I forget about third party keyboards because Apple implemented them so poorly in iOS 8 so I just gave up trying. So now I read they're still terrible in iOS 9? Would have thought they would be fixed by now. I thought iOS 9 was the big bug fixer. I'm not sure if I've ever seen any one core feature of an iOS update implemented so poorly and never fixed by Apple. They just really don't care, do they?

Double tap, but keep your finger down on second tap. Then you can zoom in/out by moving your finger. On Android many apps can zoom in/our this way.
The kind of innovation Apple used to do.

But I really came here to say that I think another thing holding the 3rd party keyboards back is you can't use them w/ the screen locked. When I'm replying to a text for instance.

Had no idea. That's an awesome function.

I'm liking the new direction Microsoft is taking. It's a very different company than it was under Ballmer...
Think they finally got some developers developers developers de...I'll show myself out

More options is a good thing . This does look impressive though.

Well done Microsoft on your new focus, you appear to be an exciting company to watch once more.

Bringing 3rd party keyboards? well that's interesting..... but how 'bout first fixing your 'same experience on every platform?'

where is power pivot in Excel? 64 bit excel? better ODBC connection and SQL editor? skype for business? even ms visio?

That keyboard will not persuade me to use more microsoft apps...on the contrary, if that's priority...

That's a really clever idea... I'm looking forward to trying it out!

Glad to see it has a left-handed mode too.

Reminds me of the old Nokia 7610. But no ability to change hand preference back then, ha.

Third-party keyboards have not yet been widely adopted on iOS devices due to ongoing issues with slowness, crashing, and other bugs

It's crazy how a grid of rectangles is so problematic to implement. I'm still not seeing any keyboards with dedicated keys for special characters for foreign languages. No matter what language you speak, you're still forced to use an english keyboard (I mean no accented letters such as ö ü í é á ő Ű ç etc...) for some reason, as other characters are hidden behind tap-and-hold popup menus. How are you meant to type when half of the characters require you to press and hold keys and fiddle with menus?

Pretty exciting to try out this! Loved the keyboard on my Windows Phone.

What I've been hearing is that if you can't provide a way to reproduce a problem again and again, then Apple won't deal with the issue. And that's been the problem with the keyboards. Sometimes they don't appear in Spotlight, sometimes it's Safari, sometimes it's in another app. That indicates there's a problem, but you have to have something that's constantly the same result again and again to narrow things down more.

Only the other week did the guy who made Nintype figure out something: https://www.reddit.com/r/nintype/comments/41ioey/consistent_way_to_trigger_nonpopup_in_92/

Nice find. Glad to see people are still trying. You are right that it is indeed super hard to reproduce. Hopefully they can nail it soon, because there are many people who do keyboards way better than Apple.
