Yes... it shows that the browsers that have more code are more capable.

Lines of code do not translate into more RAM used.

So, where can I download the source code? Is Microsoft going to submit there changes back to the open source community?

More info here: https://github.com/MicrosoftEdge/MSEdge

Microsoft are contributing to the Chromium project.

Yes, MS is contributing to the Chromu
But I have long used Firefox due to its compatibility with Linux and Windows. Would you still be my friend? 😂

Yes, I accept Firefox users, but you become a Level 2 Friend. Level 1 is reserved for Edge users only.

So what new/better features Edge has that other browsers don't have?
I assume it's going for competition, and they're all going to steal others' ideas anyway. Gonna stick to Firefox for the time being.

Firefox will remain my primary browser, but I will install Edge Chromium as a Google-free Chrome alternative, which sometimes comes in handy. This will also be huge for many enterprise users since it will soon get an IE11 compatibility mode (which is sadly still needed for many legacy enterprise applications).

Edge is the question; cross-platform is the modifier, YES is the answer. Works fine on my work PC, my MBP and my iPhone. Favorites the same on all.

You were really thorough about this. Would you mind running the same tests on the Brave Browser please?
I could do it myself but I am not familiar with the benchmarks.

I downloaded Brave and ran the same tests. It seems to be on par with Edge, just a bit slower than Safari, definitely faster than Firefox.

JetStream 2: (https://browserbench.org/JetStream/)
Safari 137.875 (2nd run 145.128)
Edge 132.787 (2nd 2nd 136.070)
Brave 132.696 (2nd run 134.896)
Firefox 87.818

Speedometer 2: (https://browserbench.org/Speedometer2.0/)
Safari 127
Edge 111
Brave 102.4
Firefox 62.3

I loaded up imgur.com and observed the same jerky scrolling as in Edge/Firefox using the trackpad. I wonder why only Safari has smooth trackpad scrolling? *Edit: similar in news.google.com - the trackpad scrolling doesn't feel as responsive/smooth in Edge/Brave/Firefox. Would definitely bug me.

I like Vivaldi as a browser. It also uses Chromium, and they protect privacy more than Google or Microsoft.

Microsoft Edge used to have the advantage of being able to play higher resolution YouTube such as 8K smoother than Chrome. Now it's the other way around where Chrome can handle YouTube 8K fine but Chromium Edge stutters (not from buffering) even with just 4K YouTube. I'll stick with Chrome as primary but it's nice to have another browser option that has significant development resources behind it.

Everyone is going to jump on this and say it's terrible because it's Microsoft and because Edge (and IE) are terrible. But this is actually good - really good. It's all the benefits of Chrome, but without the Google having your data worries.

If you want to go further down the 'Chrome but privacy' route, then Brave browser takes it a step further. That's Chromium but with a big privacy focus. I've been using it recently (coupled with DuckDuckGo) and it's really good.

When I moved to macOS from Windows about 3 months ago, Safari was my biggest disappointment. Edge and Brave are really good replacements.
Why switch to Brave when you could just go to ungoogled-chromium and have Chrome without all the google crap? I don't want any company having their hooks into my browsing data.

I will judge this and most browsers on their power efficiency foremost. Safari is bad in a lot of ways, but the difference in Macbook battery life with it could be hours compared to Chrome. FireFox very recently became almost as power efficient as Safari, and is now my primary browser.

Until I can change my default iOS browser it doesn't matter how good any of the alternatives are. Right now I use Chrome on my PC, Mac, and iPhone. What I hate is that emails open in Safari on iOS but chrome everywhere else. So switching from Chrome to Edge doesn't fix my biggest usability issue with Chrome.

I mean, good on them for trying again and double so for making a Mac version.

If you really want Chrome without Spyware get Brave. Microsoft isn’t much better than Google when it comes to spying on users.

Can someone help me? I am going back through my comments and I can't find some of them. I think I left the wrong email address. I left my work one! o_O
