Uh, you do realize you have other ways to get apps than the Google Play store, right? Not so with Apple.
“Apple‘s profit margin must grow a thousand fold unhindered!” That’s what I see from ”debates” in similar thread.
Here is the thing, Apple won’t grow to what they are today if we don’t let them.

Apple already allows apps that serve up digital content to exist in the store without offering IAP. There is no rational for why Spotify and Netflix can do this but Microsoft can. And Phil Schiller wouldn’t be able to provide one because there isn’t one.
Apple shouldn't have to provide a rationale for wanting to do business with some but not others.

If this doesn't work for either their customers or their developers, then Apple will suffer in the marketplace. This idea that everything in business has to be fair to everyone else is simply nonsense. I have clients I choose to do work for and clients I choose to not do work for.

Apple has a business model that works for them. That's really the end of the story.

I think apple does a straight-up sh*t job maintaining the App Store, so what are they doing with all their income? It's full of scamware, pay-to-play, ripped-off, casino-knockoff BS.

It's needs a serious, and I mean big, overall rebuild. The App Store SUCKS, so sorry if I don't give them the benefit of the doubt.
And you're still here why?

…and they act as if they “own” (access to) to that customer base, monetising it as they please.

One of my businesses is a group of small boutique hotels. I own the list of customers I've developed over the years. I would not give that list away for free to anyone.

This is basic econ 101 in a system of market economics. I understand if you don't believe in market economics, but it is silly to make such statements.

This is a poor and increasingly tired analogy. Best Buy owns their building so they decide what goes in it.

There is no analogy needed. This is market economics 101, and I for one and am not shilling for a large corporation. I'm in support of a fundamental economic philosophy that many on these threads seem to not understand very well.

Microsoft shouldn't complain too loudly, lest the regulators come for the Xbox Store, where they take a 30% cut from developers.

I mean, why do you guys think they want exclusives so badly?

Sony and Nintendo are no different. I fail to see the difference. If you want Apple to stop, then they all need to stop.

Regulations across multiple regions will force Apple to change a lot in the software and app store.

This is a laugh from Microsoft. They were the trendsetters in 2008 before the iPhone Store first came out with their 70% App Store fees. Apple pushed them down to 30% by setting a new trend that had rave reviews from everyone for how cheap their 30% fees were. Now Apple is being slammed for not changing their fees for large customers by a company that also charges 30% fees on their App Store. Hypocrites. If they want Apple to cut their fees, I say, you first Microsoft. Until then they have no leg to stand on. How come they don’t think 30% is too much for game companies to pay them?

So Microsoft, just like Spotify and Epic and others, want Apple to provide their platform for free and if Apple says no then they go and whine like my five year old to the playground monitor that "They're not fair!" or "Becuz monopoly!!" Give me break. I really wish Cook would finally balls up and tell them and the EU to go pound sand.
I assume that you own Apple stocks? Because you sure don’t sound like a self aware consumer.

Microsoft is huge in gaming what even are you talking about?
If that were the case then why are Xbox sales completely flat lining? If Microsoft as a name is such a big pull in all markets, especially gaming why is the PS5 so far ahead in sales and user base?

30% just doesn’t really work with a service like this, unless they charge 30% more if it gets booked through the appstore. But then it will be too expensive.

What makes me laugh is everyone is picking on Apple for their 30% take totally forgetting how much Google take on the thier App Store……. It’s 30% by the way.
Also would like to point out….. Microsoft’s own App Store takes 30% of games sales.
This whole bashing just Apple for their cut they take whilst all the others are doing it needs to stop.
Then add in the Fact Microsoft are moaning about what Apple take, whilst taking the exact same cut on their own sales platform.
Kinda a joke really. But yes let’s all bash Apple whilst not relising they are all doing the exact same thing at the same %.
Even users here on a Apple forum are totally clueless. Microsoft do the same but whine at Apple.

Why do you require a complete redesign every few years? I see no reason to change the iPhone design at this point. It took them a few years to get form factor down, now we are good.
Yep. They‘ve achieved design perfection. No need for any further innovation from the world’s richest company. They should just sit back and do next to nothing for half a decade…

Why don’t Microsoft just release the app and enable subscription via the App Store, App Store subscribers would pay more for their subscription to enable both companies to take their cut.

Those of us in the know would subscribe directly with Microsoft and save money. Just as it is now with various other apps.

It’s a shame that some unwitting customers would end up paying more, but if they are willing to pay then it’s not exactly a moral argument. Some stores charge more for the same product, people shop around, it’s business.

Apple can say the same thing too ...."Due to Microsoft charging 30% commission fee, Apple Arcade will not be successful on Xbox".
