The credibility meter was already low by the time I read "...one analyst is predicting..."

It's not entirely impossible (however improbable) the Ballmer would appear on stage for some joint venture, but there's no way in hell it can be iPhone & Mac development. You're talking about 2.8GB of libraries and tools on the Mac...Apple of all people aren't going to allow anyone to put those onto another OS for development purposes, as it would undermine everything they've been working towards with the latest dev agreements debacle.

Maybe Ballmer's coming on stage to tell everyone Obj-C is going to replace C++ in 2010.

:p

According to Trip Chowdhry, an analyst with tiny Global Equities Research, 7 minutes of Steve Jobs' keynote is allotted for Microsoft.

Let's see, 2 minutes to sweatily bounce around the stage screaming "GIVE IT UP FOR ME!" leaving 5 minutes to even more sweatily chant "DEVELOPERS" while beating your monkey fist into your palm.

But seriously, This is like old school nemesis’ joining together in the face of upstart challengers who are stabbing you in the back while smiling to your face, telling you "I'm not evil"

Really?

Why anyone would want ANY microsoft software on any hardware platform is beyond me.

Is unstable, slow, virus ridden software the "in" thing these days?

Come on, if your going to let microsoft in why not let Adobe join the party and make the iPhone completely useless.

It's great that the Mac platform is becoming more appealing to developers, but I like the fact that Mac software is written by Mac users. They know how the UI works, they now what Mac users want. This is partly why Mac software is often so much better than its PC equivalent. If PC users start writing Mac software on PCs, then we'll end up with just as much crap software as PC users have to put up with. :(
Interesting perspective.

Well, some folks might like applications that Microsoft creates. :)

If this is true and new Visual Studio will be able to create Apps for the iPhone then fear that's a move on Apple's side to get rid of the big Macs. They don't put a lot of effort into OS X lately, Mac Pro hasn't been updated, the Apple Pro Apps are staring to lag behind other pro software...
They make money on the iPhone and iPad.

There is absolutely NO WAY this is going to happen. NO WAY.

If this ends up being true, I will give $1000 to any charity of MacRumors choice.

Ethan

I'm not saying that it will happen but I remember these types of comments about Apple switching to Intel. Those "NO WAY" and "NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN" comments look pretty funny now...

Personally, how could you NOT want a sweaty, jumpy Steve Ballmer screaming at the audience??

Secretly, I use Visual Studio all the time (I really do, its made me lots of money over the years) so I would actually like to see VS on the Mac. I remain skeptical...

Not enough to donate a $1000.00 to charity like Ethan though. :p

This is not true. while I will agree that Adobe's obj-c compilation in the end will be less performant and optimized than something that would have been compiled by the official SDK, your statement is completely incorrect.

Applications running other code have been banned from the App Store since day one. Only now, with the latest SDK updates have cross compilers been banned. Cross compilers are applications that allow you to write code in language A, ultimately compiling it to language B. So in the end you will be getting two completely native Obj-C applications.

I don't think Ballmer will be on stage to announce iPhone development in Visual Studio. With the upcoming release of Office:mac 2011 they will probably be talking about that or something we haven't heard of yet.

Agreed. If this story *is* true, then Steve really has lost the plot, because the regulators will absolutely throw the book at them.

Phazer

the announcement will be that Apple is going to create hardware for microsoft mobile OS, because nobody else will.

Hasn't anyone been paying attention lately, This will be about implementing silverlight video on the iPhone and iPad from a server perspective.

So everyone can calm down now.....

Anyway, it feels good. I can imagine the upset that some people experience now - these events need different guests.

At least it'd be easier to listen to him than Roz Ho.

Just watch out for his version of the distortion field...

So we will be able to make iPad/iPhone apps on a Windows machine. This must be Apple's way of saying that if you need a high end computer look to Windows and not a Mac Pro.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My eyes... THEY BURN!!!

Reporting that monkey-boy Ballmer could be speechifying [could a little stage-dancing be in the cards as well? Inquiring minds... are frickin' scared!!!] at WWDC is alright but seriously, plastering that neanderthal's mug on the front-page of MR?!!!

SPOILER * SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *SPOILER *

I will post it again because no one is listening

"Monkeyboy"? "Neanderthal"? You're making me sick.

This is the dumbest and most far-fetched rumor I've ever read.

Just weeks ago Steve Jobs explained why Apple will not allow cross-compilers to be used for iPhone development. It is his biggest explanation why Flash cross compiler is not allowed.

So now Microsoft will be allowed to do this?

No way.

The expansion of developer tools to include Visual Studio would simply be a way to bring native code development to developers that do not have access to a Mac or are simply more comfortable with the Visual Studio interface and environment.

Why would Apple want that? Coding on another platform=less Mac sales. So I see no advantage here. If someone really wants to write for the iPhone/iPad platforms, the cost of a Mac isn't THAT expensive.

I just don't see this happening. Now the Bing thing....maybe.

Apple should introduce this as the “Open Development Initiative” and introduce Microsoft as their first Select Partner. Play Adobe at their own game and annoy them at the same time.

7 minutes... hmmm, no connection with Windows 7?

No.

I see a lot of people who do not know anything about software development and know very little about the history of Apple/Next.

After Steve Jobs came back to Apple, there was a beta release of something called Yellow Box. Google "Yellow Box Windows". It was available for windows and it included development tools including Interface Builder which is still part of the Dev tools for OS X. Project Builder was eventually replaced by X-Code.

So if there was any truth to this rumour, Apple would have ported Interface builder over to windows so that you could design an iPhone OS UI just like you can on OS X.

There have always been whispers (albeit quiet) Yellow Box lives as a secret project. This may be less credible if their wasn't a precedent. Everyone had assumed Apple/NeXT had forgotten all about the NeXTSTEP version which compiled for x86. That was until about 5 years ago.
