So I am still no seeing the big picture here.

I guess everyone is going to develop cancer, since the world is littered with all kinds of radio waves and the like.

Bummer.

P.S. Who cares?

your statement conflicts with fundamental self preservation instincts every species alive is equipped with.
if your thinking prevails, we will be this planet's first species to grow extinct that saw its own demise coming and did **** all about it.
the age of stupid, i guess.

Okay, I get it, this is a joke thread, right?

Seriously, no harm will come to you simply by being exposed to wi-fi signals. Good grief.

That's like saying you have a chance of drowning due to the moisture in the air you breathe.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. Surely this guy is effing with us...

for the rest; i was expecting some of the feedback to my OP, but the sort of aggressive and nasty comments kinda surprised and saddened me... but then again, not. ignorance has always been compensated with arrogance.

You got a legitimate scientific response as your very first response. If you want to block radio waves, you need to either surround yourself with a grounded conductor, or surround the source with a grounded conductor. It's called a Faraday cage. It's why TV uses coaxial cable, and why it works so wonderfully. It's also why people who live in trailers (with metal siding) can't pick up TV channels or radio stations unless the antenna is in the window. So, really, if you are serious about blocking radio waves, you need a grounded conductor.

I tried really really really hard not to make fun of you right off the bat, and I didn't. Also, when you go ranting about conspiracy theories, people also stop listening (which is what you were doing by claiming that the only people doing the research and that scientists in general are biased or have been bought out).

For the record, I use my macbook pro on my balls all the time to watch movies, after all it's a laptop right?

And if you think that your going to get cancer than their are two reasons:
1: Your body is far inferior than mine.
2: Your easily intimated.

and off topic...
Global Warming is indeed fake based on the "facts" that have been presented. It's not conclusive and does not debunk the other more prominent theories.

I clicked on the link. It is hard to believe that anyone pays that kind of money for something that does absolutely nothing.

It is, and they do. On the other hand, they claim it will reduce stress, but if you believe EM fields are bad from you, and you believe this will reduce them, then the placebo effect will kick in, and you'll be less stressed out.

Btw, here's what my customers use, and I don't laugh at them to their faces either:

Sometimes, I wish I had the balls to peddle crap like this.

It's because of things like this that I believe Physics, not English, should be compulsory in senior high school. This is just sad. Especially when they have E/M field badness stories on those semi-news shows like "Today Tonight". It's disgraceful.

To the OP: Based on pure physics, microwaves cannot cause cancer, as they do not have sufficient energy to break apart molecules, thereby damaging DNA.

Also, you mentioned that absence of evidence is no evidence of absence. This is true. But it also is true that just because someone discovers that mobile phone and wi-fi users have a higher incidence of cancer, does not mean microwaves cause cancer. There can be unrelated reasons. For example, people who overuse their mobiles are more likely to be cityfolk, and are therefore surrounded by more concrete than countryfolk. Concrete contains traces of Uranium, which does cause cancer.

Just remember, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. ;)
gamma ray radiation = incredible hulk:D

there is no escaping the various radiation sources present in everyday life on earth. You can mitigate some, for example using the faraday cage as suggested, but you will always be exposed. If em/wifi/radio/microwave/etc radiation bothers you so much, and you are concerned enough, you will stop using electronic devices, or you could wear a full body emf clothing and/or underwear. ;) BTW, if you place your laptop on a desk while using it, the desk will block a portion of the radiation.... esp. the infrared (heat) radiation that mbps are known for.

u know there was a time once where we didn't have those toys... and life wasn't terrible then.

i'm not going to get into the science debate with you as you're pretty adamant about the "we can never be totally sure" angle, and whatever, you're entitled to that opinion.

but it does strike me as a little odd that you're posting quotes like the above, implying that we are spoiled by technology (which again is an opinion you're entitled to), but yet you can't seem to even compromise yourself to find a table to work at, as apple themselves recommends this in their manual - albeit to avoid heat burns, not wifi radiation.

Finally, you were claiming no one was helping you with your original question, but as many have pointed out, "blocking the wifis" is tantamount to turning them off, so you might as well just do that.

Lots of times I hear about people who refuse to have cell phones or microwave ovens or wifi, and then I find out the same people also don't use sunscreen at the beach, smoke, drink lots of alcohol, don't wear seat belts, and drive while intoxicated. If you want to be safe at least think of more than possible effects of radiation. Suppose you somehow manage to avoid all radiation in your house and then step out the front door and get struck by lightning?

woah, this is bad, worse than i guessed...what is this, a foxnews tv educated forum?
i dont have time to go on with this, you're resistant to the obvious and your counterarguments are mostly comparisons that are just apple and melons.
i rest my case. i guess its some sort of natural selection thing.

i was initially of the mind that you were just someone wanting to play it safe, but now i'm just going to call you out on being an ass. you ignore people that have made useful comments because you just want to argue. how was my advice not valid? here it is again, in case you "missed it":

apple 'notebooks' are not even recommended to be used in the lap, so if you're concerned about the effects, find some surface other than your lap.

in fact, if you are concerned that companies are actually paying to have studies hidden and this stuff is actually causing serious damage, why the hell are you even considering ways to make it work on your lap?

you said we got by without all these toys before, so surely you can find some alternative to lounging on a couch with your computer in your lap.

maybe you don't hear what you sound like, so let me paraphrase your apparent stance on things:

"you guys are stupid sheep who are ignoring the damage that radio waves could potentially be causing because you're so addicted to your devices. ps how can i use my wifi device on my lap cuz i really need to use it like that"

^^ thanks for that Steve.

I don't think you (OP) understand how the world works. Maybe your just a social reject and you don't know how information is exchanged between two humans... So let me tell you how it works...
You state a question, at which point you listen to the responses. don't forget to listen.
Then, you may be polite if you wish and thank the responders, after that you state your counterargument, you do this for clarification. It's not about being right or wrong, or who's better than whom, it's about clarifying all the assumptions made and getting the best information out. You clearly want to feed your ego by bossing everyone around and calling them idiots.

But the fact of the matter is... you don't even know how a conversation works and you don't have proper behavior.

Please exit yourself from the premisses.

The physics have been explained to you. What has proven scientific facts have to do with a news service? (It's at this point I have to ask what your background is, and how it can possibly be used to come up any rational argument to what's been presented to you. It can't, but I'll take the high road and ask...)

Exactly.

Problem solved!

OP, in my humble opinion, you are a fool, and if this truly concerns you, you should not be on a computer at all.

We were thinking exactly the same of you... that you must have gotten your information from some sensationalist source that blatantly ignores real science. You have made absolutely no legitimate science-based counterarguments, and to us, it's obvious that you're confused.

Yes, it is some natural selection thing. Obviously, natural selection does not favor the more intelligent and less credulous; it only favors those that breed more.
