Reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Homer made a car for his brothers company that was so bad that it was beyond description.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but the picture on Bill's Shoe Circus platinum card in the ad seems to be his mug shot from when he was arrested in Albuquerque. Now that is actually quite funny!

It's intended to be overly confusing to get people talking about it.

You might say to your mate "you seen that weird Vista ad, the one where Bill Gates is in a shoe shop?" and eventually word spreads through word of mouth - the best kind of advertising.

On a more obvious note, MS don't need to advertise. More than 80% of computer users run Windows, and all they'd do is upgrade to the next version instinctively. Millions of people at £90 at least for Vista = no need to advertise.

Err, very much no. That's like saying someone's point is correct because you're laughing at them.

????? You are batchtasting crazy pills, and evidently you've hired "The Sphinx" from Mystery Men to write your retorts:

>>You must lash out with every limb, like the octopus who plays the drums.

>>He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions.

You're basically saying that the Mac users feel threatened, that this ad campaign could be a real shot at Apple. I don't think this offers any kind of threat to Apple; indeed, I feel sorry for them because this is what all their money gave them. I sent this around to my co-workers. I'm one of 2 Mac guys, among 10 Windows guys. The Windows guys didn't get it either, and were like, this is very very stupid.

I realize it'a a pre-ad. But they're supposed to generate interest and anticipation. This made me want to go to sleep. I was seriously bored through it, I almost closed the browser tab about 1/3 of the way through. The only reason I didn't is because the video had already fully loaded so was already counted against my internet data allocation at work, so it would have been a waste.

And I've lost what little respect for Bill Gates still remained.

So, yep, bring it on. Air it everywhere. I think the rest of the world will be just as underwhelmed by this, and it will be filed in history beside the Zune.

Batchtaster, did you even read any other posts in this thread??

Good Lord, dude. I'll recap for your dumb a*s:

1. I am the biggest damn Apple user you will ever meet, tempered with enough Windows use over many years to know MS sucks.

2. The post you quoted said "I am happy that MS is threatened enough by Apple to spend tons of money to defend themselves."

3. "It is on" indicates MS being threatened enough to try to battle Apple.

4. MS feeling threatened means they know they're losing.

5. I am looking forward to seeing their best shot, and when Apple continues to increase its market share, MS will possibly become even more desperate.

Nobody said it's a fabulous ad, just that the marketing tack they're taking is an obvious one. Good on you for realizing it's a "pre-ad", broseph.

I just happened to catch the ad on TV, and I understand what they're doing.

So please carry your weak-a*s attempt at flexing back to you-tube or wherever you're kickin' it these days, if your bandwidth allows.

Maybe it's my twisted sense of humour but I thought it was clever and funny. When your companies image is as tarnished and sh*tty as Microsoft it's kind of pointless trying to tell people how good your latest product is. Instead the best you can hope for is to try and improve your image... slightly. A quirky advert that portrays your iconic, traditionally stiff leader as an odd ball shoe shopper has to do more than if they'd got Jerry to stand there and say "Vista is cool".

They've got to get you in 5, 3 even better

Seconds that is. They lost me at 3 and was confused by 5. What lunatic wrote this? Seinfeld? Wrong in so many ways. Its like something from an assignment on the Apprentice that ends up getting slammed for being the worst ad idea on earth. its just like using Windows. beating about the bush and not getting to the point, or as in Windows, clicking a lot of things and getting nowhere.

Which he could never do in a convincing and sincere manner, being the dedicated and avid Mac user that he is.

Why don't they get people to talk about the ad by making it good?

This is the worst piece of s**t I have ever seen. How does a crap campaign like this get a $300 million budget?!?!?!?

And Sienfield looks terrible. Could not be more-un-funny (and I'm a fan.)

Nice try but the ad is just like Vista, confusing and crappy. Next batter please.

I'll get flamed for this but...

I never once laughed at Seinfeld...ever...not once.........ever...

This commercial says "old and saggy" to me. Instead of wasting 10 million on an old comedian they should spend it on fixing vistas broke ass.

That was just painful to watch and not very funny.

Hopefully their next efforts will be better.

Oh my god, that ad was absolute dogsh**. Isn't an ad supposed to sell a product? Show off it's capabilities, it's good points, and why you should buy it??

The way it ended, with the still logo images - just like how Apple end their ads - nearly made me puke. Just goes to show, all the money in the world can't buy you originality. :apple:

Maybe you have to wait for the service pack, install a load of drivers and reboot a few times before you understand the advert.

Why don't they get people to talk about the ad by making it good?

Like I said, they don't need to advertise. They probably just thought "let's be even more abstract than Apple, if it's crap, who cares? Money is no object to them and come hell or high water people wills still buy Windows".

Or thoughts to that effect :)

MS Shoes

I saw this ad and went to buy a pair of Microsoft shoes...

They looked okay, but when I got home it took me 45 minutes to get them on.
Then, after a while I was forced to activate my shoes, which was fine but nobody else can wear them.

I tried to walk down the road wearing my new Microsoft shoes but found that one of them hurt my foot a considerably, so I took it off and put it back on again... it was okay for about 10 minutes but then started hurting again...

I took my left shoe back to the shop, but the Microsoft© Certified Shoe Technician® said there wasn't a problem, it was that I needed to upgrade the sole inside to a better version...
So... I took my left shoe back and tried it on again after the sole upgrade, but now found that it didn't hurt my foot anymore, but I was completely unable to walk in a straight line!

I rang the store and the Microsoft© Certified Shoe Security Operative® told me I had the Athlete's Foot Virus, and it had got onto the shoe via my laces.
I applied the anti-virus powder, but they were still hurting me...

After swapping the shoes over to the opposite foot (which just caused me to break my ankle) I perservered for a while , but ultimately found myself hating the damn things...
I took them both back to the shop again, but the Microsoft© Certified Footwear Specialist® told me it there was nothing wrong with the shoes themselves, it was actually my third-party socks causing the grief.

After ringing my lawyers, I eventually got a refund, and went to the Apple Shoe Store...
My Apple shoes are great, I just wear them and walk around - brilliant!
(Although I do get the urge to dance stupidly if I'm silhouetted for any reason!!!)

Good points? Nothing to see here, let's move on........................

Well said.......... however, it sure can help rack up those Big Top points.

haha , owned.

its sad how many ppl dont realize that too, come on people.

I think it is important to realize who this ad is targeted towards. I don't think it is the MR community and other Apple Fanboy groups.

People are running away from MS products such as Explorer, Windows etc. to other browsers (FireFox, Safari etc), Operating systems (Linux, OS X etc) and even older versions of the own OS (from Vista to XP).

In my opinion they should try to sway the user or company that is at this moment looking to buy a PC or new desktop contract. This user is looking at different options of what is available NOW, and not what will be available in the future.. If I buy a PC now, than I want it to have a good OS and first class software. I'm not interested in the fact that Vista will (maybe) get better or that windows 8 will be introduced in a few years. We need solutions for NOW and not the future.

This ad does nothing to address the problems windows has at THIS moment:
  • People running away from Vista
  • People downloading Firefox by the millions per day

But lets wait to see what will happen and what the new ads will do. Maybe we will get a surprise..

I only have one problem with my Apple Shoes.

Three days after I bought this pair, they released a whole new line of shoes that fit better, help you run faster, and came in different colors.

If only I'd read ShoeRumors.com before I bought my iSneakers!
