I plan on starting a business and using Microsoft 365 for everything (including Teams). I've done a bit of searching, and I'd be interested in hearing why Slack is better than Teams.
Slack and others are probably sexier but If you're starting up and on a budget - M365 is a pretty good value. Not sure you'll do better when comparing all that is available w/ monthly cost per user.

I probably only used Microsoft Teams one time on my M1 MBP back August of 2021 for a job interview and orientation. After that, I primarily use MS Teams on my Windows desktop at work and my iPhone.

THANK YOU! i'm on 1.5.00.21558 now.
That's the latest continuous deployment build. What's the difference between:
continuous deployment build
exploration build
preview build

I see all 3 of these are Silicon. So if I'm looking for a silicon version that is stable, which one should I get?

It's unbelievable how broken Microsoft Teams' auto updating is. You tell it to update, it says you have the latest version if you don't.

I just downloaded the latest build and it's 1.5.00.21558 -- If you're behind this, you're running an old version and should update.

Or, use Webex. It's had native Apple Silicon support for a long time and does not run on top of Electron.
The video and call feature is the part I use the least in Teams I'd say. It's the chat, file sharing, team organising, task management and so on that makes Teams probably our most used tool today at work. Slack arguably does all that better, but the connection Teams have with the rest of the Office suite makes it very hard to beat.

I went with "URLs for the latest preview build of Microsoft Teams:"

I imagine this has to be more stable than the "exploration build" and "continuous build" lol.

lol my ms team crapped out so bad 2 days ago i had to get the entire marketing department on discord to talk to me.
I get you here. One other dev here and maintain our own Slack chat still because of how flaky Teams has been. We even had another dev (not in my group, on Windows) who had to get a new laptop to use Teams. It didn’t like his laptop and IT / Microsoft could not get it to recognize his mic / video. Slack/Zoom worked fine for years however 🤷🏻‍♂️

Same thing here: audio driver still needing Rosetta

Also, I think Teams is one of the biggest sales boosters for Macs with 16 GB of RAM.
I wish. The standard issue Mac at my company is an M1 Air with 8 GB of RAM. It's frustrating, especially when I'm working with big excel files.

Ooh, a native Teams Electron build? Flying excrement is still excrement.

I've had the misfortune to be compelled to use Teams, and after using Zoom for videoconferencing it feels like stepping back a decade or two.

With all the IP Microsoft has—Skype, their own in-house video CODEC people, etc., etc.—Microsoft should be badly embarrassed by Teams' audio/video quality. (To say nothing of the execrable UX, but that's just Microsoft SOP.)

If you are trying to use a military CAC card, the US Military doesn't support Teams and CAC logins on personal computers only on Military computers and military networks.
Works on every other Office 365 program via the web even the web version of Teams works using a CAC. Only the standalone Teams app has the issue…

Companies use Teams because it comes along with Office. No one would ever compare Teams against Slack and decide to use Teams.

This is our generation's Word or Internet Explorer. Or even Windows itself. This sentence has been said about many a product category Microsoft bulldozed their way into over the years.

I have to use it as its work tool. I use on Mac mini and m1 mbp…never had an issue so not sure what the going native will bring

If anyone can explain that would be good

I think you mean almost 2 years later.. the first Apple silicon Mac shipped to customers in November 2020.
Microsoft for sure would have been able to get the dev Mac Minis a year before release, like everyone else did. Meaning they likely had 3 years or more time.
