Apple needs to get with the program. MS makes a silly little ad that's cutting and sadly true.

At least MS learns from their (numerous) missteps. I don't even imagine Apple ever has thought iOS is a mistake. Rather a 'work in progress'; one that at this rate will never be completed.

iPad needs a more mature OS.

Too bad that is completely untrue. If your W10 computer is an unreliable disaster, it's all on you. You either bought a piece of crap computer to begin with, or you downloading too many "free" things from the internet.

The truth is, W10 is one of the best, most reliable versions of Windows 10. But, feel free to post links to mainstream IT sites who say W10 is a disaster. I'd be interested in what I must be doing right for my clients who have completely a trouble-free W10 experience. As a matter of fact, one client that is mixed Mac and Windows, the Mac users have far more issues than the Windows users. Far more.
lol yeah. idk what macfather dude is smoking. W10 is probably their best OS ever and its worked perfectly on my productivity windows machine. Not a single issue for years through many component upgrades and OS updates. Literally everyone loves it.

Microsoft's proficiency at marketing is poor at best, and it shows.
People who wanted an iPad won't even bother with the Surface products. The Surface products are for regular Windows laptop users/buyers who wants a laptop with clean windows in them by Microsoft, or for brand status symbol (the Surface has become a "cool" brand for many).

The one killing the Surface products are Chromebooks. People are finding out that they don't actually need a full desktop OS, and a browser OS actually works for most. It is hilarious when Microsoft is trying to compete with Apple, who is not even in the same category, while ignoring Google biting off their marketshare bit by bit with Chrome OS.

Similar to Samsung's approach, it won't help. The Surface won't sell because it's an okay laptop and a crappy tablet. I don't really see any comparison between the two, so this feels pretty desperate. In the end, use what works best for task at hand.
Seems to me this ad isn’t designed to increase sales but to get hits on tech/rumor sites. I’m sure the Verge comments section is overflowing with fanboy flame wars as we speak.

If only Apple would design a keyboard for iPad with a fully integrated touchpad like the Surface Pro/Go has!

Irrespetive of any views about Microsoft vs Apple, and Tablets vs Laptops, and iPads vs Surface's.

Virtually every single one of the in depth reviews, both online, and in the many tech podcasts said over and over again the exact same thing:

"The hardware of the latest iPad's is totally stunning. The power, and overall quality of the device is amazing in every way. However THE BIGGEST problem, and it's so obvious, even more now is iOS. It's just ridiculous, and so limiting to have a blown up phone OS on such an amazing and powerfully device as the current iPads, and Apple REALLY needs to do something about this now, as it's just crazy given it's sheer power, that it's being held back by the OS"

Come on Apple, everyone, even your most loyal fans, can see this now.
iOS was good enough years ago, on the 1st few iPads. But now, they deserve YOU to move on, and make iPads devices that can become what so many want them to be.

I totally have to agree with you- and I AM one of Apple's most loyal fans.

They're not wrong, sometimes you do need a "real computer". I cannot imagine trying to do my work (software development) on an iPad, that would be real torture.

I agree that sometimes you need a real computer, but a surface go is not that. It is a tablet, you cant even install a 3rd party browser on it - it is even more restrictive than an iPad

Yes, I'm interested in what you're doing right as well. While I'm not in the IT industry, I have several friends who are, and I truly have never hear ANY of them say that. True, at the end of the day, there isn't THAT much of a difference between windows & Mac OSs, but I've only heard of far less IT intervention requests for Mac users.

And this is why there are rumors that Microsoft is making a lite version of Windows that might not even be called Windows. Where is their ad going after Chromebooks? Isn’t that their bigger competition?

I do not know what is worse, one runs smooth, stable and fluid, but mobile OS, and other runs horrible, but desktop OS.

If I was forced to choose one to be my main computer for everything, and I had to use that only, I would choose Surface, and begin the abusive relationship with it.

i see the ipad as more of a complimentary device meaning there has to be a desktop somewhere. the ipad is great for games and casual internet and email use. it is not in the discussion as a replacement for a laptop or a desktop replacement.

as you say, give the pro line a desktop os and now we're talking...

I have never been able to be productive on an iPad. I've ended up just using my iPad as a newspaper device. It's such a waste, but that's literally all I can do on it without screaming in frustration.

I can do everything I need on a Surface Go, albeit with a smaller display. I wish it had a full-sized USB port, though. It's a great device, especially at the price point.

People have purchased and still buy iPads / iPhones purely for the same reason as you point out - because it's a 'cool' brand. Not sure what point you're trying to make here. Apple is very much fashion brand.

A lot of people who buy iPads for tasks such as web browsing and email could also just buy Chromebooks instead and be very happy with them.

That is completely untrue. Although it ships with Windows 10 in S mode, it can be switched to Windows 10 Home or Pro with ease, enabling you to install whatever you want.

It's the iPad that is locked down - so-called 3rd party browsers are just wrappers for Safari and still refuse to display many desktop sites. You can't even change the default browser, for crying out loud.

I use both an iPad Pro and a Dell tablet for work, and although my Dell tablet is a great laptop, its not a true tablet experience like the iPad. Both devices have their strengths and weaknesses so its sort of arrogant to assume one device is superior to the other.

Too bad W10 is still an unreliable disaster.

I use W10 every single day at work, and so does my entire government agency. It's working very well, it's the only Windows system that I truly liked with the notable exception of XP. Since we switched from 7 to 10 our productivity increased and our problems are virtually gone.
(I own and use Macbooks, iPhones, and iPP 12.9)

I prefer the iPad's tablet experience to Microsoft Windows 10's tablet experience though. But I agree the "real" computer experience of the Windows 10 on the Surface Pro is true. You can actually connect a portable drive to it and run full desktop applications.

This is pretty much what I tell friends who can't believe that I went to the "dark side" and got a Surface (Pro3). Apple by far has the best "tablet" experience on the iPad. I have the 10" Pro and really like it. However, as a developer I need to be able to run software that isn't available on the iPad (Eclipse, YourKit, etc...), so for my "laptop replacement" rather then getting a new MBP, I picked up a Surface.

It's old and only has 8gb of ram but allows me to work when away from my desktop. I'm waiting to see what updates MS offers in a supposed refresh next year before upgrading to a newer model.

I still use my 2012 rMBP occasionally, but have largely replaced it with the Surface. My primary machine is still (for now) a 2013 Mac Pro.

Edit: Also, as for Windows 10. I haven't really had any issues with it. Upgrades have gotten a lot better over Windows 8. I don't find W10 to be any less stable then macOS (which had crashed during my first 10.14 upgrade attempt).
