I'm cheering a move made by Microsoft. WTF!!! Head explodes as improbablility drive pushes past flying spaghetti monster.

But to anyone who may happen to work for Microsoft or another large "Apple-hating company", provide the masses with reasonably priced quality apps and their credit cards will follow.

Does this mean there are now Cocoa versions of Outlook and OneNote*.

My, my, things have changed.

* I imagine this is a companion to the desktop software, rather than a feature for feature port. Still, it opens up the possibility in the future. I do feel a bit sorry for the Windows Phone 7 team at Microsoft. This is a big vote of no confidence in their platform from the Office team. And I do believe that kind of politics goes on, because the Office team refused to make a tablet version in the past because the didn't believe in the form factor. Could you imagine someone from the iWork team refusing to port to iPad because they didn't believe in the form factor!?

Do you have ANY idea what you are talking about?

First, how is this a vote of no confidence in Windows phone 7, OneNote is a default app on Windows Phone 7. Is Apple releasing Safari a big vote of no confidence in OS X by the Safari Dev team?

Also, when has Microsoft ever refused to believe in the form factor? Microsoft heavily pushed tablet pcs LONG BEFORE THE IPAD, even with slate tablets from Motion Computing. What about the HP slate which was demonstrated BEFORE the iPad was demonstrated?

Also it requires iOS v4.2... I need to get around to updating my phone so I can check this out.

It is also not a universal app and there is no native iPad version, so millions of iPad users are out of the picture. And MS is silent as to whether any iPad version is forthcoming.

Good to see Microsoft in the competition, but I'm not sure why those needing this functionality wouldn't have already gone for Evernote or any of the many, many similar products in that area that do the exact same thing.

Yes... thanks microsoft. There IS life outside the US lol..

Not available in the UK app store. Great.

I would imagine that it would be in their best interest to show how good they are with the current competition (Smartphones) But not to draw attention away from upcoming platforms (Win8 Tablets)

This might be the first step in a very interesting direction.
I have a dream....well,two of them actually: MS Office 2011 for Mac and Office for iPad-both on the AppStore......guess I want too much though...:(

Very good point. Why support MS that royally screws Apple and users. Their Office Suite for Mac is not even on par with Windows version.

I use Evernote for this functionality, has anyone any reason to use Onenote over the free to use Evernote? Which includes versions for Mac, PC, & iOS?

Just curious.

My sister uses one note to take all her university notes. It has a nice feature where you can record sound and it is embedded with the text you type, so you can look at a note and hear what was being said as you typed it. It looks a good program and will be great on the iPad.

"Free," what is this "free" you speak of from Microsoft? I was scanning for $ signs.

As opposed to the endless list of free products from Apple?

Have you even used Office 2011? OneNote aside, its actually really good. I'm not a big fan of Microsoft (nor their previous versions of Office for Mac) but to give credit where it is due, Office 2011 is actually very good compared to Office for Windows. And frankly you're not using their OS, why should they even bother catering for mac users? As someone else said, have you even used iTunes on a PC?

I use Evernote too for this kind of thing. And it looks like I won't be able to use it on my iPhone since I'm jailbroken and still on 4.1. I'll install it on my iPod Touch to give it a test run.

Requires a Windows Live account to use, otherwise it's worthless.

Hitting delete now...

I wonder if they will release OneNote for Mac ... Hope it will make it to the App Store!

Has anyone heard anything about this?

Considering that iOS is based on OSX it is quite possible that MS is already working on an OSX version. They already have the base code from the iOS version now they just have to work on the UI for the Mac.

I hope this does well and MS ports the whole office suite to iOS.

Yep, can't even take it for a spin without a Windows Live account.

Probably a non-starter in this regard, but I'm still mulling it over.
