I've been using my new Mighty Mouse for 2 days now and I love it. The scroll ball is incredible. It takes such little effort to scroll. I naturally pick up my left finger when I right click so that was never an issue.

Also, I 've been using a MX1000 mouse and didn't realize how heavy that cordless mouse was. The Mighty Mouse is so light and moves effortlessly my mouse pad. I've moved the MX1000 to a secondary computer.

Anyway, I'm really enjoying this mouse. It's all about the scroll ball. Love it.

I just want to know why it isn't bluetooth! I already have a great five-button wired mouse. :(

Another bummer, it looks like the two side buttons are just one button and you have to push them both at the same time? Is this true?

can yo use it with dashboard and expose?

Totally agree. The scroll ball ROCKS. The fact that it is still a one button mouse that has two virtual buttons is also incredible. The side buttons are kind of an extra that I only use for Dashboard, but still dig them none the less...

Before I jumped into this thread I had just looked down at my new Apple Mouse and shook my head. They finally did it

Mighty Mess

I have several major problems with this mouse:

1) Lifting my left finger in order to register a right click generates significant forearm discomfort after extended use.

2) Since the whole mouse IS the button, you cannot click both left and right butons at the same time. This eliminates an otherwise valid click combination which I use heavily in a certain game.

3) The "squeeze" button requires far too much effort to execute, and usually requires repositioning the hand.

4) The cord is simply too short.

5) The mouse itself is too light.

6) The laser appears erratic compared to my bluetooth apple mouse. I am unable to get consistent tracking on any service even after checking/cleaning the laser and surface for dust, etc.

Kind of bummed I spent $50 on this thing. My microsoft wheel mouse is better... :(

Mighty Mouse Review

Just received my Mighty Mouse.

Installation: Smooth
Look & Feel: Just like my Pro Mouse

Functionality: (here goes)

The horizontal scrolling is weak.
Diagnol? No such thing.. it's either Vertical or Horizontal. Horizontal being very very limited. The vertical scrolling is perfect and very accurate.

The side buttons are cool. You only need to squeeze one of them for it to activate. Which brings up the argument of why they couldn't have made them independent from each other if we chose it with the software. Who knows?

The Scroll Ball button is cool, BUT they don't give us many options on what the button will do. I usually assign my Scroll button to "Back" in my browser and this is not possible.

I'm a bit disappointed only for the fact that it was $49.
The mouse is cool. but i can't justify the cost.

Definately a collectors item.

Actually yes there is diagonal scrolling. It's just very badly implemented and hard to achieve. Try opening a huge image, such as this lovely picture and try it. Most of the time it doesn't work, but sometimes you do get it to scroll diagonally. Agree with you, it needs work, it's not the smooth scroll-anywhere ability the scrollball should provide.

Also, notice that the scroll is size-sensitive. If you come to a very short webpage, the scrolling will be incredibly slow. On a very long one, it will be incredibly fast. Same with side-scrolling. 90% of webpages are much longer than they are wide, so that's why side-scrolling seems so slow. Again peruse the lovely picture above to test and verify this observation.

The Scroll Ball button is cool, BUT they don't give us many options on what the button will do. I usually assign my Scroll button to "Back" in my browser and this is not possible.

On every of the buttons you can make it do ANYTHING you want. How? AppleScript. Use Automator to make an function that registers the "back" function in Safari, and then go to the pref pane, and choose "Other" in the menu of your desired button, and direct it to the AppleScript you created. This is POWERFUL stuff.

Anyone tried this on a PC yet?

Using KVM connecting to PC and Mac.

Does it register chords? Some programs have functions that require pressing both buttons.

I'll try that out. Just never got the hang of Automator. Any suggestions?

After further research I found this little app:

http://www.bitart.com/CocoaGestures.html

Assign gestures to any command in a Cocoa application.
Now my mighty mouse is truly Mighty.

I tried it on Linux, which is even less compatible than Windows, and it works fine - right, left, scrollball, scrollball button. The only thing that didn't work (or just didn't have a function) is the squeeze thingies.

No you can't press both buttons at the same time.

Just got one today.

Here's my findings

After scrolling around for a minute or two in Safari, i thought it needed tweaking. I turned the tracking all the way over to fast - and the mouse is now perfect.

After spending 2 years using a Logitech optical wheel mouse, I find the mighty mouse a real pleasure to use. The Logitech is good, but the wheel is clumsy where as the mighty mouse is smooth.

The squeeze buttons don't click or make a sound, I have set mine up for using the application switcher, so i can now switch between applications easier.

If you press down on the trackball you hear a micro switch click, a well hidden button. I left this set for dashboard, great for quick access to those widgets. If you press down directly in the front or behind of the trackball you don't get this middle button, its only activated by pressing down on the trackball.

I think it i will be using this mouse for a long time.

Sqeaking

My mouse has started squeaking after about 5 days of use - anyone else noticed this? It is inconsistent and mainly from the left side when I click with my left finger

i think it's random. my Pro Mouse used to squeak.
It is a mouse, so it's not surprising.

Mighty Mouse Rocks?

And I'm just a little nitpicker, because I'm wondering... anyone who have the mouse notice the thingies on the sides are a bit off-center (not exactly flush with the rest of the body)? It's very slight, but I'm just a nitpicker like that.

I like the Mighty Mouse, although I'll probably switch back to my Wacom.

As for the nitpick, yes I noticed the side thingies are off centre, I also found that it "rocks", that's to say it doesn't lay perfectly flat, is it my mouse or are they like that?

Just got mine yesterday. I love it, especially the "track ball." I was using the standard issue Apple mouse. I'll stay with Mighty Mouse. My wife was wondering if it came with a cape though<bg>!!

I ordered mine through MacMall, that's the only place where it ships same-day. Can't wait to get it . :p I'll get used to all the weird stuff of the mouse. "The human is the most adaptable living being"

After 10 days with this little MM
-Too small in my hand
-Misclicks are extremely annoying: if you're not careful a right-click may turn out to be a left-click or even a scroll

I've already given my daughter my Intellimouse wireless, so I will be waiting until I can plop down another $50-80. I think a Razer or Logitech G5 will be in order
