Microsoft Office for iOS is what is needed. At least PowerPoint for computerless presentations. The ultimate presentation tool!

hmmm...
I downloaded, but it looks like you have to have a Windows Live ID to use it. If that means you have to be on-line to use it, I'll be deleting, particularly since my work firewall blocks Windows Live (because of the web mail), so it'll be pretty useless if that's necessary.
Can't MS do anything without onerous lock-in?

12 Days of Christmas? Perhaps not...

And what else? Compared to the Windows Live suite which includes six free (and useful) applications. Then there is the Security program and so on. And those 12 free items - did you like all of them? I only liked about two.

But beyond the 12 days of christmas (if you really count that, the overall cost probably wasn't over £20?), do they provide much else for free?

Well I imagine they believe most users will be syncing it with the PC application. I would have thought it would be somewhat useless if it didn't have any sync functionality (not that it might, I've not tried the app yet).

Yep typical Microsoft.

And we all know that Apple would never do that.

.....Have you ever used iTunes on Windows ????

I tried, but it was very sluggish on an 8 core workstation with 16 GiB of RAM....

Same error here. I verified that my Hotmail credentials are valid.

Once I made it past the login error, it gives an error 500, unable to sync. Trying to press any button other than settings leads to "waiting for sync to complete". Cannot get it to work.

I loved OneNote and used it heavily for school related stuff. It kept me using a PC for longer than I otherwise would have, and still greatly miss OneNote while still in school. iOS is a nice start, but if it came to OSX, there would be no other logical choice for students.

Requires a Windows Live account to use, otherwise it's worthless.

Of course you need a Live account, the app uses Live SkyDrive to sync your notes from your PC. That much is specifically said in the OP.

And you do know that you can add a Windows Live account to any existing e-mail address, right? You don't actually need an @live.com or @hotmail.com address.

I've been using my Gmail account to log into Windows Live for years now, and it works just fine. Just go here and stop whining about a free app.

That said...I hope this comes to the Great White North soon. I use OneNote all the time at school, this would be very handy.

I use Evernote for this functionality, has anyone any reason to use Onenote over the free to use Evernote? Which includes versions for Mac, PC, & iOS?

Just curious.

At least from my experience, Evernote excels as an inbox/collection mechanism (where its OCR really shines), whereas OneNote excels when you want to synthesize the raw data into more focused notebooks.

While OneNote on iPad may very well be compelling, the program really is a 'digital notebook' so having stylus support is still needed to get 100% out of the program in my opinion. It'd be interesting to see if OneNote evolves to match the iPad before the Windows 7/8 slates come out, by which time it may be too late.

Do you have ANY idea what you are talking about?

Why is it that whenever I get asked this question it is usually by people with of less clue than me?

First, how is this a vote of no confidence in Windows phone 7, OneNote is a default app on Windows Phone 7.
Because OneNote (a proprietary technology which is highly regarded) is no longer a Windows Phone exclusive.

Is Apple releasing Safari a big vote of no confidence in OS X by the Safari Dev team?
Every platform has a web browser. It is no advantage to Mac OS X to have a web browser.

The parellel would be if Garage Band or iMovie were released for Windows.

Only Windows and Windows Phone 7 had OneNote. Well, until today. You really think that Microsoft would be doing this if Windows Phone had anything like parity with iOS and Android?

Also, when has Microsoft ever refused to believe in the form factor? Microsoft heavily pushed tablet pcs LONG BEFORE THE IPAD, even with slate tablets from Motion Computing. What about the HP slate which was demonstrated BEFORE the iPad was demonstrated?

Microsoft’s Creative Destruction

Another example: When we were building the tablet PC in 2001, the vice president in charge of Office at the time decided he didn’t like the concept. The tablet required a stylus, and he much preferred keyboards to pens and thought our efforts doomed. To guarantee they were, he refused to modify the popular Office applications to work properly with the tablet.

I believe “owned” in the correct term in internet parlance, no?

See!

Microsoft is still good for...............nothing. I guess they're just going to have to rely on their office suites to help them stay out of the red. Good luck!

Why can't they just make a full Office App for iOS?

Thanks for the tip, I just installed Evernote, which works on my iPhone (original) whereas Onenote only works on 4.2 or higher. THANKS!

Downloaded the app, tried to login, got an error; "Login failed, error: 400"

Anyone else? I tried to login at live.com and my account works fine.

I tried my external/personal domain that is associated with a Live ID (but has not inbox support) and got the same error. Tried my much older Hotmail account and it worked. Wondering if the lack of an inbox on that account caused the issue?

Edit: Logged out and back in...failed. Wondering if this is just a network/server load issue? Perhaps more people jumping on at once than the expected?

Yep, can't even take it for a spin without a Windows Live account.

Probably a non-starter in this regard, but I'm still mulling it over.

Because it uses your Live ID to sync to the cloud. Seriously, why is this a problem?

There is intelligent life outside of the Continental US ;)

That's not what I was taught in school. :p

I had a difficult time logging in. Then it won't sync. Typical Microsoft half baked software. They'll fix it so that it works in the next update. Whatever. I've already deleted the app from my iPhone. And it requires Office 2010 for some features. I'm surprised it doesn't require temp and a registery.

Can't MS do anything without onerous lock-in?
Can't Apple build a phone without locking people out?
A whale sized 30 pin dock connector?
Locked out of the battery compartment?
Cheated out of a non proprietary memory slot?
And on, and on, and________
