Really interesting piece of tech and amazingly engineered hardware, if MKBHD is to be believed. I wouldn't be an early adopter for sure, but I'm curious how it will evolve.

I wish Apple could also take some bold new hardware/software direction instead of 3 year old notches, AR gimmicks, Memoji and sh!tty TV shows. Something more courageous than removing a headphone jack.

Apple doesn’t want to be like MS or Samsung releasing half assed products to see what sticks. Those type of actions tarnish a brand.

I don't want Apple to release half assed anything, otherwise I wouldn't have stood by them since the iMac G5 and the iPhone 3G. But I do expect them to work their asses off to deliver solid new products and designs after every 2 years or so, like they used to, especially if I am to pay €1300 for a bloody phone.

Air Tags, Apple Studio Headphones, new iPhone design, iPad, processor platform switch, and a new iOS coming within a month. Clearly Apple has been working their asses off!

Like they used to? The iMac has had the same design language since 2004. The classic Mac Pro (and G5) design lasted 10 years. We all want revolutionary changes for good, but that takes a lot of hard work. If you create a solid foundation, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to completely throw it in 2 years and bring something better. And speaking of features, I think phones have bigger changes in 2 years than computers used to, but obviously it’s not as exponential as in the first years of the modern smartphone.

The device hardware itself is gorgeous. But foldable devices in and of themselves are stupid. Couple that with the bad reviews the software has received and we can add another supposed “the future” of smartphones to the boneyard of failed ridiculous gadgets that only the echo chamber of Youtube bloggers who get them for free could love.

I don’t think most of people treat it like a phone, and the review quoted in this thread does not mention its phone function...
Right but think about the people using an iPad mini vs people embedded deep in the Microsoft ecosystem (corporate comes to mind).

Also, I think it's pretty safe to say that this is intentionally priced this high because we aren't supposed to buy it. As it stands, imo, this is serving a very niche target audience.

All that aside, I'm excited to see tech going in weird directions. I miss it. How many glass slabs with a camera slapped on the back do we need to see? The weird stuff shouldn't get shot down. It's ****ing cool.

Yes, this should be as it is now around 399-499$
People should not accept this kind of buggy device, people should vote with their wallets for microosft to make a better gen 2
After surface pro x, now this...Microsoft wake up

Yeah but it if had an Apple sticker on it would be sold oand the greatest thing since sliced bread huh?

People make fun of it, but I actually like the concept. Could see this kind of phone be your workphone (as in the phone your company provides), the 2 screens are good for scheduling calls, productivity, etc.

Obviously this concept still has ways to go. Would I buy this over an iPhone? Absolutely not. Would I choose this over an iPhone if my employer gave me the choice. Maybe.

I don't think this would sell even with an Apple sticker on it. Price tag is insane and the design is horrendous. Usability is low as well. Apple won't jump into the foldable market any time soon.

This won't become popular because it's just plain ugly. Just look at the hinge joints

Yesterday was rumored, Apple purchased tons of foldable screens from Samsung

I could see Apple going this route for a foldable, but the screen would come together to look like a single screen with no seam.

Yeah it should be a foldable, not 2 separate screens.
This device is ok if you plan to use 2 apps side by side, but when you want to use a single app full screen that gap in the middle is really annoying.
The camera also sucks, because you have to turn the device and use the selfie camera.
Some features are good, but I wouldn't buy this device even for half the price.

I don’t remember the last time I have seen Apple release a product which had a Apple sticker on it. And you are suggesting that the Microsoft Duo is the greatest thing since sliced bread?

Apple R&D. Does not mean much until Apple releases a product which may never happen. I am sure Apple has already put together several foldable display prototypes. Could also be the case that Apple is evaluating the quality of the current generation foldable display material.
