Wow, this has to be one of the few times in history that reviews have started happening on an Apple product the same day it was released!

iPod shuffle, iPod mini, iPod 2½G (4th chronological) to name a few.

Is there any option to turn the mouse speaker sound off?

I seriously need to know this too! The hassle of right clicking sounds like a pain too... I was going to order one tonight, but after reading this thread, I'll take my time and try it out before I buy it, since Apple charges a 10% restocking fee.

My Apple Store was sold out, but they did have demo models....

Using it was very very very cool... I had no trouble right clicking or clicking the middle button... worked gloriously.. squeezing it and having the dashboard come up = coolest thing ever...

and the lack of BT was fine... The cord didn't trip me as I walked nor did my fingers get tangled in it nor did it inexplicably wrap itself around my throat and choke me... :p

Can anyone answer this:

On the current Pro mice, when you squeeze the side buttons while clicking the click is 'held' - for example, when I click and drag the scroll bar in safari, I squeeze the side buttons and lift the mouse to reposition it so I can scroll further, and the mouse 'keeps hold' of the scroll bar while it is in the air.

On the Mighty Mouse, the side buttons work as a button, but do they also still have this functionality of maintaining the down-click?

Good question. I use the hold-click-in-the-air a whole lot so I'd like to know the answer to this also.

However, the current Apple wired one-button mouse is called the Apple Mouse. The Apple Pro Mouse has been gone for a while now. The difference is that the Pro mouse has a tension adjustment wheel on the bottom. The current mouse does not.

I originally was going to wait until the wireless version of this mouse came out.

But I completely hosed our Xserve today, and needed to buy a wired keyboard and mouse so I could re-install OS X server.

So now I am going to be the proud new owner of a Might Mouse.

I'll still buy the wireless version when released...and I hope it comes sooner rather than later...

The SF store was sold out by the time I showed up early evening, and people were using them, so I didn't get a chance to try one out. Oh well.

The clerk said there is a chance the SF store will have some tomorrow...

haha, i found it funny how he talks about having nice looking Apple gear to go along with each other and isnt afraid to pay a premium for it, but he shows a picture of his setup before hand and the mac mini is the only Apple product on the table.

Hmm.. so iSight is not an Apple product?

hey guys,
here's a review:
http://www.russellbeattie.com/notebook/1008561.html

he didn't mention anything about difficulty with right button clicking

He writes:

"Also, as has been reported, right or middle clicking requires you to remove your other fingers from the mouse. I've had a few mis-clicks because of this, but it's nothing so bad that I won't get used to it quickly."

so, actually, I would call this a difficulty with right button clicking.

All this having to remove fingers from the mouse to right click, I just checked how I click and I remove all fingers anyway.

It's very dissappointing to me that you can't click the right click and left click buttons at the same time. Being able to do that is important in games and mouse gestures. :(

Oh well, I'm happy with my logitech. :)

This is my worry too. I have a few mice, and on each of them this can actually be a difficult operation due to them placing buttons on the side where normally you'd hold the mouse, so it's difficult to lift the mouse without clicking the side buttons or releasing the left mouse button. I'm very interested how easy this is with the Mighty Mouse.

Ohhh man. I just ordered last saturday an Apple bluetooth mouse. Now this one comes out. My BT mouse has already shipped together with my new iBook.

What should I do - wireless vs. 4 buttons. Arrghhh  :(

And thanks a lot for the review.

Or... go with a 3rd party solution and have both... I just ordered this mouse--

Obviously I don't know how good it is, although it's been getting good reviews. I like how it has a USB charger-cable.

Well stop worrying you two, because the side thingies still function in the way you mention. You have to purposefully squeeze it to get the button to register. Simply holding it won't do anything, for when you want to lift while holding the mouse. Look, I just lifted my mouse and clicked the Submit Reply button. No problem.

I see a large number of people flipping out about the right click action.

I went down to my local Apple Store yesterday and played with the mouse, to see what this right click anxiety was all about.

Turns out I naturally lift my left finger slightly as I right click, which is exactly what the mouse expects. In a survey of coworkers, this behavior seems pretty common.

The squeeze takes a pretty intentional squeeze to activate -- it's not like those irritating MS/Logi mice with the clicky side buttons. You will not mistakenly activate this while lifting the mouse. Unless you're really, really strong.

That said, I would not want to use squeeze for a particularly common task. While it's not difficult, it ain't exactly something I'd want to do every few seconds. Expose seems like a good use.

I did not purchase the mouse. I found the scroll ball kind of hard to use with my large hands. Vertical scrolling was reasonably straightforward (heh), but horizontal scrolling required me to repeatedly push the ball in one direction, getting tiny movements each time. Ick.

I'll probably pick one up when they go BT.

That's interesting. I've just realized that I naturally lift my index finger when right-clicking as well. I'll have to get one of these the next time I'm in Tampa.

So THAT's what's at the bottom of my mouse!

Have your guy's orders shipped yet? Mines still processing...

Ordered mine yesterday (Tuesday) around 7:30A PDT with my employer discount ($45 for those interested) and the free shipping. It shipped later that day via FedEx Home Ground and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow (Thursday). I noticed yesterday afternoon that the online store delivery estimate changed from "Same Day" to "2-4 Business Days". My friend's order is still processing and he ordered last night.

Took me a long time to figure that out, too. One of the few times I think I actually read an Apple manual.

I've yet to notice a difference between the two settings, however.

According to the Ars Technica review, the mouse speaker is only for the scroll button and squeeze buttons and is all but inaudible.

I went to my local apple store today and yes, it does still allow you to do that. its a little bit more cumbersome than on the pro mice though 'cuz its really easy to "accidentally" activete the associated action instead of hold the click.

Also, the right click really is too strange for me. Apple, you really dropped the ball on this one. On that note, you do have to make sure that your left finger is completely off the mouse before right clicking. And why can't you have the different squeeze buttons do different actions!

Basically, until a 3rd party app comes out to address these issues (if its even possible) I won't buy the might mouse.
