In all fairness to Silverlight - it's raping my machine far less than flash would be right about now. Now if only they could figure out how to make the video fit the actual window size they've allocated for it on their page. I have scroll bars around the video window in Safari and the only fix would seem to be full-screening the stream.

Refresh the page again. I just got the player working. I was getting the scroll bars until just now.

I'm talking with some friends and they're impressed that Silverlight isn't causing their fans to spin up unlike Flash.

Thanks Eldorian, that did a trick! Got a fix for the music too? ;)

Edit: now my stream is dropping like crazy. Anyone else getting this problem?

it's not as mature as flash, but supposedly MS asked people what they wanted to change about flash and put it into silverlight

I had to drag the volume slider to maximum. The stream is getting hit hard. I get between 30 - 300 kB/s from it. Now that the keynote has started it's smooth though.

LagunaSol's head explodes.
Stand back everyone.

It actually seems to have calmed down now that they've gone "live"

Edit: lol, I've never seen Shapiro before, but already he's coming off as one of the most insincere people I've seen in a long time. I want me some Ballmer magic right about now (complete with profuse sweating, obviously)

Bing bing bing!

This is more like the Ballmer i know and love.

Is it me, or is it painful to watch? This is THE biggest computer company (right?) and it's just not compelling or exciting.. at all! (at least for me). I had such high expectations to see that Courier concept and this is soooo dull.

The press release was unleashed a bit too early, completely stealing his thunder.

For the few people who saw it, that is.

The vast majority of the minority who even care about CES will see the stories tomorrow, and the issue that the press release wasn't sync'd with the problems on stage won't matter.

The guys who control corporate IT budgets don't like excitement.

It's MS. That might sound too simplistic, but that's all that can be said. This is how they roll.

Is there really a thread on Macrumours commenting in real time on a Microsoft keynote? LagunaSol's head explodes.

Are you kidding? A Ballmer keynote is comedy gold! We wouldn't miss this for the world!

*pops popcorn*

UPDATE: Apparently Ballmer blew out the power at the venue when he plugged in his waffle iron backstage for a little pre-keynote snack. And here I thought he only ate computer users' souls...

It's no more or less than what I was expecting from Ballmer. I trust you're familiar with the "developers developers developers" video clip?

I don't *want* to hate on this, cos I honestly would like to see some real competition in the tablet market, but I can't help but notice how *everything* about this is more sterile and corporate than I'm comfortable with. Also, the camerawork seems really amateurish imo.

Did people actually expect MS to release that? *shakes head.*

I wasn't expecting a release.. or even really an actual product demo.. just more concept vids, it seemed pretty interesting. To me, seems like a REALLY niche product but just had some really cool ideas.
