Because Steve Jobs is from a different planet and still believes in the "elegance" of a single-button mouse. But believe it or not, Apple has even made a WORSE input device than the Mighty Mouse. Remember the old hockey puck mouse from the original iMacs?

Pros:
- Better than the older PM "hockey pucks" ergo-wise
- Cute and simplistic looking

Cons:
- sensor placement (this goes for all mice anymore. PUT IT BACK UNDER THE FINGERTIPS!!!!!!)
- May work for some, but compared to 3rd party mice (Logitech/Microsoft), the MM sucks Donkey Nads.
- Not heavy enough (personal preference). I like my mice to have some heft. Makes use more confident.

If my Logitechs had the laser under the front/fingertip edge, I would be in heaven. I don't even bother with hoping Apple improves their mice. It's been an issue for well over a decade now. :apple:

I own a wireless mighty mouse and while the tracking is excellent, I keep worrying about the scrollpea failing. I regularly have to "clean" it to get it to scroll and being a person who is interested in personal hygiene, it seems quite odd.
It is an excellent mouse besides this and I love the squeeze buttons for Exposé.

I hate those side buttons like crazy, they activate expose when you dont want them to and are a pain in the ass to position your fingers that way when you DO want to use expose. I have expose set to a thumb button on my logitech and it couldnt be easier.

I think the Might Mouse is most treacherous for larger hands. I tried for months to get used to mine but had to give it up for an MX Revolution, sure the dongle sucks but at least carpel tunnel has slowed its advance.

I love the Mighty Mouse!

I think the scroll wheel is awesome. It's small and subtle and takes almost no effort to work. I've only used it a week and I fully expected to hate it but I love it.

The right-click works well for me, too.

I respect that so many people dislike theirs, but I'm totally digging mine.

I tried it in the Apple Store and that was the last time I used it (for 20 seconds or so), Scrolling on the lil "Mighty" nipple sent shudders down my spine as if I was scratching a blackboard full of chalk with looong nails...eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww...
I don't know if it was because the mouse was r@ped by thousands of hands but it did felt so ...

Btw: I use this microsoft wireless mouse - its still there on justdeals.com for $9.95. Worth the price, pretty ergonomic as well.

OH COMMON
What is the point of having a MICROSOFT mouse on an Apple computer.
YOu are making Bill Gates and Steve Jobs angry. But Bill Gates deserves it.

MM is perfect. Except the ball. It is pure prefection.

And right click works. WORKS.

Mighty Mouse

A few days ago i bought a mighty mouse.. Cos of the bluetooth and no receivers..

I HATE IT! When i want to press the right mouse button it doesnt respond, cos you press the left button at the same time without noticing.. I miss my back/forward buttons.. Scroll wheel is ridiculous.. And just the feel of the mouse in your hand makes me throw up..

I have been using a MX Revolution for over a year now and there is NO way a mighty mouse can beat it.. Not even close..\

Im gonna return it..!

I too have tried so hard to "enjoy" using a wirelss Mighty Mouse and just get irritated with it every time. It just feels cheap. The only thing offering any sort of "solidness" in the wireless Mighty Mouse is the batteries inside it!

Well not to just target Apple. I have never had a mouse that came with any PC that is any good. I feel that with any computer a person buys they should seriously consider a third party mouse.

However, I must disagree with this statement.
I received a Dell XPS M1530 a couple of days ago and I had paid an extra £10 for a Bluetooth 5 button "Dell" mouse. It's a really nice mouse and I am currently using it with my MBP and love it.

I don't know what to make of mine. Personally I think they're too slow. I have the speed to full on my BT mouse and it's still too slow for me. Got fed up of it and now I'm using a Razer with USB overdrive.

I'll throw it in with my next mac sale and get my money back from it.

From what all I have read in this topic, I have to agree. The mighty mouse is not so mighty. It looks so dated and cheap. I kinda like the ball/nipple but am not sure. It feels odd in my hand and kinda strange in texture. I would love to see an update. I would love to see it wrapped in aluminum to match the current line up. I hate looking at this white thing next to my desk full of aluminum.

Edit: I have to agree the track is sooooo slow. Plus optical is old technology, laser mouse is where it is at. Going from a laser mouse to an optical...... is like going from optical to ball. I want to put my old Logitech MX1000 on the iMac but the charger is gone. I have a really nice wireless mouse from Microsoft...... But its Microsoft.....

Mighty Mouse is absolutely the worst mouse I have ever used in my life.

To anyone who thinks it's great: Would you ever have bought it if it came from another company? That little logo seems to do a lot for it and I have a suspicion that if it was some madcap idea that Logitech or Saitek had fired out then it would have been slated and buried.

And right click works. WORKS.

Sure, it WORKS, but it's ergonomically broken, especially for those who have switched from PC platforms to the Mac. Most traditional 2-button mouse users permanently rest their index finger on the left-click button, even while right-clicking. You can't do that on the Mighty Mouse, because the sensor will interpret every click as a left-click in that scenario. It forces you to lift your index finger away to perform a right-click action. I don't know about anyone else, but if you have grown accustomed to traditional 2-button mice over the past 15 or so years like I have, it's a very hard habit to break.

In fact, with the MM, I found myself turning off the "click zones" and just performing Cmd+Click actions instead (like I'm used to on the laptops) because it feels more intuitive for some bizarre reason.

Let's see....what else? The squeeze buttons are awkward and it feels as though I'm going to break the mouse every time I use it. The glossy, candy white casing makes the mouse slip out of my hands frequently (rubberized grips, Apple!). The scroll ball is a good idea, but poorly executed. It needs to glide more smoothly and feel more robust. And while I'm on that subject, the mouse simply feels cheap. That's unacceptable for a mouse that costs $50.

My $40 Logitech laser mouse is much better. It has a nice, balanced weight to it and I never have to second-guess what it's doing. I've come to the conclusion that Apple's input devices are designed solely to make a fashion statement. I can't imagine how anybody who does professional media work like I do can live with the Mighty Mouse.
