This feels rather odd, taking your OWN product is one thing this is another. It's RT, no thanks, Pro yes.

what do they do with the iPads they get

It's for their new commercial...

People stupid enough to trade in an iPad for a Surface tablet, an RT at that, deserve the loss in functionality, apps choice and general frustration that will inevitably come with making this switch. I have no pity for them. They brought this up on themselves.

Does a car get any additional functionality every new model year? It does the same thing...get you to and from a place. Only engines, look, bells and whistles get upgraded really.

You're logic is really really bad.

The new Honda odyssey had a vacumn cleaner In it now. Besides that, what else can car add but better electronics, engines, safety features....it's not like its gonna fly or anything...

1) Most people don't buy a car every year
2) We aren't talking about cars

My logic would makes more sense if you knew the above. ;) and you'd know the above if you weren't a die hard apple enthusiast. Ice cream bars don't gain functionality either yet we buy more than one a year, most of us. But again, we aren't talking about ice cream either. I would suggest you learn a bit of logic before pretending to be an expert on the subject.

Most people don't buy new phones every year either. And those that do and can afford it are like those that lease/buy a new car every year.

For the majority, an iPad 1 is still sufficient.

Okay so they created terrible ads....no one can admit they are not embarrassing!

They then slash the prices.

Now they're offering to trade in iPads.

What next....give them away for free!!

Microsoft need to rethink their strategy and fast.

Seriously dude? What other functionality do you want it to do with today's technology? Actually, computers have had the same functions as many iterations. You don't like those either? And no, we don't buy iPads every year.

What are they doing with them at Microsoft? Using them for batting practice? Using them for toilet seats? Skeet shooting?

They are probably putting viruses on them and selling them on the black market, as a vicious ploy to ruin Apple's market share.

Seriously, rofl? Please don't tell me you're actually believing that.

I'll disagree with that one. The iPad 1 is really slow on basic browsing, has been ever since one of the iOS updates somewhere along the line. The iPad 2 was the point where it reached sufficient CPU speed to operate smoothly.

This is like the Kia Dealerships advertising they will gladly take your lightly used Mercedes Benz on trade-in....

The only real functionality I personally need on an iPad has more to do with the os. But I believe you're right it's a bit stupid that the iPad at its core has the same exact os as the iphone making its limitations equal to when it should be able to do more with all that extra power and screen real estate. I would prefer added features that make sense on a tablet but not on a phone but alas we must resort to the app store. This isn't just knocking on ios either android has this problem with not just core functionality but doubly so with apps. This is where the iPad shines, actual real tablet apps that allow u to do more than your smartphone. Now why can't we have that with the core OS? I understand there are potential problems with fragmentation but I like the idea of splitting the tablet from the smartphone OS much like ios was split from OSX. That's why to me a tablet is a waste of money and why I don't own one.
