That is an issue but the biggest issue they all have **** designs and run **** Windows. So it won’t make a difference to Apple users or the Apple company.
While Microsoft reasonably cleaned up Windows 10 by Release 22H2, I have my doubts about new version of Windows 11 with its AI features. And it's still saddled with some of the more frustrating things about Windows, too.

Microsoft has a huge advantage over Apple in the race for a faster PC. Microsoft does not make 90% of their money from cell phones. Apple is a cell phone company that has some other minor products. So Apple when they design a CPU has to think about what is best for the phone, then they put some variation of the phone chip on the Mac.

But if you remove the design constraint that the chip has to work in a phone, you can build a MUCH faster chip. Others have server-grade ARM chips. Yes, they can use a lot more power, but few people care how much power a desktop PC uses.

Again, Apple sells a lot more notebooks than desktops so if Apple does make a computer chip it is going to slanted for notebooks and battery life over raw power.
MS mostly makes software and is barely even a player "...in the race for a faster PC." The idea that "Microsoft has a huge advantage over Apple in the race for a faster PC" is IMO absurd.

What matters is the price of the chip. Qualcomm is competing with the M2 and M3 and M4. Those are Apple's high end laptop chips (in $2000 15" Macbooks). It is not a low end tablet class chip.

This is not hard if you are honest with yourself. I want the best laptop I can buy for <$1500 and don't care about any product that costs more than that. Qualcomm is beating the M3 Pro laptops in some things for $500-$1000 less with the same specs.

The main thing is I can buy 32GB ram and 1TB of storage in a $1500 laptop with ARM finally. Something we wanted Apple to do but they are too interested in ripping off people with 8GB of ram and no storage.
??? I was comparing the Elite chip laptop with the MacBook Air because they're priced the same. I agree the pricing is what matters, and it matches. Maybe in your country it doesn't?

That article says they'll settle. And they are supplier and customer. So it makes sense to settle.

But the real question for me, is that now there is decent competition against AMD and Intel. We've wondered about Intels continual talk on Ultra etc., but its progress has been slow. Now there is more incentive to get going. Otherwise, who knows what might happen?

Concerning Apple and monopolies - IMO Apple would like to have a monopoly. They can't get one though, but at least, they try to monopolise their customers into having more than one Apple device. The Apple watch for instance could be setup without requiring an iPhone. I find that disappointing indeed. It's that philosophy of wanting to own a customer that I disagree with. I want customer focus. For instance, an iPad that can run all Apple OS software. And because of that attitude, I will likely get my wife's replacement computer something with a Qualcomm chip.

it’s sad to see Apple doubling down on denying macOS access to the iPad while dragging their feet on fixing the issues with ipadOS that make it struggle at higher end workflows. File system and working in the background without jetsam. I would also add side loading and multi-window workflows need to be improved. The easiest way many of us see that working is macOS but a Craig already said he doesn’t want a windows 8 iPad during the Talk Show interview.

This leaves Microsoft a chance to do what they do and keep working an issue until they get it. Either via surface or with a partner like Samsung and their built in Wacom digitizer plus these new chips.

That said we should appreciate how much things have improved since 2018 we got stage manager, an improved stage manager, more ram access for apps that need it, davinci, Final Cut , Logic. Zbrush is coming. Playgrounds, procreate dreams. The affinity suite isn’t new but is still fantastic and I prefer using Photomater on iPad over Mac. (Logic and Final Cut used to be the holy grail everyone waited for it arrived and we still complain bc it only exposed what else was missing).

In a way Apple either needs to fix the problem or fix how they’re messaging around the iPad and do it in a big way. Otherwise Apple is just making the iPad Pro so Microsoft can sell the surface as an iPad Pro that works.

Yes, and I reckon Apple thinks they have locked in the customers so they can continue to protect their notebooks from IOS competition. Windows does both, maybe not as well, but at least, one surface or equivalent does both tasks.

The few benchmarks ive seen it is indeed true. Apple needs to get on the ball with the MacBook Air M4

It’s certainly true for multi-core (and won’t be any more with the M4), but in many cases, the M3 will feel faster, due to much higher single-core. Also, there’s no fanless machine with the SX, which suggests it overall generates more heat.
