is this not a word when a boat starting to sink ? :)
yeah, vista has lower ratings than XP. kinda sad. happens. xp wasnt a halfbad OS...

anyway, you guys are just proving how effective the advertisement is.
its way better to get people start discussing about it.
EVERYBODY WILL REMEMBER IT.
if it was boring you would say "meh", and didnt even bother to comment on it.

and SOME advertisements doet encourage you to buy stuff.

and Im sooooo eager to by microsoft products now.
I mean really if that was an advert it was awful, I got bored by 30 sec's in, and talking about Shoes was just the oddest thing ever, and wearing them in the shower too, i mean ugh.

I just prey that this never gets to this side of the pond.

Uh that was terrible. I mean I guess they were trying to do something different, but I just thought that was retarded and a bad attempt at trying to get a new image. They paid all that money for this new marketing move? gj ms

I know I'm probably at risk of bias but.. that really was terrible, it neither convinced me to buy anything M$ makes nor did it particularly conjure any sexy new Microsoft image. In fact it just made me cringe, both at Seinfeld's faux enthusiasm, bad script and Gate's awkward, monosyllabic "acting".
Yet how authentic this acting was, so real, so genuine. It is Seinfeld's faux enthusiasm which actually has the potential to match the profound awkwardness seen here. Not even Gary Shandling could have pulled this off.

As a huge Apple fan and Microsoft hater I am really not trying to just bash this ad. It did make me chuckle just a little bit with the adjusting the shorts thing just because Bill is such a huge nerd haha. But, I have to say it really seemed pretty pointless. It was like one of those stylistic body spray or gum ads that makes absolutely no sense and could be about anything and you have no idea what it is for until they put their product up completely unrelated to anything that just happened at the last second and you say to yourself........ ummmmm ok lol!

Now what I did like is that when I saw it twice on NBC tonight Apple aired two of their Mac PC ads right around the same time and they were MUCH better :D PC as the king banishing Mac kills me lol!

Not to mention, all the rumors of this ad campaign made it sound like Microsoft was out to fight back with Apple and repair their Vista image and then THIS is what we end up getting??? LOLOL well ok then, my money is on Apple winning the fight! Just goes to show Apple has superior products, AND marketing!

Good lord, Ploki... does the P in CP+B (the ad agency that made this) stand for Ploki?

It wasn't boring. It was confusing, badly plotted, and did not make me more likely to buy a Microsoft products. It was a Twin Peaks episode with less Log Lady.

The only thing it left me feeling was that Microsoft wasn't sure what it wanted to sell me so it tried to sell me Microsoft as a feeling, but it wasn't sure exactly what Microsoft's selling points were.

And for the record. I have two computers on my desk right in front of me. An iMac and a PC running XP. I'm not a Microsoft basher, I use Windows every day. In fact, there are 6 computers in this house (Is there a support group?) and only two of them are macs.

Actually, the WTF responses seem to prove that this add was provocatively baffling enough to be really effective - which was surely the underlying intent.

Nope, the WTF's in question were much more negative than you're implying. When people first saw the "Bud" - "Wise" - "Er" frog campaign for Budwieser, they may not have understood what frogs had to do with beer, but the responses were not the clearly implied "WTF??!!??".

Did you not read the first 15 pages of posts?? Only a small % were provocatively baffled.

OTH, I'm appreciating the phrase "provocatively baffling" - that is awesome. Maybe that's our new Mojave slogan, LOL.

(reminded me of the first Aqua Teen appearance on the "Baffler Meal" episode of Space Ghost, and just as I was reading your post ATHF started on adult swim - cracked me up)

peace

Umm. I don't get it.

So, like, because of that ad, I'm meant to say -- gee, I'd love to get a computer with Vista?

$10 million doesn't go very far these days.

I think part of the reason for the high post-count is this:

There is excitement we all feel because, for the first time in a long time....

IT IS ON! (I'm reminded of the South Park dance episode, ;) )

Right, though?

Err, very much no. That's like saying someone's point is correct because you're laughing at them.

You're basically saying that the Mac users feel threatened, that this ad campaign could be a real shot at Apple. I don't think this offers any kind of threat to Apple; indeed, I feel sorry for them because this is what all their money gave them. I sent this around to my co-workers. I'm one of 2 Mac guys, among 10 Windows guys. The Windows guys didn't get it either, and were like, this is very very stupid.

I realize it'a a pre-ad. But they're supposed to generate interest and anticipation. This made me want to go to sleep. I was seriously bored through it, I almost closed the browser tab about 1/3 of the way through. The only reason I didn't is because the video had already fully loaded so was already counted against my internet data allocation at work, so it would have been a waste.

And I've lost what little respect for Bill Gates still remained.

So, yep, bring it on. Air it everywhere. I think the rest of the world will be just as underwhelmed by this, and it will be filed in history beside the Zune.

It was a bit funny, especially the mug shot on the circus clown card thing, but it was a bit crap.

Just wait til Service Pack 1 comes out for this commercial, it'll add some backstory and also be more stable. Sadly, Windows Commercial SP1 will not be compatible with some hardware... we're not sure which. So um... download it and let us know if it works.

Bravo. But downloading will not be necessary. Please be aware that Commercial SP1 will be automatically installed with or without your permission while you are online. Working on important files is not recommended during this undetermined interim period, so utilize your PC at your own risk.

:D

Ok, Cwedl brought it up and he's right... the best part of this whole thing was the mugshot on his Shoe Circus card. That was the one spot in the entire thing that made me actually laugh.

Now, I would totally love the ads if he'd reshoot his centerfold pics from 1983. http://www.scurvydawg.com/article.php?story=billgates1983

Well, Commercial SP1 will automatically download if your hardware isn't a problem and you've set your commercial updater to automatically update. If you haven't set it to update, you can download it on your own.

Of course, if you download the stand alone version of Commercial SP1, it will not come with updates to the updates.

Let me be the third to say it.

"WTF?"

Well I watched it on the local fox station and had to use the rewind and call the wife in to watch it... She was lost also I told her well everyone know who Bill Gates and Jerry Sinced is.. Just then my 8yr old said I dont know who he is then she ask why would you want to eat a computer that would taste yucky

You should tell her that if eating computers with M$ on it can lead to viruses.

There is a joke in there somewhere.

This commercial reminds me of the E*Trade commercial from the Super Bowl where they had a dancing monkey for 30 seconds and said "We just wasted 2 million bucks. What are you doing with your money?"

Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnQMq5wtZcg

It is either the worst commercial ever or the best commercial ever. If they are intentionally blowing millions for stupid commercials, the joke is on us.

-Andy

And what is not to love about that comerical? It sells their product, and it's a monkey in human clothes.

Cute. Monkey. In. Human. Clothes. It is more effective than that M$ ad.

HAHAHAHAHA :D this is AWESOME. :D
lol. was there actually a time when computer geeks(inagoodway) made it into TEEN magazines? :)

"I also think it is funny how he has an Apple Mac in the background of the first pic."
cool:)

Teen Beat - This sums it all up.

OMG - that's dire. Both Gates and the other bloke are awful. So tacky and cheap looking. The message is so swamped in crassness.
