your statement, I have to agree. I use Apple and MS products because both companies make products that I find useful. I don’t understand why people take these commercials so personally. Don’t worship any corporation.

Otherwise, are you saying the Unibody Macbook isn't a very good product just because it lacks Firewire ?

if they took away usb and superdrive ohh thats ok, its a good product because is aluminum and have a apple logo. lol

eek. Thats a morbid phrase to be throwing around...

Exactly. Both apple and ms are just giant corporations. Neither give a flying crap about any of us. All they want to do is fill their wallets.

Geez... The Unibody Macbook was better because :

- Aluminium unibody design
- LED display
- nVidia graphics
- possibility of a backlit keyboard
- bump in specs accross the board
- Minidisplayport capable of Dual-link DVI vs DVI-D with mini-DVI.

Should I go on ? Just because they decided to remove 1 feature doesn't mean the product wasn't better. It just didn't answer the needs of the few who did want Firewire. I didn't, I couldn't care less what they did with the Firewire.

If they too away USB, it wouldn't fill my needs anymore, and I wouldn't buy it. If they could still sell it that way (which is doubtful), then it would probably be a better product anyway, just with a different niche in mind.

Same for the superdrive.

I'm not reading this thread.
Then why should we read your post?

People actually think that the average consumer is going to analyze this ad as much as you guys... they wont.
True.

These ads, just like Apples, focus on the average consumer. That's were the big $ are at. With the current economy, price is paramount for many so these ads hit home.

Who cares if they can't afford it, if they are so tight on money, they shouldn't be looking at Macs or maybe they should even save more money. My mom can't justify the price for macs but she still wants one, does that make macs crap because she can't afford one.

The days of buying all on specs is becoming irrelevant. These days things are being sold based more on the actual software instead of hardware. Go into an Apple store and the first thing they ask you is what do you want to do with your computer, what kind of software will you be using, they then try and find a computer for you. They don't go of asking about hard drive, ram, processor speed you need. Listen to what Palm recently said, they said these days everything is moving towards software and not just hardware. From phones to computers we are seeing this shift.

millions and millions of people can't be all wrong. Just look at enterprise Apple just can compete..

What about vista, how well is that doing in the enterprise, I mean people are willing to downgrade to XP from Vista, really good job Microsoft.

I´m very TACKY

To this price add a few more dollars for Anti-Virus, Software,... and even medical bills since using a PC is very likely to finish with headache.

After watching the add I observed one thing that makes me feel curious about it:

I´ve never been in the US but... have you got shopping centers where the tables are supported by lion statues?

In both adds the girl/guy finish in a quite ugly mall where he/she buy the PC. I am not saying that in Europe we have malls covered by gold but I never saw this dodgy lions. It might be only in the place where the PC´s are.

I think this guy should finish the add saying...

-I´m very tacky- not picky.

If you lost your job or are insecure in it, why are you buying a computer in the first place ? Maybe you should stick with what you have until things get better for you.

If you didn't lose your job and it's pretty secure, then guess what, not spending is the worse thing you can do. You should be helping the economy get back on its feet by spending your money.

You don't know every PC comes with firewire.

You are completely missing my point because you are too busy trying to cling to anything to defend apple. It was said that apple's limited line helps them make macs better every generation. This generation firewire was missing. That doesnt make it better. I dont give a flying **** if you use it or not, the fact that a feature is missing for no reason at all hurts a lot of customers like the recording crowd. If someone wants to have a mobile studio they now have to pay $2700 for the mbp. Yes, the other features are nice and add quite a bit of functionality, but none of them make fw obsolete or make it impossible to include fw on the mobo, so it can be concluded taht apple took fw out of the mb because their wallets wanted it. Whether they wanted to save the $10 (idk, sounded like a good number) per mobo to leave the chipset off or if they were just using it to convince people to buy the pro model is irrelevant. They removed features to save money and it doesnt help the consumer. Apple doesnt care about you, me, or the other several million osx users, they care about their wallets, just like every other corporation, so if we treat the like they are god they will keep doing things that dont help the consumers because htey know they can get away with it. And I KNOW!!! YOU dont use firewire, but this isnt all bout you, now is it?

next empty argument?

The ads are good. That HP the guy bought is a really nice machine for the price. I just hope that these ads will make apple think about offering better priced products that 'everyone' can afford.

But the statement that apple is 'not about power' but aesthetics is false!! Look at the specs of the mac and it is quite high. They are also high-end machines that are built to last! I wonder how that HP will be operating/looking in 12 months time.

It doesnt matter that they are not advertising 'Windows' exclusively. There is a little bit of 'microsoft' there but it is not necessary. Whatever machine you buy that is not a mac will come with windows. The point is moot! The first thing a person sees is the hardware. Most people are smart enough to realise that performance depends largely on your hardware, and it needs to look nice, which the HP is.

If Apple were smart they would offer more models that dont carry the hefty pricetag. Apple would sell massive numbers of units and then MS will have a serious problem. Netbooks sell like crazy because of the price. Take a hint Apple!!!

I love apple and i will always buy apple, mostly because of the software and to a lesser extent quality/look of hardware. But everytime i fork out the money it feels like i have forfeited one of my limbs for the privilege. Im NOT poor, i am quite well off actually, but that does not mean i throw my money around without a care.

Probably the most sensible post I have read on this topic.

I have a windows machine and I have a Mac as well.
Both are almost the same spec, but my Mac was 60% more expensive.
Macs are very pricey for what you get on the inside.

In my opinion, these ads can only do good for the consumer, and hopefully they can make Apple lower prices, or bring out a more varied spec of machines at variable prices.
But I think we know in our hearts Apple wont lower prices.
If a person wants a Macintosh they will save and get one.
If they want a Windows based machine they don't have to save as much.
But if someone has a budget they have to stick to (like in the ads), then I am sorry to say that Windows based machines will, for now, win almost every time.

Anyway, let the ads continue. For both MS and Apple.
I love the banter.

And firewire missing is only a problem if you need Firewire. If you don't, then it's a moot point. The Unibody Macbook was better than the previous whitebook/blackbook.

If you need Firewire, you just weren't in the niche for it anymore, hence why they kept the 999$ whitebook around.

Actually, it wasn't name-brand Kool-Aid, but rather Flavor Aid. But whatever it was, it contained cyanide, which I guess is really all that mattered. ;)

But here Microsoft isn't sticking up for itself so much as making itself look even more ridiculous...they're giving free advertising for Apple AND making customers who buy computers with their OS look as though they're settling for something that sucks. Which they sorta are. ;)

See my sig. Microsoft might as well just conclude their next ad with, "I'm a PC and I wanted that sleek, sexy, gorgeous Mac but had to settle for this piece of ****ING ****

Then why should we read your post?

I meant the first 25 pages of it. I'm not going to sift through all that whining just to say what I thought when I read the article on the front page. I have been reading from page 26 onwards, but I'm guessing it's very similar to the last 25 pages from what I've read so far.

All I was simply saying was that I might be repeating information, because I hadn't had a chance (not that I want to anyway) read the first 25 pages. I did leave a question mark in a few places in my post though if anyone wanted to point anything out, but I've formed my opinion... and it's solely prejudiced on him, he's the tool. Not Microsoft, not Apple, not firewire, not aluminium or plastic.

Why does everyone want to start a fight in here? (Rhetorical).

the macbook has a 1200x 800 so a 16 at 1366 x 768 isnt that impressive. though i will say my 19inch monitor at 1440 x 900 is just dandy

It's an advert. Who gives a ****. It you spent more time getting conficker off your computer and less time paying attention to this crap you would realise people will say Anything to sell anything.

Huh?

If you lost your job or are insecure in it, why are you buying a computer in the first place ? Maybe you should stick with what you have until things get better for you.
Sure.

However, maybe I have an older computer and need more power for what I need to do to help me get a job. :p

If you didn't lose your job and it's pretty secure, then guess what, not spending is the worse thing you can do. You should be helping the economy get back on its feet by spending your money.
There are many ways to help and spur the economy besides making a computer purchase. Investment in stocks, bonds and savings are one way. Purchase Real Estate or building a new home are another.

I agree with you 100% the members of this site have got way to much time on their hands! stop fighting about this stupid crap! who cares anymore? Apple / Mac / Windows who cares? its all stupid!
