MS IS DEAD. AND BURIED SIX FEET UNDER BY APPLE'S MIGHT.

Best smartphone on the planet: iPhone;
Best media players on planet: iPods;
Best OS on the planet: Mac OS X;
Best digital media and apps store: iTMS/App Store;
Best personal computers: Macs.

Bring it on, MS. You fail again.

Are you being serious? I won't disagree with your assessments of Apple products, but Microsoft is far from dead and buried. You don't have the kind of marketshare and customer base that Microsoft has and be on death's doorstep.

This is AWESOME news! It can only lead to further market inroads by Apple against MSFT and windoze.

It's one thing to compare MSFT's crappiness in your minds eye to a mac. But to do it side by side... Just, Wow - this has to be one of the stupidest things MSFT's ever done.

Microsoft or 3M?

maybe Microsoft should just admit they're more of a marketing threat to 3M, who claims they don't build great products, but make great products better. honestly, when was the last time Microsoft had an original idea to market? is it fair to say that piggy-backing off the success of others is a terrible way to grow in the market? God I wish they'd just bankrupt already so we wouldn't have to read about their lame, and desperate attempts to keep up with the times.

That, and, I hate to say it, but Windows 7 isn't too bad. Mind you, not as good as Snow Leopard, but after using it for 3 months, it isn't near as bad as it could be.

I'll go to one if one opens up in LA.

I'm curious to see just exactly what they have in their plans that would even convince them to try such a thing.

I could see them setting up a Bose style MS media center room oriented around the 360 and showing how to stream media from your computer to your xbox etc. etc. If they had it include a Natal demo., that would definitely be worth checking out in person.

Until they actually open a store, it would really be hard to decide if it's going to fail or not - even if you're doubting it all.

Pathetic attempt of Microsoft to do what? This kind of behavior is that of 4 year old children. Pfff The image of MS is deminishing

My prediction: like the recent TV ads, these stores won't be nearly AS bad as Microsoft's usual efforts, and so reviewers/bloggers will praise them widely. Obscure corners of the Internet (dare I say the one I'm in now?) will praise and criticize them. The products showcased will be flawed, and Apple's strengths will remain strengths. And in the end, the effect of these stores on people's buying habits will be minimal.

Obviously one of the MS execs saw their Laptop Hunters commercials on TV one night and actually thought it was real and came up with the genius idea to go head to head against Apple.

Dumb and dumber. They won't make any money and won't dent Apple mindshare.

That's not the point, or do you actually believe that every Apple store is profitable? Some might be, but there are certain areas they cover where it is impossible to compensate for the rent (NY and London come to mind). The idea is that those stores will create more revenue in total than what it costs to subsidize them...

I'm eager to see what MS will perform in this field. Maybe we'll be surprised in a positive way ;)

I can't wait to go to their store and play with Word.

LOL! :D

Well you know, they need to do something to drum up business, after giving Office 2010 away for "free" online.

I can't wait to read the news on the day they decide to shut down these wannabe stores, because they were a bad marketing move.

We should be thanking M$ for burning their own money to help revitalize the economy. ;)

Such a fanboy comment.

Maybe Apple do make the best products, i have a macbook pro myself, but MS has still got a massive market share that no one can deny.

When Apple loosen up their EULA and allow OS X to be installed on PCs then we'll see if MS dies. Until that day forget it.

Declaring MS dead is just an idiotic statement.

"sweet"

this is cool. I'd be down to check one out.

A place 2 learn about the features of your W7? Microsoft Store.

A place 2 replace your red ring of death X360? Microsoft Store!

A place 4 Microsoft Bros to feel trendy and cool, like they're in an Apple Store? Microsoft Store!

I could definitely see them making money with this too. What if they tried to actually be retailers and compete with BestBuy and co? that would be a conundrum for sure!

I hope they offer technical support at these stores. They will never have time to do anything besides help people with there crappy windows products

but why? what are they going to have that is special that would make people go there instead of any other pc selling shop? The reason apple stores are so popular seems to me to be that they are first of all very different to most shops selling a product that a lot of people are genuinely curios about, and also a product that is not widely sold everywhere you look!

How cute, a little Apple puppet. You would make a perfect posterboy - hell you would even follow them off a cliff.

Says the blind 90% Microsoft market share masses shackled by spyware-ridden, bloated crapware.

Lemmings who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I think that blue walls would be an appropriate choice, with monospaced white lettering :D

Nice!

I can never decided what's more amusing, super fanboys -or- people that consider themselves to be some sort of message board sheriff hired to attack fanboys the second they open their mouths. If what they are saying is so ridiculous and silly, why even waste energy replying? It's just funny...

But as to the subject, I think it's a great move for Apple. I think it will show Microsoft folks an easier side by side comparison of the two companies. The store will most likely not be as stylish as an Apple store, resulting in a few more people choosing Apple just simply because their stores are better. Whether subconsciously or not, I really can see it happening.
