but I don't want to write on the screen, I just want a keyboard and trackpad that aren't terrible
The keyboard & trackpad on the mac have always been far superior to anything on the windows platform because of the way windows interprets input devices. You 'must' use a mouse with windows to get an ok experience. Now they have a pen and touch, they just expect everyone to assume thats better than one really good input device.

I really feel sorry for MS that they don't understand that. I'd prefer they make a great laptop and a great tablet with no compromises and nothing 'detachable'. Some laptops come very close, the razor blade is high up there despite it's ugly logos and vile green accents, it's a vastly superior device than the surface.

Surface Pro: a tablet and a personal computer. A tablet and a personal computer.

This ad was just sad. I bought a Surface Pro 4 once and returned after 5 days due to so many hardware and software issues for such a premium price. Really bad experience with Microsoft as expected.

I love my Surface Pro. I only use the pen to do screen caps and have no other use for it. I may get a SP5 once they get announced.

I really like that advert - doesn't take itself seriously at all.

It's funny to me to see the commercials. They are just terrible. But they also make fun of an outdated laptop because Apple has refused to update their line for too long. Hopefully this works to force Apple to actually update this year. I also note that they aren't doing a comparison to the iPad Pro which can do everything they claim their surface does (sans the port or track pad). Why not compare and compete there..... hmm.....

Good point. I think more people would buy a MBA than a iPad Pro though, and are aiming at the laptop users rather than tablet users. Still like the ad though.

Here comes the usual "Don't make fun of your competition" comments even though Apple did it with the I'm a Mac and I'm a PC ads and this one is actually truthful.
No, no. They definitely should keep making ads like this. I'm fine with it.

While Microsoft's ads are truthful that there's no touchscreen on Mac computers, their ads are just plain horrible. They're cringe worthy! Yes Apple did it years ago too, but at least their ads were funny and charismatic. Specially PC guy.

The Surface is complete garbage. While the specs are good and Windows 10 is actually tolerable, the hardware itself is horrendous. I had one for work and if it sat in the sun for more than 5 minutes, it would overheat and take 10 to come back. If it sat inside a vehicle with moderate heat, it would overheat and take 10 minutes to come back (causing a reboot and me losing everything that was up in browsers, Skype, etc.). The touchscreen would work 25% of the time. I would tap on certain spots on the screen and see the response but the program wouldn't register the interaction. Someone in our IT department thought it'd be good to switch from tried and true laptops to these abortions. And for them to talk crap on Apple with their subpar equipment makes me dislike the Surface even more. Lastly, the price is ridiculous.

As someone who has owned a Surface Pro 4, and loved a lot about it, the reason I sold it after only 3 months was the constant crashing of the OS (probably once or twice a week on average) and most importantly the advertised battery life is NO WHERE NEAR the actual battery life (8-9 hours vs 2-4 hours, depending on what apps were running).

Nice product, but like most of MS products, half baked with too many compromises.

P.S. The MS pen is a much nicer product than the Apple Pencil and works flawlessly. I hope Apple takes some cues there.

it happen to mine as well. i gave up and went to other provider. i realize why buy surface when it is the same for other vendors. it is still running windows. i saved some money as well.

A great product for some, but who the hell approved this ad? Damn it's embarrassing!

Did the Ad tell you what application they were running? Was it Paint? Fine for doodles but what else?

How many use cases actually require doodling on the screen? IMHO, not very many.
As for their keyboard.... w.t.f. are they playing at. Sheesh, and people complain at Apple keyboards.
Even a salesman in a UK store wasn't pushing it very hard. His comment was, 'the Yoga is a much better made device'.

Then there is the sheer number of ads they are playing. Here in the UK, there is one on about 3 times an hour during the Paralympics.
Their ad budget must be taking a bit of a pasting.

I still struggle to find a need for this device - it seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I do some stuff where I need to run full PC versions of software (e.g. Adobe products like PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, etc.), but when I do, I don't need the touchscreen interface. Other times when I'm doing other stuff and using my iPad, I seldom need a keyboard, although if I do I have one (e.g. writing a long email or working on a Word/Pages document). Maybe I'm a product of my environment, but it just seems that I'm either in notebook mode or tablet mode - I don't need a hybrid.

I don't get why doesn't Microsoft come the surface to the iPad? Why compare a tablet to a laptop???

They are ads. Their job is to convince people to buy a particular product instead of an alternative. Not sure why people get their panties in a bunch about them. EVERY ad out there is a mine is better than yours, some are just more blatant than others.

With that the SP does have some neat features that would be nice on a new combo device. However, IMO the way MS implements stuff is retarded so any advantage they have is gone. I'd love to see Apple grow the iPad Pro line into a more than a tablet device, but most importantly I want it to be functional. Not some jack of all master of none abortion. Plus if it runs Windows 10 it sucks out of the gate.
