Anyone remember how Jon Stewart outed Jim Cramer for making up rumors to manipulate the market? That's kind of what I feel is going on now. Someone at Verizon is about to sell a lot of stock, and they want their best bang for the buck...

I agree completely with thejadedmonkey. I was thinking that when I read the "iPhone Lite" story this morning, when the Verizon man said he had "talks" with Steve Jobs but didn't say what they were about, but "someone else" said it was about an iPhone. Total rumour, but someone really wants these rumours to be well circulated. I'm too new to Apple to know if they would come out and flatly deny these stories; I'm guessing not?

ZUNE PHONE!

I am curious to see what MS comes up with. Ugly, sure. Plasticy, you bet. Crappy interface, yep. Laden with software problems, absolutely. Cheap, no doubt...until you weigh up all the extras you need to make it work half decently.

Bring it on Microsoft ... your company doesn't know how to deliver across the stack. Stick to software.

Apple is a company that can deliver and end-to-end solution.

These guys can't make up their minds, they said they want their software on all phones, now they want to make their own phones, lol.

Seems like ironic timing to me....

I like that apple has broke open a new market for phones and will have all sorts of interesting new ideas come into the phone market.

but I've never really heard of MSFT developing a phone itself...it muttered about it maybe once or twice but nothing give that it will actually go forth with.
I think the competition of Apple vs Microsoft...just isnt what it was maybe 5-10years ago...so it seems kind of funny someone is just going to throw out MSFT battling against Apple in a phone market...only place I see MSFT dueling with apple anymore is in small devices like mice & keyboards.

Besides MSFT is practically on phones anyway...so generally theyre already on verizon and alot of other markets...what will their phone bring that they dont already offer with their software plus the manufactured phones.
I mean they could possibly alienate the companies that use their mobile software or try to make them develop their hardware more around their newer software...either way I'd never purchase a windows based phone from them or with their software.

In a brief report (subscription required), The Wall Street Journal claims that Microsoft and Verizon are in talks to launch an iPhone rival in early 2010. MarketWatch summarizes the report: Similar to Google's Android platform, Microsoft will reportedly work with a third party who will manufacture the device, but Microsoft will play an integral role in design and development.

Verizon has been linked to several rumors regarding the iPhone from mainstream news sources in recent days, first with renewed claims that the iPhone may be making its way onto the carrier's network sometime next year, and earlier today with rumors that Apple and Verizon are developing two new products, an "iPhone lite" and a larger "Media Pad", also slated for release as early as 2010.

What can I say for this...hmm...my signature will tell all I guess:D

HTC from Taiwan will be making the MS phone

HTC, is a 100% Taiwanese owned and located company, and I predict that they will be the third party designing and making the MS phone.

HTC is making phones for pretty much every big player but Apple, they are huge.

The fact is nothing that comes out of microsoft is actually good.

A bit harsh and simply not true. MS has a lot of brilliant engineers and programmers. The problem isn't on Microsoft's technical side, it's on the management side. Products being rushed to market before it's ready (it took 2 service packs to fix XP and who knows how many to get Vista working right). The Mac Business Unit's Office X was a great product. Management probably forced them to bloat it up and water it down in later versions. MS makes fantastic development software, but then only developers benefits from that and not the consumers.

IMO, what MS needs to churn out great products is to get rid of management and let the programmer run the show or at least have final word.:cool::cool: Yes, let the loonies run the madhouse.;)

I'm no fan of Microsoft but let's be fair. Microsoft showed great innovation with the GUI-based operating system by making it run on a wider selection of hardware. That was an innovation that Apple famously refused to pursue and, for that, Microsoft rightly gets credit for introducing the world to the GUI. Was that not an innovative move?

You might want to look up the word "innovation" in the dictionary. Pushing your product in everybody's face is not "innovation". That's called a "monopoly".

Do we really need another PHONE?? Why doesn't MS make something new and original? That might get them somewhere.

I think you're confusing "Business Savy" with "Innovation".... :D

this has epic failure written all over it.... Windows mobile is so bad, i had it on a PDA, terrible, i used it for maybe a week before i gave up on it.

XD

As much as I'd LOVE (really) competition, Microsoft fails to deliver almost always. Windows Mobile on a gold brick would suck overall. Like Apple said - it's the SOFTWARE! iPhone owns there, and Win Mo will NEVER come close to matching it.

Bring on another gross looking phone with Win Mo!

No, it's not because MS is no competition to Apple.

Too little, too late for a failed company that only copies and never innovates...

MS IS DEAD. GO APPLE!

I support Apple and all, but Microsoft is 10 times the size of Apple (probably more), you won't see Microsoft going anywhere for a long time.

Im interested to see a zune phone, don't think it will turn many people away from an iPhone, though.
