Probably because Teams is built on the Electron app framework, so it is a completely different development from the rest of the M365 Apps. It is disappointing, especially the native notifications.

Do you know by chance how's the Electron/Apple Silicon situation at the moment?

Edit: sorry, just saw the post below about M1 support released a few days ago...

the non-native notifications drives me absolutely inside. If I get an alert I have to click over and see what it is instead of knowing what it is. The crazy part is that Windows is the same way, non-native notifications.
Good news is I was just notified that my feature request to use native macOS notifications is in testing now and will be released in early 2021

Office 2019 versions too...

*edit* That's one huge screenshot. That should be better.

This news just sold me on getting the M1 as a portable option for work and school since I primarily have to use MS Office apps. It will be so good to not be tied to my desk all day every day.

Can someone post the version number? I have been on the beta channel using the native apps for a few weeks, just curious if version 16.45 is the official release

Whoever said there is no software for the m1, sure missed the mark

Personally, I can’t stand office, but kudos for being on the ball, MS

Have a question about something in the article.

“Core Office apps, including Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote are now able to run faster on ‌M1‌ Macs.”

Is there such a thing as a separate Office app?! Or, should we send that sentence to the Committee in Redundancy Committee?

I may be in the minority, but I prefer Office (specifically Outlook) on the Mac over Windows. This is great news as I intend to fully transition to a Mac once the Apple Silicon pro machines are released.
Funny - but I kept a Windows machine around for work purposes, but have completely dropped using MS Office on PC (except for MS Project). I agree Office runs great on MacOS these days. Excel isn't quite as good, but for my limited purposes it runs well enough.

Anyone else not getting the update from the appstore?
Is there way to "refresh" the update page like on iOS? I feel like it's not checking again, even after restarting the app.

Yes, there is a separate macOS Microsoft 365 app, basically a bundle of Word, Excel, OneNote, PPT, Outlook and OneDrive. This follows their strategy of a single iOS app. You just open the app and all the formats are there for you to start a new document.

I don’t get why teams is not included in these updates. No native dark mode. No native notifications. Makes no sense.
Teams is just a website in a browser.
It's harder to integrate with native features that are so simple to use when you use native code.

Yes you are ;-)

how do you open an .pst archive?

Does anyone run EndNote X9 (Rosetta 2) with Word (M1) by any chance? When I got my Air at launch I tried the beta channel M1 Word app and the EndNote plugin didn't work. I then went back to Intel with Rosetta and it worked. I stopped automatic updates for this reason.

I don't think i can update to the M1 version of Word and then reverse back to Intel if it doesn't work.
