No, I have 5 email accounts coming to my iPhone and I get take any one of them off if I want, including my .Mac account.

If you mean the greater Apple universe of products I feel I have more choice because I'm running OSX and W7 on my iMac.

Oh, you are talking about email syncing

"But Foster said there's a chance the average office worker could take a fancy to the platform and bring WP7 into the enterprise by the back door. WP7 devices will come with Microsoft Office Mobile, Exchange and SharePoint integration, he noted, and the platform also supports multiple email accounts and calendars. "There's a lot of functionality to facilitate a business person's activities," claimed Foster."

Too bad I can't legally run OSX with W7 on my Dell - it's not Microsoft, Dell, or virtualization preventing me from doing so... so much for choice :(

Can we put anything not Apple related on Page 2 and save page 1 for "Mac" "rumors"?

Then page 2 would become the main page, since there are very few stories about Apple computers lately.

But it seems to be a good idea, since your plan would eliminate all of the Itoy stories (they're Apple-related, so they don't go on page 2 - but they're not "Mac" rumours so they don't go on page 1).

Wait, so all those patent lawsuits against Apple means they are cheating too ?

More proof that Google has the industry running scared of the green little robot.
Keep on drinking the Green koolaid.

Apple licensed a bunch of stuff from MSFT including Activesync while Google has not.

I always insisted that Microsoft and Apple will not stand by and watch a glorified search engine company get too big for their boots.

Those two will stand shoulder to shoulder if need be to put this mob in their place.

I still find it amusing that a company with a search engine, a smartphone OS, a respectable but nowhere near perfect browser, and intrusive maps can be considered a "technological giant".

If I see one of their ****** little camera vans come down my street again, it's getting caught at the next red light. It angers me no end that these arseholes think they can record MY home without my permission and post it on the internet for everyone to see.

But wait, I hear you cry, any faces or license plates on cars are edited. Yes, they are ... but somewhere, on Google's servers, there are unedited versions of all those photos. And that makes me very uncomfortable. I don't trust Google, regardless of them having the best search engine on the web.

+1

Patent bust-ups happen every other day, and this doesn't even directly involve Apple.

This is very serious to everyone in the post-pc world, because it was HP who bought Palm, and Nokia who owns Symbian, yet MS is claiming fundamental patents on things used in the PDA industry for 20 years now.

This is analogous to suing someone for creating hardware that runs apps, or integrating phone ability into a PDA.

Right now Android is the biggest threat to Apple's dominance, so viewers of this thread might enjoy the lawsuit. But none of us want to see mediocre OSes like Windows Mobile forced on us out of the old FUD attack that if you use open source you'll get sued. That's why so many companies, like IBM and HP, formed giant legal funds to protect users of Linux from frivolous lawsuits.

No one ever seems to use the "non-obvious" clause or "prior-art" clause anymore when granting patents. Sigh.

I think I need to change careers and become a patent troll/lawyer. I would work less and sleep more...

Which ones? I don't see any other major phone competitors (other than Nokia) suing Apple. I certainly think Apple has benefitted from Nokia's R&D and I imagine they will reach a settlement at some stage.

But this story is about Android and Microsoft.

Microsoft is suing over patents. But Oracle is suing for a clear-cut Java license agreement violation. Google uses the non-compliant Dalvik VM, the Java license requires 100% compliance, therefore Google is in violation.

Ironic that Microsoft paid Sun $20 million for a similar violation. Unfortunate for Google that Oracle (who now owns Sun and Java along with it) doesn't give a crap about money. Larry Ellison wants blood, and he's going to get it. No way for Google to buy their way out of this one.

+1 (come on I've been a member for years and only used it once).

Everyone should understand this. You have completely nailed it.

Time to stop this nonsense and kill the patent system. It is massively abused. Patents on software, life, house designs, fashion, etc should not be allowed. Kill the trolls.

MS musta been feeling left out and wanted to join the party before launching WP7.

 sounds good at first, but that is a terrible idea

Software code is as much art as a painting is. Those that take the time to generate it should have their work protected for a limited amount of time so they may enjoy the benefits of their work.

I'm sorry, but Android is much more Of a mediocre OS than winphone 7. I gotta hand it to MS, as someone who's always hated them, they've actually designed something quite nice and attractive. And MS has much more experience running a platform than Google, Googles inexperience with running an OS has certainly shown.

Well, they've just announced that Windows Phone 7 will have a licensing cost for handset manufacturers because they will cover liability for patent lawsuits :

http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/article/362876/patent_protection_key_windows_phone_license/

This suit seems to be just to drive the point home that "hey, don't go for Android, use our stuff and you'll be safe from us... err.. those patent things!". Motorola was probably picked because other handset manufacturers that use Android also ship Windows Mobile units (HTC, Sony Ericsson, Samsung) right now, and suing your own partners is never good for business.

Microsoft came to a patent licensing agreement with HTC earlier this year which covers their android phones. Google have licensed active sync from Microsoft for gmail, but I suspect they've left it to phone manufacturers to license itbthemselves if they want to use active sync on Android. Looks like Motorola may have forgotten to do it.
This isn't a Microsoft vs android story at all because some manufacturers such as HTC are fully licensed. It's a Microsoft vs Motorola argument.

Are you kidding me? You being on an Apple forum, I would expect you to at least have a bigger understanding and appreciation for "design." Software, code, houses, or clothes don't design themselves, and the people who do should get what theyre due for their work.

Is there a mass outbreak of poor reading comprehension today. Once you sign in to a hotmail account with a windows phone you are locked into it, that account gets paired to your windows phone permanently. The only way to change that is a master reset on the phone.

I agree, a lot of people aren't going to like reading this on these boards, but the cold harsh facts are Microsoft are a far better company at building viable platforms and eco systems than almost all of their competitors.

I think this is very much related to apple/mac/iphone echo system. Glad that I belong to apple echo system than microsoft or google system.

I do like google when it comes to their search, and other technological advancements. But when it comes to business ethics, google and microsoft is far worse than apple. Also, since MS and google spends so much on various world government lobbying, their business practices have far more reaching impact, extends even to our future generation.

so this affects Apple/Mac users indirectly (almost all tech companies).

But they can do it as there's no law preventing it. I can take pictures of you and you house so long as I'm on a public highway and use the image for editorial use.

Microsuit sounds a little insecure these days.

They hook and crook it kinda like the good ol' days of Gates' techno-foolery.
