I read in the comments it has 3 hour battery life, I really hope that's not true.

I really hope this takes off as I would like education to be more interactive, particularly historical geography.

3 hrs battery? That's going to integrate well with everyday use then!

Well this isn't expected to actually be used for very long. And you can just recharge it after you are done fiddling
Immersing users into some kind of action movies actually is a brilliant application.

Yes, but it is a $3,000 piece of fragile equipment. You can't hand these out to each member of a movie theater crowd. How much are you going to need to charge for tickets considering the numbers that will get broken or stolen with each viewing?

NASA is already using this.
Cool. So maybe some developers will make some software that 50 people working for NASA will use and they will charge NASA $10,000 per license. I guess this works for enterprise use and that is what will be the focus. It should be neat. But I'd also like to see Microsoft develop Apps and a price point for the hardware that are compelling enough together that they can sell these devices on the merits of that internal developed stuff. I fear though that they haven't been able to come up with that and they are hoping third party developers will. But third party developers have tighter budgets and less familiarity to the device and to where it is going.

This device seems neat and all, but when Kinect was announced and shown, it was the same feeling everyone is getting for this device. I fell for that trap, and I'm never falling for it again.

Sleek? It looks like cataract surgery sunglasses.

I never used Kinect but it's the one product flop I don't 100% blame Microsoft for; they really tried on the Xbox one to make Kinetic integral to the gaming experience and if gamers had given it a chance I truly believe it would have worked well as they were pretty much forcing devs to make use of it, however gamers revolted & did not want it forced on them and MS had to cave and that was that.

Actually Kinect is used in a lot of psychology labs for tracking human movements. As a research tool it's not bad.

So, is it going to track the crying from the user being researched on when he/she see's the Kinect and reacts to it?

Honestly, why would psychology departments track movements? Aren't the doctors working there getting paid to look at patients with their own eyes, and make assessments that way? Why are they getting paid such high dollars then if they're just going to be lazy? A sub-par peripheral can't be used to diagnose, treat, and study patients who have mental illness. Thats just absurd. Whoever is using this device for this purpose, their clinic should be closed.

It's the current human desire to be obesely fat or a disgusting pig with idiotic dreams of tech being far more than it is. Future gens will be more piggish, farting dorito dust onto their couches while taking a pixelated tour of paris. Idiocracy has come to life, and pigs defend it.

This future way of life sounds amazing. I'm all in.

I can't wait to go from a trim 145, to a fat 245 pounder with whale blubber. yaaaaaaaas!!!!
My goal is to weigh at least 300+ lbs. Then I won't be able to move, and I then can experience HoloLens in full glory. YASSSSS!

Who do you blame then? Microsoft made Kinect, they advertised it, and it flopped. When they first showed it off, it was all smoke and mirrors. It was all BS, and a lot of people, including myself ate it up. Gamer's never wanted Kinect in the Xbox One, the voice gestures, and control's were neat, but people necessarily didn't want that. It just increased the price of the console, which people didn't want. And MS admitted defeat and eventually got rid of it from the console bundle and separated the device from the console itself. Like an ugly step child.

Kinetic was killed by a combination of things but largely gamers and the NSA scandal; from all the internet chatter at the time the two points were:
Gamers did not feel they should be forced to 'pay' for it.
NSA scandal raised concerns about the box.

I recall the Kinetic bundles being dropped to £360 in the UK but gamers just wanted nothing to do with it, then MS released the Kinetic-less bundles which were around the same price initially (£350) and gamers quietened down.

Gamers never gave Kinetic 2 and instead of progressing forward with Kinetic MS was forced to cave and release the Kinetec-less bundle which killed Kinetic.

3 grand is still a lot, especially if they are an indie developer or just starting up. And in regards to people buying iPhones for their families, which family does that? And to be honest, the iPhone is actually a better value for the money, while the Hololens dev kit is like buying a tumbleweed.

Yep especially as it seems that MS has lost the mobile platform battle; they might have a target of 1Bn devices - but most won't be mobile, which gross income at higher rate than desktops. Hologram is asking devs to take a big leap of faith that its better than competiting VR as shown by Fb backed solution, etc.

You must be new here. Welcome!

NSA Scandal Killed Kinect? Were you there when Xbox One was unveiled to the world? Didn't you see the uproar when they said Kinect would be a part of the system bundled in? People were just pissed. The UK always gets screwed over pricing, and the pricing from what I recall was much better here in North America. If it was a good product it would be way more popular, and be highly praised and accepted. Its the same scenario again, and again. And this is what Hololens will be like, an utter disappointment. It's just history repeating itself.

No the NSA did not solely kill Kinetic it contributed to it's demise as people were creeped out by the fact that it was always on and connect online in fact a slander for the Kinetic at the time was NSA box.

Add to that which I mentioned in my earlier posts and which you have pointed out too gamers never gave Kinetic a chance, the second they heard it was mandatory part of the console they whined and moaned crying privacy or cost; despite (using the UK as an example) a Kinetic bundle only costing £10.00 > the Kinetic-less bundle. That's why I say I don't blame MS 100% for its flop.
I do remember the announcement, I was on Windows central, gamespot and IGN when it was released,

As for HoloLens I hope they can make it successful but even Google struggled with the glasses.
I look at the Lumia band, kinetic and windows phones which are not in the best of shape and it leads me to believe they really struggle with new devices especially when they deviate too far from 'pure' Windows.
