Just wait, there is a really good ad agency behind this. They know what they are doing. They will just keep building on each commercial. But regardless, if this was the greatest commercial ever made you guys will still hate it because it's Microsoft. If you want to talk about a stupid commercial lets talk about Apple's pizza commercial. In the beginning I thought the Apple commercials were really good. They're just tired now. I think Apple needs to start something new and get rid the Mac guy PC guy. It's not getting old, it's already old.

So adios. How do you like working at that "really good ad agency."

The ad was ok as an intro. Maybe another Mr. Softy beta version. I liked Bill, but it reminded me why I stopped watching Seinfeld a couple of years before it ended, and why I don't watch the reruns. Old and tired. And what's with Bill Gates being a 10? Sure sounds like an invitation for an SNL parody.

And I'm not too sure how "The Conquistador" will play in developing countries (but it sure does sound like Microsoft).

"Spanish chroniclers have traditionally characterized the conquest of the Americas as an impressive and laudable feat, that occurred at a speed that has not been matched by any other people[citation needed]. The stated purposes of these conquests were equally to spread the word of God and to bring civilization to the most obscure parts of the world. On the contrary, the testimony of some indigenous peoples as well as some contemporary Spanish humanists, clergymen and other writers have presented the Spanish Conquest of Americas as an unfortunate fact, morally questionable, driven by greed for gold, resulting in the destruction of the cultures of native peoples." While I'm not a fan of Seinfeld, I will say I laughed pretty hard at this commercial. It was just so random!

Helluva lot funnier than the "I'm a Mac" "I'm a PC" ads.

Agreed.

It doesn't need to talk about Vista if they are already moving towards something else.

People were expecting a combatative retort but they don't have to resort to such tactics. This sort of ad is light hearted and paints a kinder friendlier MSFT unlike what :apple: tries to illustrate.

People will like the commercial

I haven't read through every single post, so I may be reiterating here, but this ad seems like it's probably the first of a long long series of ads that will show Seinfeld trying to get Bill Gates to make a computer more "hip" and "likable". They are probably thinking very long term, eventually leading up to these commercials introducing Windows 7. (If the commercials are received well and are successful.)

This simple ad is obviously part of a much larger campaign in which each ad will be tied to the one preceding it. The danger of these ads, however lame they may seem right now, is that they take the same approach as the Apple ads do by attempting to build a long-term audience and tell a story over the course of the campaign. People will tune into each episode (if for nothing else than to see Jerry) and follow the story closely. The only problem with that story, is that it won't be beneficial to Apple, and if it attacks the Apple ads directly, that could spell trouble.

In general, I agree with my initial assessment of "WTF?" but I can guarantee they are going to get much better and much more clear from this point forward. Expect Microsoft shills like Paul Thurott and the like to be championing the content in these ads.

yeah

and after watching the ad... I can only hope for M-soft it gets better.

"They're tight"? WHAT???

I did NOT need to see Bill shaking his lard ass in my face. I will admit the platinum card with his yearbook pic was a little funny.

MS and Steinfeld ads

This ad matches perfectly what Microsoft is all about = Total confusion. Look what kind of clown is running this company. Compare the person with Steve Jobs. All said.....

About nothing

People have commented about how Jerry's shows were about nothing, and this ad is about nothing. May Microsoft is sending the message that they have nothing:

No new ideas

No idea how to recover sales while waiting for windows 7 to be released (I mean they told all the stores to pull XP off the shelves as of June 18th, so their only sales are people buying new computers - I had to smarten up one guy, he was going to buy a new PC hoping his problems would fixed as his 1 month old computer with Vista Sp1 was too hard to work with. I said "Umm your just buying another Vista SP1 to replace Vista Sp1 - really think about it!" He then said oh yea, hardware doesn't make a difference it is still the same software.

No clue what they want to do in the future

No idea of direction now that Gates is gone

No idea how they are going to pay for the holes in the wall, due to Ballmer's chair throwing

As promised, Microsoft has started running their new ads using comedian Jerry Seinfeld and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The ad has already been spotted by a number of readers.

The first in presumably a series of ads show Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld in Shoe Carnival. A YouTube video is available.

Seinfeld was reportedly paid $10 million for his work in this series of ads.

That makes absolutely no-sense what so ever; check out the Burger King ads made by the company employed - just as crap too.

Now, here are some ads we have in NZ, notice something - they're actually FUNNY!

See what happens when you get real advertising agencies like saatchi and saatchi rather than half baked, half witts whom Microsoft employed.

Yeah..... that was bad. You finally know what they are trying to sell in the last 15 seconds of the commercial. I'm hoping they at least have better ones in the pipeline.

Did I think it was amusing? Sure. Did I get what they wanted to sell? Not really. Unless you work in IT I don't think you'd get what they are trying to sell. Since Windows is supposed to be used by 90% or the world, I'd have hoped they would know their target audience a tad better...

Where can I find Shoe Circus?

Where can I find one of these Shoe Circus stores? They were selling shoes, right?

Sorry, but they only quickly flashed the Windows logo at the very end, and it didn't really promote anything. This seems about as obscure and weird as a Nike ad.

However, I did love Bill Gates' old picture on his Shoe Circus card.

I want the last 90 seconds of my life back

You'll have to fill out an Official Microsoft Complaint Sheet (URADRK.2008) then wait eight years and maybe... juuust maybe you'll get it back...

But then you'll probably want to fill out the (IGTSKRD.2016) sheet demanding to get your eight years back for waiting...

;)

The entire thing about sharing a big hotdog with a sausage looking a lot like a shlong made me think it was a tad to gay right there.. and then they walk out into the sunset... I mean parking lot holding hands... I mean eating a big shlong...

I was frantically hitting CMD+ALT+ESC!!!! NOTHING HAPPENED!!!
