OK, I just don't get the connection to anything regarding an OS, except maybe, and a big maybe, the last 5 seconds of the skit when Bill does the "Robot" and you have got to be kidding me on that one....

That's millions thrown into the toilet, but hey, they got deep pockets.

A Waste of Time.. Hello Apple.. :apple:

We (as in apple fanboys/advocates/owners etc) are not the target audience.
The commercial is establishing the brand MS as one that connects with all people and understands them. They are not trying to sell you specifically an OS, the Zune, or whatever.

We (as in the people in this forum) should not judge the effectiveness of it based on our own position in this matter, as we are totally biased and in a wrong mindset for it.

As a "fanboy" of either, the Microsoft ads are much more entertaining than the Apple/PC ads that Apple are bringing out. Yes, at first, the Apple ads were funny, but they have now turned to annoying. The Microsoft ads are funny to me, because seeing Bill Gates acting as a normal person is funny.

It's all about branding. The ads don't have to make sense, if people remember it, they will remember the Windows logo at the end. Apple are too "in your face" with "Hi, I'm a Mac, and I'm cool" tactics. Sure, it may get the college kid market, but it misses most people.

You no comprende?

They're two out of touch zillionaires getting in touch with the people to ground themselves and understand what normal people do/want/need, in a non-serious light hearted manner.

It's not about not comprehending. The fact is, most people (their target audience) don't analyse ads. They don't look and think "oh... this is what it is... this is what it's supposed to be.. this is the point they're making". That point needs to be seen at face value.

At face value, they look like douchebags.

Micro$oft couldn't make a simple ad as Apple. Just like their system, there are no simple way to create a new folder, on a Mac just press Command N, try that in Windows.
Alt - F - W - F is so lame (by the way those are shortcut to create new folder in Windows)

The amount of snobbery, hypocrisy and downright ignorance can only suggests to me that Apple has really done well to target its hip, pubescent teenagers. Why is it that many mac users (at least on here) have to look down on everything? The ad may not be to your taste, but just because Windows "sucks" doesn't mean that anything by Microsoft is automatically bad.

I found the ad funny and charming, but of course not everyone has to like it. However, for such high-brow crowd, how anyone could not understand the message of this ad is beyond me.

Get off your high horse.

Yeah....whatever, dude.

I agree people can like something, like Apple, and still accept other things, like people in the DeLorean community love DeLoreans (as we love Apple) but still like other cars.

I like Apple and Linux, and I take a interest in computers and gadgets in general, regardless where they are from, I even tried out Vista when it came out.

Despite this, I know Microsoft and all their products SUCK! Their new ad campaign... It SUCKS!

Simple.

Excuse me, but again, how does that tell me about their products. Apple's ads are simple and straight to the point, "this is what our product does". There is no need to host a midrash to find out the deeper and hidden meaning - it sits out in the open for everyone to see.

The commercial is establishing the brand MS as one that connects with all people and understands them. They are not trying to sell you specifically an OS, the Zune, or whatever.

Pardon? how does that ad demonstrate "MS as one that connects with all people and understands them" when there is no relationship between them, their products and their customers?

"based on our own position in this matter" - what position on the matter? I like Microsoft Office! I like some of Microsoft's products - so I don't know where you come off assuming that there is a grand unified position which every Mac user must obviously subscribe to being that they're Mac users.

bill gates does the robot

This is weird, why is bill gates doing a poor impression of the robot?
you can tell he's not an actor LoL

It seems to be there thing, at the end someone asks Bill Gates a stupid question about chewable computers or whatever then Bill Gates acts retarded.

The first one repulsed me because Gates came off as extremely full of himself, and it seemed very negatively ironic for the two of them to be scrimping pennies for shoes. (Also that tush move was nasty.) It really seemed dishonest and cynical. But the second one... if you give it your attention, it's much more tolerable. Mostly because the "secondary" characters are better and more focus is put on them. It still turns my stomach that this super-powerful man, Gates, is playing up his status as a famous person in an obviously middle-class/mildly lower-middle-class setting. But this second one is more tolerable.

But like politics today, it just makes me angry to see such expensive hype.

ok, so finally got around to watching both ads.
i don't get either of them. and i'm not really anti-Windows either. the ad just doesn't seem to make a strong point. but i've never been a huge seinfeld fan so maybe that's why i'm missing it?

How could anyone be a "fan" of a ad campaign anyway?
