Still Does Not Compare

I saw the commercial during the Skins Giants game, and I thought it was ok, not the best. Then I just saw an Apple commercial (the one with PC as Kind) and they are clever, simple, and hilarious at the same time. Microsoft, step it up.

Weaksauce.

Total....fluff. Zero substance. Viewers have to wait until the final seconds of a near 2 minute ad to even know the ad is even relates to Windows and is not about shoes.

Which one will turn to the darkside resulting in an epic battle on a lava ridden planet as the fate of the galaxy (albeit one that is far far away) rests in the balance.

I think the whole thing would of been fine had they put two strippers in the roles. I would have probably recorded it, ripped it (using handbrake) and had it on my iphone by now.

??? :/

Ok what's was the point of the commercial, free money for Jerry, I like Jerry, but there was nothing in there about Vista.

"im a mac and im a PC ad" ---> simple, clean, direct
"Senifeld and Bill" ---> complicated, long, getting lost, dont know wth they are doing

This is what exactly the Mac OS, and Windows Vista, rite?

This commercial is deeply retarded...

I'm one of those who happens to think that Jerry Seinfeld is way overrated and actually ISN'T FUNNY! So to go with someone like that in a commercial as dim as this is a bit strange.

What makes this even more ridicules is the fact that they have to have the dark over lord him self appear in it... I know Bill Gates isn't a busy man (probably never has been), but isn't these commercials a bit on the lame side to say the least ?

What's next? Steve Ballmer in some WWF costume battling his favorite enemy a guy dressed as an iPod? (that might actually be funny)

Still, if this is the best they can do... then... it's a waste of air time... it's really the cheap end of comedy when this is all they do.

But then it's related to the PeeCee audience... I guess they don't have a sense of humor...

Al bundy: "wanna buy some shoooz?"

won't be switching back to pc use. i will however be switching from converse all stars to those nifty conquistadors (sp?)

this thread is far too long for me to read all over... did anyone actually connected shoes to windows?

Come on now, that's reading into the ad way too much when you do that...

Why do I have a feeling if Steve Jobs was in this commercial I'd be hearing the opposite?

I don't think it was necessary for them to have an Ad in the first place, considering how successful they are and have been for some time now. They could have easily just set their minds on making the OS better, maybe they won't have such a bad image in the place.

I think it would of been better if they used marienettes of Jerry and Seinfeld. Maybe had one overcome an addiction problem while the other consoled and opened up about the sexual abuse they endured as a child would have really grasped the public's experiences so far with windows. All this could happen as they shopped for shoes. That would make much more sense and set us up for the next commercial.

"Hi, I'm Mac"

"And I think I am a PC"

"WHy the confusion, PC"

"Well, I think I am a shoe."

"Oh really, I am pretty sure I am a Mac"

"No, you are just a celebrity that is here to make me look better!"

I think they are trying to put a face to the big faceless monster they call microsoft so when you think of microsoft, you think of Seinfeld and this "average guy who buys shoes at the same shop as the average joe instead of the richest man in the world with a massive company." bill gates.

Also they dont like the idiot in the suit (off the mac ads) image, who's a bit clueless, so they make bill gates seem like a practical guy(the clothes in the shower bit) they're trying to say bills not an idiot, he's smart and practical

The point of they ads is to put a face to microsoft before apple does. And they're also giving a signal that there is something on the way

I found the ad slightly amusing. After watching the Seinfeld/Superman ads I can sort of see where they might be going. But in those the Amex card saves the day at the end of the ad. In this one there is just a subtle/bizarre hint that Microsoft has something better coming in the future. "Give me a signal. Just your shorts."

As a stand-alone ad it does nothing for MS (aside from wasting their money) but the whole series together may make more sense.

OOH OOH...The Ipod guy could stare at Steve and shout " Ipoddy the fool that gets in the way of my itunes" Then steve can let him "smell what he's cookin"

i assume i'm either supposed to idolize these guys for all the money they are worth or just be humored that they are in an ad together. what microsoft's marketing team doesn't understand is that the consumer is smarter than they were 10 years ago. we're not wow'ed by celebrities as much as we used to be.

i think the ad was supposed to follow the theme of seinfeld's standup. the will ferrel ones will probably be a different tone as well. maybe they are marketed to both home and enterprise/business class users. like a combination of HP and IBM ads.

it may not have made sense but when viewers see one frame of either of these two on screen while hitting the commercial skip button on TiVo, they'll replay it just to see the performances.

Lessons learned from this ad: Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld are:

a) despite having obscene amounts of money, too cheap to shop anywhere but an outlet mall
b) despite having obscene amounts of money, too much of dorks to shop anywhere but an outlet mall
c) unconvincing as "everymen"
d) all of the above
