I don't care how much Micro$oft spends on advertising, it doesn't change the fact that Vista is POS software. Those who are nieve, and just plan stupid will go out and buy Vista and install it on there POS machines. Nothing Micro$oft puts on the air won't be able to beat the get a mac ads.

go ahead, micro$oft, keep throwing money at the problem that is your horrible operating system. maybe that will make it better.

example: my mom, sister and girlfriend don't know anything about computers, yet they complain to me constantly about how much vista sucks and how they want their old xp back. even my grandpa, dad and roommate who are pretty good with computers don't like it. i've never had someone tell me they enjoy using vista. they usually ask me if i can reinstall xp for them. thats when i recommend switching to mac, which they usually say will be too expensive or they just want the familiar experience with xp back and don't want to learn a new system, which isn't even really a problem at all. macs aren't even really all that more expensive anymore. i have convinced my grandpa to buy a mac mini whenever it is updated. he was blown away by the book i made him on my MBP and wants to do fun stuff like that without any problems.

i just don't think that microsoft has the right stuff anymore. they really need to get young. their approach is so outdated, especially when it comes to the internet.
I'll be the first then... I genuinely like using Windows Vista. For me, it's much better than XP ever was. I find it also boots up faster than Leopard. Of course, I'm not an Apple fanboy, so you might as well null and void my opinion, as I'm sure you will.

Security, security, security.

That's all they go on about.

Nobody wants an OS that is 95% sucure if they do X, Y and don't do Z.

They want to use a computer and never have any security issues AND never be nagged about security settings or how the OS is 'protecting them'.

People just want an OS which turns on, never ever mentions malware or viruses, and is secure.

That's what bugs me about 'Windows Defender'. It's a marketing gimmick - would you buy a Ford Mustang if it had a 'Ford Never Blow Up' sticker on it? You just expect the car to never blow up - you don't expect Ford to tell you it's keeping you safe and be Not Blowing Up(TM) every 1000 miles.

They just don't get it. Security isn't a marketing tool, it should be a given.

Excuse me? I'm neither "nieve" (the word you're looking for is spelled naive) nor stupid and I've upgraded all my PCs to Vista. Yes, upgrading. Because that's what Vista is... It's an upgrade from Windows XP.

But don't listen to me, I'm just a stupid person because I use Vista and Leopard on my iMac.

I will be surprised if the commercials will be any good. Microsoft's ads wont be as clean and cute as Apples...it's not their style. They might actually resemble a certain mock ad....

Advertising Vista? That just sounds like a silly thing to do, it's a terrible OS that I wish I hadn't wasted my last student loan on (could have gone towards an iPhone ).

Instead of spending millions advertising why not spend it improving the system and having a second re-launch? Kinda like what Apple did with 10.1 (or was it .0?).

Well I guess Someone HAS to like Vista. After all a few people do choose to buy it. :D
And again, though I have no true stats to back up my claims, like most things, I'd bet that the vast majority of people have no real issues with Vista. That's because, unlike what some people would like you to think, there really isn't a whole lot of things wrong with Vista. It works, it's stable and it's secure. Again, it's just a very vocal minority that enjoys blowing things out of proportion and likes making FUD.

Don't forget that there is also a vocal minority that believes Tiger is superior to Leopard. Of course, I'm sure no one here takes them seriously, right?

Microsoft has been improving Vista since day one. Did you miss SP1, or the monthly updates? Vista is improved every day, just as Leopard is.

Also, Apple didn't officially re-launch Mac OS X. They just distributed 10.1 as a free update. Of course, many still felt it wasn't until 10.2 that the OS really became usable.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Ditched the Dells and the Gateways and Windows and got 2 MacPro's, 2 iMac's, and 3 MacBook's for myself and the family. I have never looked back...bye, bye Microsoft.

vista sucks

Vista will always be slow and will never out perform snow leopard.
Vista is a joke. Stop making updates for it, not going to work. You need to recode everything and prey it will have a better outcome. But I don't believe in God, because its just a cult of religious beliefs.

Key features to be promoted include upgraded security and compatibility with both applications and devices.

Isn't this what Vista was originally promoting before it was release? In other words, they're upgrading their upgraded security..but this time it's "for real."

You could look at the surveys done by PC magazines and Consumer Reports. The CR survey (IIRC) said that about 80% of OS X users were happy or very happy with their OS. About 15 or 20% of Vista users said the same thing.

Unless you think that 80% is a vocal minority, you're just plain wrong.

Those are two magazines that sampled a relatively small percentage of the population. It was like that recent thread about iPhone usage in Japan. Something about 91% of the Japanese not interested in it. Then it was revealed that literally only a few hundred people took part in the survey.

I'm not saying that there are people who truly dislike Vista, all I'm saying is that even via YouTube, blogging, magazine polls, etc, you're still only sampling a small percentage of the total install base.

At the end of the day...

Poo is poo no matter how beautiful the dress it is wearing. Doesn’t matter how many millions they spend bending and distorting the truths of reality with the art of advertising...

...the smell inevitably still lingers.

(And yes I do use Vista myself... but as a cringing necessity).

You know that stereotype where people say apple users are elitists? Its hard to say I am not when I see this(I am an atheist as well ,but still).

The fact of the matter is this, vista did not offer anything new or ground breaking over xp. Super fetch was a joke, needing to turn off UAC(The accept or deny thing) is stupid, and the fact that besides a new and pretty look I am not sure what I would get over the previous one. At least apple made the 300 new things list(yah I know some of them are not important enough) where I could safely say , "So i get time machine and spaces". The fact is vista is not bad but just average.

The truth of reality is that Vista, at the end of a day, is a good OS that will get the job done.

So is Mac OS X Leopard.

So is Windows XP.

So is Ubuntu Linux.

Well, Microsoft, I only have one thing to say about your new ad campaign. Good luck, bro.

Here's a list of some new things that Vista offeres over XP...
  • New version/revision of the Windows NT kernel, based on both Windows Server 2003 and 2008
  • Shadow copies, a versioning/backup scheme that works somewhat like Time Machine
  • Greatly improved security model, this comes largely from the revised kernel in Vista
  • Some new end user features, such as Flip-3d
  • Improvements to both networking and the Windows Firewall
Again, a tiny list. And while many of the end user features are not exactly ground-breaking, Vista is still overall a much, much better OS than XP will ever be.

What strikes me as odd is that Snow Leopard is to Leopard what Vista is to XP. It's not about adding a million new features, but rather improving what's there. It's the same thing with Vista. While it added a new UI and a few new (largely uninteresting) features, it greatly improved on the kernel and the existing features. (For me, the improvements to Wi-Fi in Vista were alone worth the price I paid for it.) It seems the Apple fanboys are applauding Snow Leopard, yet condemning Vista. Why is there a double standard?
