I like Seinfeld, but just like his show about nothing, that commercial was about nothing. You are going to pay the networks 1:30 of airtime to air that, what a waste.

If I can assume for a minute that the people who put this ad campaign together are smart, then I can further assume that as more commercials are rolled out in this campaign then, taken together, they will begin to make sense with respect to selling Vista.

I can only hope that more of these commercials means fewer of those awful Nationwide commercials where the Granny beats up the kid in the parking lot!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there.

This is one of the worst I've ever seen.
There really is no point in this.

I can do that and I could do it for less than 10million (Although I'd appreciate it :) )

The only conclusion I can get from this ad is, if I put my PC under the shower, will it stop showing blue screens of death?

Most likely if it's plugged in and switched on and you duct tape over the breaker. Note to junior members: Don't try this if you are not over 18 and not wearing rubber boots.

Nice, but it's too clever for its own good. Evidently way too clever for most Apple customers, judging from the comments, haha.

Amen.

In typical Windows fashion, however, it took way too long to do such a simple task.

I find it surprising that Microsoft is getting into the shoes business. It's not exactly up their alley.

Wait, what's that you said? They are NOT going into the shoe business?

So WTF is the purpose of this ad???

I've always said the only thing Microsoft could sell that wouldn't suck is

{drum roll}

A vacuum cleaner:D

Dumbest ad ever. After watching it once (and pushing myself to watch the whole thing) next time it came on it would be a refrigerator visit in an instant. The budweiser and pc/mac ads - I'll watch them over and over.

(actually I do buy MS trackballs - best out there)

Too clever?

Apple customers do generally appreciate and understand the beauty of elegance and simplicity which does seem to be lacking in Microsoft products and reflected in this ad.

If it is indeed being ‘too clever for its own good’ is that a reflection that Microsoft is a company that does not consider the perspective of the consumer (or the advert watching audience) and how they can best understand, enjoy and have a friendly experience in using their products?

Plus the lack of Vista content, to me, seems to reflect they don’t wish to bring light and awareness to the product. I wonder why... Lack of confidence? Slightly embarrassed of the product? Might make viewers ‘switch’ to another channel?

The whole point in advertising (and I work in this area as a graphic designer) is to highlight the strengths of your products to your audience in the most effective way. If you have a product which is amazing in this or that way, naturally you would want to shout about it in an ad; not shy away from a product which seems to be the case in this ad.

Don't get it

I think this falls mor3e in line with those silly commercials of Bill Gates trying to do something after microsoft.

My take - Now that Bill is out of Microsoft, he has to cut his budget and shop at discount stores....

Then I took the ending part (the real bad cut over to talking about MS) as ok, Bill and the rest of MS still have no clue about their future and will grasp at anything?

Maybe I am reading too much into it, but seriously - this seemed to be a more "Bill after Microsoft" or Bill working on something other than a Microsoft ad.

It spoke nothing about their products or image. And truthfully, even as a shoe commercial.... "ok - so in order for my shoes to be comfortable, I have to wear them in the shower and stretch the heck out of them" Oh yea, makes me want to buy that shoe or shop at Shoe Circus

Shoe Carnival is a real store - and I think they should sue for some sort of copyright infringement.

That was, without a shadow of a doubt, the most unfunny and frankly embarassing thing I have ever seen.

I'm actually embarassed for Jerry Seinfeld. It comes across as the sort of horrible thing you'd likely come across in some internal company training video.

Good luck Microsoft if you think it's going to improve your image...

I liked it

Just wait, there is a really good ad agency behind this. They know what they are doing. They will just keep building on each commercial. But regardless, if this was the greatest commercial ever made you guys will still hate it because it's Microsoft. If you want to talk about a stupid commercial lets talk about Apple's pizza commercial. In the beginning I thought the Apple commercials were really good. They're just tired now. I think Apple needs to start something new and get rid the Mac guy PC guy. It's not getting old, it's already old.

I agree with several other users - the commercial is pleasant. I think it'll make more sense as the series goes on. It's refreshing to see a low key approach, it's certainly a contrast to the "I'm a mac - I'm a PC" ads.

:eek:WTF? I think is a stupid commercial. Lame. What's the theme. No theme at all. Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates, two "celebrities" together, That's All!! :D:apple:

Building on commercials is the dumbest marketing plot ever, They are not TV shows or web casts that you can sit and watch at certain times. Had it been a good commercial I'd like it, like how I do like the HP commercials.

The point of a commercial is to grab attention, and advertise why you should put money some where. Not use two people and throw in your point about cake computers.

Seriously? At least Mac had a point with the pizza commercial college students, and I thought it was probably one of the funniest ones. I laugh at them because of the situation, not because they are making fun of windows computers not every commercial has to be a political ad saying the other person (business) wants to taser small children.

I thought it was pretty funny/kooky. If it were like a short film I would like it. But as an ad for Microsoft? It doesn't say anything about Microsoft. So that part is pretty dumb.

Weird. As soon as the ad appeared on my TV, the screen only showed this.

What? I think that they missed the point of advertising, which is to make sure ANY person watching the ad should know what they are talking about. Seemed like a lot of computer 'inside jokes' that would only be known by the computing community, and even then it still didn't get any message across.

And why is Seinfeld talking to Gates? He's retired! He should be talking to Ballimer right?

One side note - I don't think we can totally say that the Get a Mac ads are that solid. They were great at the start, but now they have just made way too many, and the message is the same 'Vista sucks, Macs are cool' thing. They need to start touting what Leopard can do. Some of the Mac ads I have seen lately should never have aired at all as they have lost that cutting edge wit that they were using a lot of in the early commercials.

At least the iPhone ads show features (even if they are a little exaggerated!)

Just my opinion is all.

Didn't Jerry always have macs in his pad? I know on one of his old websites featured a mac. I guess the real question is; if Bill Gates offered you 10M, would you switch?

If they gave me $10M I would switch. With $10M I would not have to worry about getting any work done, and if it crashed and was down for days; no big deal.
