I really want to use the Apple Store app but am not sure if that will work. When I am in it now, it has subsidized pricing and I plan on paying full price. Hoping when I click Continue (when it's not greyed out) that it will give me the option, but just to be safe I may try to get the web page up on my laptop at the same time.

That's a good idea.

If im upgrading with at&t next, do I have to pay anything through the app at the time of purchase? Trying to figure out what I need to do and how much money I need on the card im using since i've never done an upgrade with "next" before.

OK, so, very dumb question/speculation/post, but.....no one seems to have mentioned this--will the 6S even be available in Apple Stores on the 25th, or this just an ass-u-me-umption everyone is making? Don't recall anyone on stage on Wednesday explicitly stating "will also be available in Apple Stores starting on the 25th."

Just hoping this isn't another online-ordering-only situation a la Apple Watch vis a vis Angela Ahrendts (sp?).

Make sure your installment plan with AT&T is 100% paid off. If you've had Next before you probably have (or had) a balance on the phone. That needs to be $0 before you can upgrade. I found out the hard way last year and needed to pay it off then stood in line to get a 6+ on launch day.

With that said, you shouldn't be required to pay anything when you order tonight.

Just did a dummy run.. It sucks that my credit union hasn't supported Apple Pay yet. But I'll have to enter in my password for my AppleID which would in return use the payment on file... So, most likely I'll just use copy & paste for a quick process.

Similar problem for me- I am purchasing from the app for the first time and on a 5S, so I assume that since apple pay isn't available the only method to pay quickly would be to similarly paste in the apple id password and proceed to checkout with the card on file, right? Is it agreed here that there is no way to pay using touchID without Apple pay like in the app store? Not a big deal, just wondering...

What's the window for receiving it on launch day? I've never done preorder... I'd always just got my iPhone at the Apple Store.

Varies widely. A few hours when the particular model is not in high demand. Seconds when the model is in very high demand or production constrained. The Apple Watch was the worst case so far. I think it took less than a minute. But 30 min to 1 hr is more typical.

Yeah... There's no other way unfortunately. I don't understand the point of TouchID if it's not allowed to bypass the password within the Apple Store App. Heck, Amazon does this.... Why haven't Apple implemented this is beyond me.

But I haven't gone through the entire steps... But choosing anything other than Apple Pay would allow to enter in the AppleID password. I'm just hoping the process goes quickly for me.

Well you aren't recalling very well at all! They explicitly stated the phones will not be in stores until the 25th.

Had they not said anything, most people would assume it would be next Friday the 18th just like every other year..

I think the Watch launch was just a dreadful experience both for Apple & Consumers. With this being the "S" model... I'm optimistic that stock wouldn't be so constrained.

Yes, because 12 AM PST is 3AM Eastern
YES and NO. If it works like last time, EACH time zone preorder starts at midnight. So YES, but by 3AM and maybe even 1AM, all the first day orders will be sold.

In order to make this work, the servers would have to know what zone you're accessing the order site from (be it ATT, etc).

And I thought that due to the fact that it was a laptop and not an iPhone, I would be able to avoid online ordering altogether and just waltz into the apple store amidst the apple watch frenzied mob, and quietly sneak out with the new 12" MB. Boy was I wrong... Take no chances here.

You are completely clueless, please stop misleading people. It's always been at the same time regardless of time zone.

I wasn't going to get up at 3am to order my phone. Now I am, because I'm always waking up in the middle
of the night..Can't count how many times I've looked at my clock by my bed to see 3 am.

Comparing the iPhone to the laptop is different as well. The rMB was hard to get due to the fact it was first of its kind. Same with the Watch.... This is an "S" model, of course... There are some changes, but it's not a drastic change over the previous model.

No doubt. I don't disagree. All I am saying is that there may be an occasional gap between expectations and reality in terms of supply and demand during these launches. It is difficult to estimate accurately.

This is actually a phone the was subsidized previously and we are switching to NEXT with it this year. There are already other phones on the account that use next but this phone is just now available for upgrade via next this year. Do you have to pay anything at time of purchase for a new "next" phone when switch from old 2yr contract style to next for this first time?

I agree with being able to estimate.. No telling Apple might end up having some issues with the displays causing short supplies.

There's a big button that says "buy a contract-free iPhone"

sorry but you are WRONG! it's midnight APPLE TIME.... WHICH IS PACIFIC TIME

so preorder for east coast does not begin until 3a.m.

I'm debating between ordering online no matter what or going to the store if it isn't going to be delivered on launch day. Last year I ordered mine online but due to repeated failing of the app/website it didn't get delivered until like a week later. For my wife's we went to the store and despite our outdoor mall being idiots that prefer an uncontrolled stampede at 5AM as opposed to a peaceful line, my wife got hers day one. That said, I couldn't get mine then because the ATT Next order had already gone through...

Also, you do NOT have to have your previous ATT Next phone paid all the way off, just the first 12, 18 or 24 payments already paid depending on which Next plan you are on. My phones were both on that 12th payment since we got 6+'s and both the Apple App and ATT say I can get the new phone, I just have to trade in the old one within 14 days. No big deal since the remaining balance and the price I would get selling the phone are pretty much exactly the same.
